Hi. Cory Edwards here. Great video! Believe it or not, everything in this video is 100% accurate. and I don’t think I have ever said that about one of these videos. I don’t know how you got all the facts so correct, but you did! I guess our story is a lot like the one in the movie… There are many versions of it and only one is really true. Someday, somehow, somewhere… “Hoodwinked” will live again in a brand new adventure. At least that’s my hope. We certainly learned a lot on this one, and there’s 1000 things we would do differently. But the fact that so many people remember it and still love it is crazy and wonderful. And yes, I guess the story is pretty bizarre.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I that I got everything right! Hoodwinked holds a special place in my heart and I also hope we can see this world again in a brand new adventure, that would be so awesome to see.
my mom and i STILL casually reference Hoodwinked! I watched that movie over and over as a child. We have a few baking traditions passed down from my great grandmother, so we occasionally repeat "We're from a long line of bakers!" my mom is particularly fond of the Triple G tattoo lol she hopes to be that active at that age one day. the story was bizarre, but I think that's why it has stuck with me for so long. i still have quotes and images of the movie rent free in my head lol Thank you sm!
Thank you Cory. I just rewatched it for the first time in maybe 16 years and the story really stood the test of time! Also even with the animation choices, a lot of scenes were deeply embedded in my memory. Kudos to a great film!!!
I absolutely LOVE Hoodwinked, and only saw it years later as a teenager, almost adult. It was that good that it sticks in my mind as one of my favorite kids movies of all time to this day. Keep the investigative storytelling going! It's the thing that made re-watching Hoodwinked so much fun. So many details you didn't have context for the first time around that make sense on subsequent watches. I think despite the budget and iffy animation style, the only move that came out around the same time that I enjoyed more than Hoodwinked was Robots, and that was mainly because of Robin Williams being such a doll. Even now if you search "2005 animated kids movies", Hoodwinked is the 2nd result to come up, just after a Tim Burton movie and just before Robots, which is a HUGE accomplishment to be mashed between two giants with nearly infinite budgets. Your movie lives on in so many of our hearts, thank you for following your dream and making it a reality! Hope to see a proper return to it someday.

Totally agree with you. I watched it in theater on a weekend screening. The room had a couple of moms, a bunch of kids and me , alone, all the way in the back. Some of the Jokes (like the Village People squirrels) had me laughing out loud while the kids were in silence and the moms were looking at me like I was insane. I'll never forget that screening. Own it on DVD.
The woodsman character yodeling "SCHNITZEEELLLLLLLLL!!!" Zon slow-mo destroyed me as a kid. This movie had stuck in my mind cuz it was genuinely funny. Cool video, makes me want to revisit it for sure!
Tara Strong and Tom Kenny, arguably one of the most iconic voice actors ever, getting their main roles replaced by B-tier celebrities just for name recognition just goes to show how much disrespect voice acting gets in the film industry.
Back when I was active on social media, I would post a picture of the goat every time it was Friday the 13th with the caption “It’s Friday the 13th, be prepared.”
As crazy as it sounds, I probably wouldn't like this movie as much if it had amazing animation. It's definitely a personal taste kind of thing, but this kind of animation is so mesmerizing to me. (Like, I actually prefer the look of the original Toy Story over the newer Toy Story movies haha.) And I really love that fact about them mimicking stop-motion...absolutely genius. Can't say I cared for the look of the sequel though...certainly doesnt help that that movie is genuinely terrible. Haven't seen Hoodwinked in forever, gotta rewatch it.
This is one of my childhood movies. Really, you gotta forget about the bad animation, cause I’ve rewatched this movie a thousand times, and there’s so many lines I quote with my family to this day. In my head this movie was, and still is highly underrated. Give it a chance.
the animation is a big bonus! Imagine if it had Robots quality animation, it would be compared even harder to other films and probably not hold up with it's truly unique humor. The animation it has invites the viewer to embrace absurdity and lets the humor shine.
Hoodwinked is the type of great storytelling I grew up with in the 80’s and 90’s. The quality is extremely good because they worked with what was available to them and made it work in their favor. Personally I love Hoodwinked even more then Shrek and others similar with bigger productions. The only one that comes close with both being only a couple of years of their release dates is Coraline and that was even shunned for awhile until it was finally noticed.
