    I've been chasing issues on my fuel system for ages, and I feel like an absolute idiot because I am a gm diesel tech and sence my truck never threw a p0087 code I never found that buliten. I've replaced my cp3 fuel filter housing all soft lines including the line by the transmission and never thought to look here but this fix got me one step closer my final issue is my fuel pressure relief valve. And hopefully she will be running I'm been running around like a chicken with its head cut off and this got me one step closer.

    I have a 2002 single cab dually LB7 ZF6 4×4 . I have 430,000 miles. I've replaced injectors, alternator, water pump and head gaskets with studs. I just spent $2,000 for a new dual disc clutch. 6 months ago almost 3,000 on a completely new kryptonite front end. Still much cheaper than a new truck.

    Mines an 02 with 288k on it. I live in Fl and it gets hot. Mine was throwing the p0087 occasionally when it was hot and I had just run steady around 70-75mph and would stop at a light or such. On take off it would throw the code and limp.
    It started happening more and more frequently so I had to find it.
    Unfortunately for me it was the CP3 pump.
    A couple days and a lot of labor later ( and $$$) and it hasn’t done it since. Now, with this info I’ll know where to look should it do it again in the future.
    Appreciate it.

    Everything you said and did is really good info , very much appreciated, if you want to go one step further , install fuel tank sump and lift pump and new quality hose to actually pressurize the supply line , and clean your cooler and with filtration from lift pump system you can eliminate the factory filter

      Dude, good call. I did do the ported fitting a while back, I still have one for the passenger rail, but it's a lot more work to do that one. I've read you don't get much doing the passenger side, so I haven't tackled it. The throttle response was the most noticeable for me.

    Thanks for the info, my 06 LBZ just did this to me in the heat pulling my 34ft RV through the mountains in Central WA. It's only got 245k miles on it and I was worried it was my injector pump or injectors but I'll definitely look at the lines before I take it to a mechanic...I can't wait for your update after your last load to see if it was indeed your issue. Great work man.

      A couple days after that video, my truck wouldn't start one morning. I had a bad fuel filter housing that was loosing prime. That can also cause a P0087. Since the fuel line and the filter housing I have not had a single code. Hope that helps buddy.

    I installed a race plug, lift pump setup, extra fuel cooler with a fan, cooler on the front, and a fan on the factory cooler, thinking it would help keep fuel cooler and keep viscosity up, seemed ok til the other day, still doing it geezz what s pain, only 445k miles too

      Yours is just broken in😎. I've done a ton of research since this video and have found that these injectors are really only good for about 160-200k max. After that, they start returning too much fuel. I just recently bit the bullet and installed new injectors.

    FASS or Air Dog lift pump, I know there pricy. I've put a FASS 165 GPH, I've been told a lift pump is a must for a duramax to save your MP3 pump. That way your fuel is pressurized from you tank to your pump. And have a built in water separator filter a long with a regular fuel filter, and people have remove the 3rd filter at the block to save on the cost of that filter.

      I've got a LMM myself, I've HSP pipes on everything except the the cold side up pipe, Y bridge. So my egr system is still intact, I want to delete it but I'm reluctant to do so.

    • @heldtheflashlightfordad6728
      @heldtheflashlightfordad6728  2 роки тому

      @Charles Swearengin Mines still all there too. The Y bridge is kind of a pain to get too and once you change the cold side, you almost have to change the Y bridge, or it'll come loose. I'm mostly worried about the egr cooler leaking, but I've got 203,000 miles on it and never had an issue. The LMM's have a better egr cooler than the LBZ's had so that's a plus. I'm gonna leave it all until there's an issue. My truck runs good

      Good question, but no. Your truck will fire right up. I did use a small hack saw on the fitting that goes down next to the motor. It's really tight and I didn't want to nick anything important. Overall real easy modification.

    I had the P0087 several times. Changed fuel filters to only last 1K-2.5K miles. Race plug did not solve it either so I put the FRPV back in. I’m thinking the worst!
    I found the two fuel lines near the transmission twisted; replaced them. The lines near the engine also had a slight kink, I did not replace the yet. Trying to find the quick connect fittings.

    • @heldtheflashlightfordad6728
      @heldtheflashlightfordad6728  2 роки тому +1

      May have been a coincidence, but my fuel filter housing went out shorty after I posted this. Truck wouldn't start, so I installed a new housing. I've read that can also cause a P0087. It's a $100 part and takes about 45 minutes to install. Might be worth a try. My truck has been trouble free as of lately. Good luck to you buddy.

      @@heldtheflashlightfordad6728how do you know your fuel filter housing went out? Was it leaking or sucking air?

    • @heldtheflashlightfordad6728
      @heldtheflashlightfordad6728  Рік тому

      @Altruisticgerms one morning, my truck would just crank over and wouldn't start. I opened the hood and pumped the primer on the housing, and the truck fired right up. It's a pretty easy part to replace, and it's pretty common on higher mileage trucks. Mine was at about 190k miles at the time. The part is only about $100.

      If that happens again, buy the o-ring kit for it. Takes about an hour to change them start to finish. The kit is about $20 from XDP Diesel or Merchant Automotive. Merchant also has one of the best prices on Allison spin on transmission filters too.

      Mine generally sit between 175 and 190 just cruising old man style. If I'm feeling frisky and let them ponies free I see 200-210 easy. I've gotten it up to 221 this summer pulling a decent load against the wind, had the bed full, entire family and the A/C blasting. She was giving me all she had that day. Lol
      I do drain and refill the pan every 25k. Fluid is always nice and clean.

      Crack open the bleeder screw on top of your fuel filter housing, pump the primer until fuel spills out, tighten the bleeder screw and then pump the primer again until it is rock hard. It'll start after that. Be careful not to over tighten the plastic bleeder screw, it is easy to break.

      I'm guessing I have another problem just not sure what it could be
      I tried what you said but the fuel never spilled out after more then enough pumps
      At the beginning bubbles came out similar to when you change the fuel filter but diesel never spilled out
      The housing was replaced about 5000 miles ago and the fuel filter about 800 miles ago

    • @heldtheflashlightfordad6728
      @heldtheflashlightfordad6728  2 роки тому

      @@omarrodriguez193 I know this is a stupid question, but are you sure there's enough fuel in the tank? I would try to crank the engine for 5 seconds or so and then pump the primer again. If the truck was running before you changed those lines then she should fire back up.

      @omarrodriguez193 2 роки тому

      According to the fuel gage when I turn the key to the on position,there's a little under a quarter
      My only guess is maybe the fuel housing is faulty because I can pump and pump bur ot won't stiffen up, but that wouldn't explain why it worked before hand and not after
