- In this video I take a deep dive into solving my P0087 code that ended up being my CP3 Fuel Pump Regulator failing. There are no doubt, many different culprits for why a P0087 code could come up on your truck but in my particular case in my Ram 3500 2012 DRW ST truck, this was my result.

More people should do videos like this, symptoms, code number, and correction of the problem. Great job! Thanks for sharing your experience on this issue!
Thank you for your information. I have searched for this information for a whole year .
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent Video,
You Really Explained the loosing power issues as is.
That's Exactly the Symptoms on My 2011 Benz SPRINTER v6.
I will definitely get a diesel mechanic to watch your video before touching my Van.
Thanks....I Appreciate you.
Glad you got it figured out .
Great advice and thanks for sharing.
Excellent detailed video, my friend. 👍🏼 There is no doubt a lot of people are going to find this video very helpful someday.
Thanks brother! I definitely hope so!
Great explanation on how to do this fix.
Great Job! Generally when a item has an o-ring for a seal, the bolts don't need to be extremely tight...
I changed that regulator on my 2018 3500 RAM. The check engine turned off and truck is running well, have power. Thank you so much for it.
But still have unstable RPM and a bit of engine shake. 400k working miles. 3 cars hauler.
AN INJECTOR ISSUE MOST LIKELY
Any update on your issue?
I never doubted that you would figure this out and fix it. Great Job!!! Thanks
Thanks my friend!
after watching this I hope that this is the part that's wrong with my truck I've changed everything but the FCA
A that gear pump plate hose out on those too it's easy to take off and that fca you replaced you know you can use the Duramax one too and you gain a lil bit of horses out of it to
I'm curious, have you been using any fuel additives, or have you avoided them? If you have used them, what have you been using? I'm new to your channel, so I'm not fully aware of your history... yet.
Visual representation of where the piece is would be helpful. I know you have it in your other video I for this video if you could add in clips of your other video would be good.
Big fan of your channel. Has helped me so much with maintenance on my Cummins. I also am periodically getting the P0087 code but the only time it comes on is when my truck drops a gear to climb a grade or if I’m pulling out of a rest area and trying to gain speed, it will stutter a few times and lose power then I ease off then it will regain power and back to normal. Do you think that may be a lift pump issue rather than a actuator?
Hey Daniel ,I have a freightliner M2 106 with a Cummins isb 6.7 ,and right know the truck doesn't shutoff with the keys in the iginition ,i need unplug the battery ,did you think this pump regulator would be the problem ? No check engine on .Thanks.
Hi, I have shaky idle and also over 3000rpm the car goes into limp mode. Showing P0087. I’ve changed the filter and that hasn’t helped. Would it be worth changing the regulator for the sake of £45 ($60).
Maybe you can help me. Truck runs and idles fine. I got a P0087 alarm. Randomly comes on. I replaced the lift pump my next option is this. Do you think this may be my problem? It only seems to happen when pulling 10k fifth wheel at grades. No power loss that I notice.
Hey Daniel. I just started hauling RVs. My CEL came on Monday night when I got to Elkhart for orientation. I did some research and went with filters first. I got them replaced and the truck ran great again....for two days. I completed orientation and got my first run. 14 miles from my destination, the truck shuddered at 60mph and the light came back on. Same code again. So, now I guess I am going to make my drop in the morning and then start hunting the part and tools.
Hey buddy what was the issue
@@xaviertutt6252 Mine ended up being the lift pump in the tank. Instead of replacing it, I upgraded to an aftermarket lift pump made by AirDog. It has been a dream.
@@notaflightmedic Was it a very expensive fix? I just got the code the today. The truck felt like it was surging (like when you haul a tanker) and losing power going up hills. Was totally fine before this happened. I just changed my air filter last week and got oil and both fuel filters changed the week before. I'm down to about 50% on all 3 filters (oil & both fuel). Truck has just under 229K miles on it and mine is a 2014. Got it late Jan 2020.
@@tonyacrawford8656 My aftermarket lift pump was about $800, I believe. Apparently, the Rams have issues with this once the tank gets to about 2/3 of a fuel tank.
@@notaflightmedic Did you fix it yourself or have someone else fix it? Was that your total cost?? I have an aux fuel tank that feeds my 32 gal tank. This is gonna sound stupid,, but when they have to drain the small tank to replace it and if so, can that fuel be reused? 32 gals of diesel is a lot of fuel to lose.
Am having the same issue
What is the link to the torx T25?
Numero uno. Like that matters😂😂.
Nailed it! 😂😎
Which scanner tool do you use for your Ram 🐏
Great video
I made a video about it - Blue Driver
@@HighMileageHelper try to look for it couldn’t find the video
So you mentioned two fuel filters. I can only see one on my truck and I have looked everywhere I can think and everywhere the 2013's and above have it. Someone told me the first fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. I have almost the exact same truck as you except it's the Laramie. Do you know if the first fuel filter is inside the fuel tank or can you give any other guidance? Thanks for what you've done!
Is two filters from 2016 and up
Thanks for your info its very helpful. my problem is i have a 2008 check engine light code is p1011 i change fuel filter. light is still on.. seeing what you found i think im going to try. Fuel pump Regulator the Truck is not running rough or ideling bad at all thanks what do you think. Truck have only 83000 miles.
sorry i forgot dodge 2008 3500 6.7.thanks once again.
My 2018 Cummins is doing the same code and it won’t drive no more than 30 miles.
What about the p0089?
Don't know what RAM does but on my Mercedes om648 this kind of low fuel pressure code (2017 and 2047) the action, per Mercedes, is "Engine Off". So, yeah, not good. A note to anyone running across this: disconnecting the "Regulator" (Mercedes refers to it as "Fuel Quantity Adjuster" [or such]) should put it in a default full open state which means full fueling. I took advantage of this behavior by disconnecting and running an HPFP test on a diagnostic tool (Foxwell NT510 elite - no clue what this test actually does- if someone could tell me I'd very much appreciate it!) and it would trigger these codes (and kill the engine). One should NOT run any significant amount of time with this "regulator" disconnected, just for testing. Anyway, with Daniel's videos I'm fairly certain now that MY issue is my HPFP (a CP3): new injectors
Ever had a p0088?