No other animated film has a premise similar to this (a criminal investigation where everyone is interviewed into the present moment to solve the climax in the next 20 minutes.).
I'm not entirely certain if that's true. This phenomenon is named the rashomon effect after the film rashomon, and there are many other films based around this plot structure. There are many anime that have a story arc based around the rashomon effect. There's also works with a similar plotline that aren't an exact rashomon effect, for example the play an inspector calls.
my family was obsessed with this movie. dad's own birthday became a watch party for it. i loved Shrek 1-3, i loved Madagascar, i loved Robots....but Hoodwinked will always be right there in the top 5 for me.
The grandma being super extreme and a badass was always super funny to me. This movie is a gem, I don’t know if I would have liked it as much with 100 million dollar animations either. Thing like the way the lumberjacks arms moved has a special charm too it.
This movie has existed vaguely in my memory for 18 years then recently that damn goat going “Did I?” was featured in a few memes and suddenly it’s back.
Hoodwinked was an excellent midday Saturday popcorn flick. I have fond memories of knocking out chores with the old SciFi Saturday movies on, in the background. Hoodwinked is definitely one of those movies my folks and I would gladly watch on a laundry heavy Saturday, even lazy ones. Hell well still occasionally quote "NOT THE BUNNY!"
I found a copy of both the first and second Hoodwinked on my way home from school on the floor and that is how I discovered this gem! I still have those DVDs!
I remember being very confused as a kid when I saw my mom pick up a DVD that looked like THAT (especially as my mom has high standards for media) but was super pleasantly surprised the whole way through. Definitely a “don’t judge a book (DVD) by its cover” moment.
I'm glad this video wasn't longer than it needed to be, thanks for making an interesting video about an interesting subject without turning it into an hour long video essay.
Me and my brother and my husband constantly make jokes about the goat singing "Be prepared" especially the line "ive got horns to hold my other horns" its just so random and funny and i have great memories of being little with my brother and rolling on the floor with laughter at this film.
I’ve always loved this movie since I first saw it as a kid. When I’ve gotten friends to watch it recently for the first time I always tell them to watch it with a mindset like you’re watching a let’s play of an old N64 or PS1 game. Yeah the animation may not be the best, but it’s so easy to loose yourself in the story that you can almost forget about the graphic quality
My ex wife's Grandpa was the garbage driver for Patrick Warburton. I remember when I first watched it I loved it, the Schneizel guy cracked me up because it was clearly inspired by the many inbetween segments on Ren and Stimpy.
Saying Hoodwinked was terrible because of its animation quality is like saying It's A Wonderful Life was awful because it's not in colour. The story is what matters the most, and it makes it more unique anyway. I love this movie and know it all by heart. "The criminal you were looking for can not be found at the bottom of the mountain. He resides at the top, in a cave fortress where my companions are trying to detain him."
My brother I sincerely thank you, I watched doogal when I was like 9 an loved it. I could not remember the name for at least a decade until I stumbled upon this video, you’ve made my week. God bless you
My brother and I loved Hoodwinked as kids. And although the animation isn't pretty, it still has it's own style and charm that works really well with the tone of the movie.
The more you watch it the more it kind of shines in an endearing way for what it was. I wouldn't say the movie was actually bad so to speak despite a lot of criticism, I'd say rather it was just a different departure from the usual making it unique in It's own way of tackling animation.
