"Spring Training" - Working On Projects That Lead To Finding More

- Every year it seems that Spring Fever leads to "Spring Training" where we start on our outdoor to-do list and try to teach our young daughters some valuable lessons about growing up in the country and how to work hard to feel a sense of accomplishment.

Neil, I’m glad you got your birdhouses. And, hope they fill up fast. We have a pair of wrens and three pairs of bluebirds already. I can hardly wait for the onslaught of insect pests to feed their broods!
Thanks for the shoutout… your compliments were far above the effort that I put into the houses.
It looks like I’ll be doing container gardening this year. I took your advice and talked to our MU Ag Department about the Nematodes. They recommended that I plant marigolds and mustard this spring. Then, about the end of July, cut off all of the blossoms and till it in. Covering it with clear plastic in the hot August sun should cook them out if the soil. To make sure they are gone, they recommend deep tilling several times in early fall. Then, planting an Annual Rye cover crop to jump start it the next spring.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I owe you bud!!!
Thanks again! We are anxiously awaiting new tenants to occupy their homes :)
So sorry to hear that you have to take a break from your normal garden routines to fight the darn nematodes. That is a bummer but I'm glad you've got a plan of attack. Hopefully the shutdown this season will yield better yields for years to come.
Thanks for being such a good friend the channel!
What a great idea @Sassafras Valley! Have a great Easter.
@@PurpleCollarLife you’re welcome. Have a blessed Easter.
@@digdrivediy I have my fingers crossed. Thanx Neil.
Good thing you saved the Easter Bunny from that bad old putty tat ! 😂
He had a lucky morning!
The cat chasing the bunny was my favorite part. He really stole this episode.
Rewatched! The GOAT of UA-cam, the McGyver for all things displaying his skills! Love this content!
Thanks for posting a video today.
You bet! Thanks for tuning in John!
George caught the Easter Bunny! Funny how the Miracle Grow even included a free worm, I think that seals the deal! The birdhouses are very nice looking. I'm sure the wrens will love their new homes. Always great when you include the family in your projects. Thanks for sharing, if I'm lucky, I'll see you in the next one!
Great video, happy Easter, fun family projects, enjoyed it sir.
These young ladies will be able to do more than most young men aka husbands when its time to start their own Spring training!
Great Video the bunny getting chased by the cat was great looked like an old looney toons cartoon
The girls are getting big!
Another great video Neil. Just wanted to mention something to your viewers about catching little baby Easter bunnies. Do not give them a bath with dish soap! I think you might remember how that turns out! Dad
Awesome. Happy Easter.
Neil, you should teach the girls to wear safety glasses when using power tools.
True. They have some.
Uh oh, I messed up. I let my wife watch this with me. It looks like we will be acquiring some of those planter boxes. Lol, thanks buddy!
Ha! Be sure to grab some wheels too 😊
By the looks of the grass in the background, I think I live in the last place in this hemisphere to see the arrival of spring. Happy Easter!
Great video. I laughed out loud with the clip at the end - the light is still broken. Your yard is awesome. Would love to see the spring training on how you have such a green lawn. Happy Easter to you and family!
It is very nice to see you instill values and hard work in your girls. You're a good man Neil and even more so, a good husband and father. Keep up the good works 😁👍
I liked the way you filled that abnormality at the threshold with a jigsaw cut on the ramp. And the casters are brilliant. Good job neighbor.
Excellent Sunday morning video. Good job on the one handed bunny snag.
Happy Easter
Aw, poor baby bun bun. So cute! Potentially problematic but cute nonetheless.
Love the "Spring Trainings" with the twins!
The addition of the casters was brilliant! That there was some fantastic craftsmanship and problem solving to get the job done and done well. Great job, Neil!!!
Beautiful ramp installation for the block house! I'm glad you remembered the moisture barrier. Pretty ingenious!
@Sassafras Valley, the bird houses are gorgeous!!! Well done!
I loved the look you received when you said "You have to run it to get it back out." at 11:11 !!! It's like she was saying, "I know, Dad!" 🤣
Esther the Easter Bunny! My heart has been officially melted by the girls!
HAPPY EASTER KOCH FAMILY!!! 🐇🐇🐇🐇🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🤗🤗😘😘😘😘
See y'all in the next one 🥰🥰🤗🤗😘😘
P.S. I'm not a bit surprised that you forgot to fix the light. I would have done the same thing also. Oops
Have a happy Easter keep up your videos love watching them
Thank you! Will do!