My favorite part as a kid was Granny snowboarding down that mountain. I told my mom to replay that part the first time i saw it from how crazy that was
Story being told through 4 narrators with a twist, in a kids movie from america? That's unique! I think it striked good balance of how many "jokes" are there, and how they are funny and edgy rather than cheesy they are (grandma being a thrill hunter, hood kickin wolf's ass with karate, taxis in forest and more live rent free in my mind)
I ADORED hoodwinked too as a kid and saw it months before the first movie. I watched it one day from a dvd rental. Then I loved it so much I restarted it and immediately rewatched it again. Then I convinced my dad to come watch with me 😂 even as a kid I was curious why the animation was so different on the first movie. Great video! I’d recommend changing the character that’s on the thumbnail. I’ve seen hoodwinked one atleast 10 times and I didn’t recognise that character. I almost skipped the video because I thought it was a random animation I’ve not heard of before. I had to relook at the title a few times to confirm I knew and loved the movie haha
I didn't see or even hear about this movie until this year. I'm 40 years old. My friend said he had really fond memories of seeing it as a kid, and his praise was so effusive that I decided to give it a watch. At first the animation quality made me think it was going to be a real stinker and thought my friend only liked it because he'd seen it as a kid, but I'm glad I gave it a chance: Even with zero nostalgia factor (since I hadn't even heard about it until this year), I still found it to be a worthwhile, entertaining watch, clever and funny and engaging. And once I got into the movie, I think the weird animation actually contributed to the film's amusement factor.
I don't remember the movie that much but it is tied to a good memory. I was moving into a new apartment but the moving truck wasn't going to be there til the next day, so me and one of my friends stayed the night in the empty apartment with nothing but what we brought over in our cars, which included my TV, game systems, a couple of lawn chairs, and this movie (which I'd rented right before I moved). so we ended up getting a pizza and a few bottles of cheap wine and watched this movie. it was a good time.
I've seen this movie exactly once - YEARS ago - and I still sing parts of the schnitzel song and say "I was prepared!" Still refer to things as caffeinated squirrels, too.
Great movie and the unique “cheap” animation is part of it’s charm. My family watched this in the theaters and were highly entertained/surprised by how good it was!
Chicken little was amazingly expensive to animate and render. They even created entirely new computer graphics systems to make the feathers look more realistic. Just the team of software engineers working on their animation and rendering tools, for that one project, probably cost a couple million dollars. Source: I know some of those people, it was a huge project in Disney's Feature Animation department.
I remember this movie and loved it when I was a kid. Everyone in my school would talk about how funny and good it was. I watched it years later and I still in joy it, hell I recommend it to people still whenever it pops up on a stream service
personally the janky animation style made the movie funnier to me, it felt like the sheer weirdness and the way movement was animated just makes the movie feel even more like a fantastical fever dream
The sequel has better animation, as far I can see, it´s a shame that it didn´t have a better story. Anyway, I prefer Hoodwinked! (a movie made with creativity) over the terrible "FoodFight", if you know what I mean...
Even after all these years, the schnitzel song will randomly pop in my head and consume my thoughts until I rewatch that scene 1000 times. Such an underrated movie. Great video! 👏🏻
This is such an underrated gem. The voice acting, story, and comedy are pure gold. I’d say it could have done without the musical numbers, I usually skip those. Was fun hearing a bit of the back story. Thanks for making the video!
Did you just blow up one of my favorite obscure childrens movies, how dare you!!! I am referencing the fact that I actually have watched the a wobots christmas many times since I was very small, I forgot it but found it this is crazy I was here WOOOOHOO!
One of my favorite movies ever growing up. It *really* surprised me when I first watched it as a kid, and it did it *again* as an adult. I think it's the *best* example of don't judge an.... animation? By its cover.
I feel like the stopmotion look would have worked better if the characters were stylised to look like they were stopmotion figures? Or puppets, kind of the The Book of Life did?
Yeah, and with more competent and trustworthy staff, as well as getting the Edwards brothers on board with the idea, it could potentially save the franchise.
One of my favorite movies. Back when Netflix gave out free months, I would watch this movie basically on repeat, since there really wasn't much else on the service that I cared about. Love that goat.
My sisters and I rented this on DVD so many times our parents should have just bought it 😂 I'll have to rewatch it. I've always wondered how such a low budget (seeming) film had such a big audience and stars.
I absolutely loved this movie when I first saw it. Funny enough I never realized the janky animation until this video. I just thought it was an artistic choice so I never gave it a second thought. I loved the story and focused on that instead. I haven't watched it in many, many years but I sure will now. I will have to bust out the old DVD collection. Thanks for the behind the scenes. Great video.
As someone who really does enjoy this movie a lot... Yeah, the animation is still kinda hard to get past. Some characters are fine, I really dig the Wolf's design, limitations or not, but the lumberjack and those little goblin children will haunt my nightmares. Really solid movie though lol
I remember my utter confusion over this movie, like I was missing something else before I could watch it. But without fail I’d watch it beginning to end every single time. Surprisingly, I love the second movie too.
I remember renting that movie with my girlfriend back when renting movies was a thing… and being absolutely blown away by the ingenious and hilarious plot. I need to see it again now
I've always loved this movie with it's catchy songs and humor including that infuriating woodpecker that says "You're next!" Learning that it was animated in my country is the cherry on top! I don't know how many times we've rewatched this but I am entertained every time. Come on the songs are soo good "Be Prepared", "Here's a Story I hope you'll like" and the very on the nose "Red is blue" 😂. Love it!
I absolutly love this movie! The songs and lines are like a ketchy tune and came back in my head surprisingly regular xD - Love it! It's a part of my childhood (:

Some of the Jokes (like the Village People squirrels) had me laughing out loud while the kids were in silence and the moms were looking at me like I was insane. I'll never forget that screening. Own it on DVD.
The woodsman character yodeling "SCHNITZEEELLLLLLLLL!!!" Zon slow-mo destroyed me as a kid. This movie had stuck in my mind cuz it was genuinely funny. Cool video, makes me want to revisit it for sure!
Breakfast, lunch and dinner too.
Schnitzel me and schnitzel you!
This movie is an absolute GEM, such a shame it has been sort of forgotten
This movie holds space in my head, never trust a bunny

I'd love to see a hoodwinked re-animated project. That could be one cool way to reimagine the visuals while keeping the awesome script and voices
A complete stop motion production from Laika would be absolutely off the wall, no need to re-record any of the amazing voice cast.
Not counting the shnitchel kids, I think it looks good enough.
lol the one kid that shoves the schnitzel stick up his nose lives rent free in my head… and I’ve tried to evict it a couple times😂
he wasted his dinner :(
shnitzel is flippin awesome tho
Tara Strong and Tom Kenny, arguably one of the most iconic voice actors ever, getting their main roles replaced by B-tier celebrities just for name recognition just goes to show how much disrespect voice acting gets in the film industry.
I agree 100% but calling them b tier celebrities isn’t really accurate lmao these are still household names

I was always told that this movie flopped but making over 10 times its budget isn't bad.
And Boingo taking the piss out of Keith is the funniest.
The best part was when the squirrel slammed back the coffee.
That scene lives rent free in my head.
after he takes off there is even a sonic boom.
Oh God yes! For YEARS after I first saw it, that little moment made me laugh so hard my face would hurt and i'd need to take a moment to breathe.
I always think about the line “we can’t arrest someone just for being creepy”
my family was obsessed with this movie. dad's own birthday became a watch party for it. i loved Shrek 1-3, i loved Madagascar, i loved Robots....but Hoodwinked will always be right there in the top 5 for me.
The minecart scene has lived rent free in my head since this movie came out
"FIlm producer and future convicted sex offender" is such a king line.
why? it is just a simple statement of fact, not dramatized or theatric.
@@sinisterthoughts2896 I don't see how that should stop it from being enjoyed
Hoodwinked was an excellent midday Saturday popcorn flick.
I have fond memories of knocking out chores with the old SciFi Saturday movies on, in the background. Hoodwinked is definitely one of those movies my folks and I would gladly watch on a laundry heavy Saturday, even lazy ones. Hell well still occasionally quote "NOT THE BUNNY!"
The fact that hoodwinked had 8million for budget and still ended up being that charming is incredible to be honest.
"I was prepared" is a scene I will never get out of my head. I quote it more regularly than I honestly should.
God bless you
I never hated the animation. It's unique. The story is fantastic. Never heard people hung up on the animation til recently.
Bro the schnitzel song! This movie was different man. Loved it. I put my little brothers and step sisters onto this when they were little
My brother and I loved Hoodwinked as kids. And although the animation isn't pretty, it still has it's own style and charm that works really well with the tone of the movie.
The terrible animation adds to it I think. It’s not a normal animated movie and I’m glad they didn’t make it look like one.