Rabbits > Cats. When I kept a rabbit he had an outside hutch (hay allergies) but he was the protector of the yard. He would thump on the floor and scare the crap out of whatever was coming to investigate. Years later we figured out why the deer never bothered our plants - they were scared of him.
Cats on the other hand are a holes - they know when you're allergic to them and make sure to give that person extra attention - I have had people warn me their cats are anti social and hate people only to end up with a cat on my lap or shoulder 30 mins later.
I hope you're doing well - and thanks for the info on those containers. I've been thinking of putting in some in ground beds but I might just get them instead. The only issue I see is they look like they're too small for corn :( Oh well. Great video Neil!
This video is phenomenal! McGyxer at his best!
Great job love your videos thank you
Impressive variety of tools and equipment! You can fix anything and not have to go to the store!
You are the Bob Ross of vlogs!
I'll take that!!! 😋
Happy Easter to the Koch Family. You all are simply AWESOME !
GOOD MORNING NEIL & HAPPY EASTER
Enjoy your videos! Happy Easter 🐇🐣!
Always great to see your girls hope they have a great Easter
It’s funny how one small seemingly simple project bleeds into A LOT more projects of increasing difficulty and expense haha
Another great video Neil ! Happy Easter 🙏🏻✝️
Such great pictures of your family Neil. Happy Easter!
I really don t have much to say but that George is one good actor. Happy Resurrection day
Hello👋 from the Netherlands🇳🇱 Koch Family 👨👩👧👧.

nice spring projects and update .
thanks for the video Neil , Mrs.Koch and the kids .
Sincerely Hollandduck 🇳🇱🦆
Just a beautiful family you have, and a wonderful piece of property for them to enjoy, and explore, all the best to ya.
Happy Easter!
Video was great. Glad to see the girls helping. 😊
Great video! Always a pleasure to spend some time for watching your videos! Have a great spring!
Thank you very much!
Good to see you Sassafras Valley. I first saw you on Captain Kleaman's channel.
Nice bird houses. How do you determine what size hole to make for the opening? I'll go and see your video. 👍 Happy Easter.
Happy Easter Neil and family.
God bless 🙏🙏🙏
Hello Neil, I wish you and your family a happy Easter . Nice modifications on the planterboxes. The birds are going to have a nice new home in those birdhouses . Luckily you did find out where the little easterbunny lives, it wil be happy to see her mom back . Greetings from 🇧🇪 .
You are like me. I get everybody else's projects done, except mine. But the kids come first. Y'all do a great job teaching them about so many things. They will do well in life. Happy Easter!!
Great video Neil...always love seeing you take the time to do things with your family
The project lists seem to grow more than they shrink around my place. It does feel good when you have other projects pop up and you can knock them out in short order like yours! Take care!
Happy Easter, Neil and family! Love it how you get the girls involved in everything. You have a beautiful family. One thing I that I thought of when you were gluing the planter box. It wouldn't have helped in this case but if you were gluing a crack like that in wood, you can use compressed air to force the glue deep into the crack without having to open it up so wide that it cracks further. Hope this helps some day. Thanks for the video!
-mike
Great content as usual
Much appreciated
Happy Easter to you all. Nice video
I'm curious if you get enough sunlight for a solar floodlight around that building with the missing light, Neil. Nice job on the garden beds and the handy ramp. Happy Easter to you all.
Happy Easter from our family to yours! It’s funny how a small project turns into a few others being completed along the way you didn’t know about. I’m sure the girls will love the birds renting those nice bird houses! Take care!
The Sunday tradition continues. No tractor updates? Oh well, it's still interesting. My unsolicited comment for today is one of the things we miss the most since moving south is the Menards stores. They're not perfect but they sure beat the other big box stores. Don't be too hard on them. With every trip back north, we make it a point to visit their stores.
Happy Easter.
Thanks for tuning in Joe! We love Menards too and visit nearly weekly it seems. Mostly just teasing my wife about that is all. 😁
Happy Easter to your family from ours! As usual your content made me smile 😃
Happy Easter Day to u n ur family good job
I enjoy getting out from being cooped up all winter. Not a fan of the storms that come with it! Great video and Happy Easter!
Thanks so much Doug! Sure feels good out there when you get the first T-shirt day like today is looking to be! Appreciate you watching and Happy Easter!
I like this style of video best. Happy Easter.🐣
Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved the string of projects! I think everyone's had days like that, including multiple trips to the same store. I do miss Menards out here on the east coast. There are several smaller regional chains that are similar, but not quite the same.
Also, not to make more projects, but you'll want to keep George away from those lovely birdhouses if possible. If they're close enough to the ground for the girls to reach, they're close enough for him to jump up and have a snack.
Happy Easter 🐣 from Jokkmokk. We call this season spring-winter, it’s between the winter-winter and spring. It’s considered the best time of the year by most people living here because at night it’s often freezing and 40-50 Fahrenheit at daytime.
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing and Happy Easter!
Amazing little family you have mate .. 👍
Awesome video!
Thanks Robert!
Next year, just hang a photo of a garden ;)
There’s always another project to do in order to finish the project you just started! It’s a law of nature!😂
Good stuff! Next year go bug on the garden. Just plant enough for you and the critters. Happy Easter!
Great video!
Thanks Luke.
Great video as always!
Dude - nice ramp!!!!
Happy Easter.
Great video. Happy Easter!
We got one of those planters from the same brand from Costco. Ours had wheels on it, plus it's a little bigger and has metal frame and fake wood slats. So far, it's lasted a year. But the wheels have already bent due to the weight. We haven't moved it that much at all as well. You may want to consider beefing up the support for the wheels. You may not have that problem since yours seems a little smaller. Ours is about 4 ft wide.
Great thank you love your videos
You are so welcome
awesome video Neil
I want purple martins !
Just a quick tip - you seem like quite a handyman and I know you can make this work. If ever you need to buy casters, such as the wheels on your planters, you can buy a moving dolly from Harbor Freight I believe the smallest is 12x16 - and it comes with 4 casters on it - for 9.99 - I was surprised myself when I needed to buy wheels for a toolbox and the casters alone were 12.99 each.
Just have to drill out the rivets and substitute bolts where the holes were. Menards (I checked) sells the same moving dollies for 12.99
Our Lord Jesus Christ has risen, Happy Easter! Have you thought about putting up some solar led lights? My brother bought some for his property, they are very bright and were inexpensive.
Ya should’ve just put concrete in their so u don’t have to change it out when it rots out on ya and would of been quicker just a suggestion ya might want to fix the corner of the block house it looks like it is coming apart before it gets to bad on ya
Looks like some of the blocks on your block building might need some repairs.
if it aint broke, put wheels on it - greg
Nasty locking cracking in that block house at 9:03 in the video buddy?
Oh yeah. We have repaired the cracks several times in the 23 years of living here. The foundation is sinking. Don't know what to do about it unfortunately.
@@digdrivediy Perhaps you need to look at underpinning as we call it in UK. Dig out under the foundation in short sections and pour in concrete. when that has set hard, dig out the adjacent section and repeat. Good Luck
Cmon George lol
I spied a bobcat on the heavy equipment trailer behind the dump truck, is that a new Dig Drive DIY toy or just borrowed from a friend?
Hey Neil, you seem like someone who would grow a garden and keep/preserve a lot of it, so I was wondering why you decided to downsize over the years.... got to be too much to do, don't have the room to store it or decided it's just easier for you guys to get what you want at the store or farmers market...? We recently moved out to our dream property and are planning a garden and am just looking for any wisdom from more experienced folks like yourself. Thanks.
could you see the Richmond smoke from your house?
late May, early April? Must be different out your way! thanks anyway
Oh did I say that??? Sometimes I confuse myself and mix up March and May :)
Poor bunny
Wind him up, turn him loose, and let him go.
You have a million dollar shop and you know how to use it. Stop with the plastic China planters. Those probably won't last more than a season. I made some using throw-away untreated pine wood pallets. Free and easy. No plastic chemicals.
Neil, not criticism, but cats are an invasive non native species, and need to be kept indoors. Millions of animals are hurt and or killed by them, and this is not a natural balance. Being a good steward of our pets also means keeping them away from owls, eagles, and hawks, and mean spirited humans who hate them. Unlike cattle and horses, cats don't usually understand limits, so we have to limit their roaming.
I have 3 cats, and 9 weeks ago, I lost my orange tabby do to veterinarian negligence, so I encourage you to do as I have done and keep your cats inside. I know you are in the country, but that won't stop birds of prey from looking for lunch.
All my cats are rescued from the streets.
Happy Easter
Thanks Marilyn!
Happy Easter!