The more you watch it the more it kind of shines in an endearing way for what it was. I wouldn't say the movie was actually bad so to speak despite a lot of criticism, I'd say rather it was just a different departure from the usual making it unique in It's own way of tackling animation.
I strangly love the animation. It matches the wacky energy
My favorite part as a kid was Granny snowboarding down that mountain. I told my mom to replay that part the first time i saw it from how crazy that was
10:05 I’m pretty sure the vast majority of the people working in that film were not aware that Harvey Weinstein was that much of a horrible person…
yet
Sure, not like it was an open secret that even family guy made fun of.
@@hiphopguy0to be fair, I would accept a deal from Epstein himself if it got me the chance to distribute my film to millions.
I had to relook at the title a few times to confirm I knew and loved the movie haha
thank you, good idea I'll change that
I didn't see or even hear about this movie until this year.
-"Schniiiiiitzel!!!!!"
*Intense yodeling*
Love this movie.
And every time I hear a loud noise (usually thunder) I have to say “that’s just old man mountain showing us who’s boss”
The goat is the GOAT 😄
Great movie and the unique “cheap” animation is part of it’s charm. My family watched this in the theaters and were highly entertained/surprised by how good it was!
Chicken little cost $150 million?!!?
Yeah that suprised me too
Chicken little was amazingly expensive to animate and render.
3:49 he means Blue Sky
personally the janky animation style made the movie funnier to me, it felt like the sheer weirdness and the way movement was animated just makes the movie feel even more like a fantastical fever dream
The sequel has better animation, as far I can see, it´s a shame that it didn´t have a better story. Anyway, I prefer Hoodwinked! (a movie made with creativity) over the terrible "FoodFight", if you know what I mean...
I’ve never seen this, and now I am really looking forward to watching this tonight. Thanks!
I always liked the animation style, it was different and definitely has that old Rankin Bass feel.
Great breakdown of this film's production, this film really holds a place in my heart
This movie was such a part of my childhood that my family ended up naming their dog pudding pop after one of the big bad wolfs lines!
Did you just blow up one of my favorite obscure childrens movies, how dare you!!! I am referencing the fact that I actually have watched the a wobots christmas many times since I was very small, I forgot it but found it this is crazy I was here WOOOOHOO!
Not Sky Blue Studios. Blue Sky Studios.
Also, Cannes is pronounced “kan” and the name Tara is “TEH-ruh”.
Or puppets, kind of the The Book of Life did?
its cope, they most likely pinched pennies with overworked or inexperienced artists
I think that the whole scene with the singing goat shaped a very large chunk of my sense of humor. I watched this all the time as a kid. I love it.
I was to dumb to realize how ugly this movie was as a kid
I constantly bring up the goat in everyday life. One of my favorite movies as a kid
I'm not the biggest fan of reboots, but man, the money I'd pay to see this film reanimated!
I always thought that the animation added to the comedy, absolutely loved this movie as a kid and still do
Lack of money always creates the best kind of creativity
Thanks for the vid! It’s cool to learn more about what led to one of my favorite childhood movies. Gotta watch it again!
I remember my utter confusion over this movie, like I was missing something else before I could watch it. But without fail I’d watch it beginning to end every single time. Surprisingly, I love the second movie too.
OMG I rewatched this solo many times too! Love everything about this beautifully creepy surreal visual feast!
I remember renting that movie with my girlfriend back when renting movies was a thing… and being absolutely blown away by the ingenious and hilarious plot. I need to see it again now
I've always loved this movie with it's catchy songs and humor including that infuriating woodpecker that says "You're next!"
Learning that it was animated in my country is the cherry on top! I don't know how many times we've rewatched this but I am entertained every time. Come on the songs are soo good "Be Prepared", "Here's a Story I hope you'll like" and the very on the nose "Red is blue" 😂. Love it!
"Dynamitey" is such a classic bro. That and the lumberjack busting into the house will never not make me laugh.
11:10 this is how i found out there was a second movie 😂
“Did I” and “be prepared” have been carved into my brain since I watched this at 6 yrs old
I absolutly love this movie! The songs and lines are like a ketchy tune and came back in my head surprisingly regular xD - Love it! It's a part of my childhood (:
