    I love that i found your channel since i am a RC enthusiast on a budget. I was searching around for cheaper alternative than the mini Z being a bit expensive for my range. i suddenly stumbled upon a Firelap product called the IW05 and it looks like it has more chance of modifying it.
    Can you review the Firelap IW05 mini Z? i would like to know your oppinion about it before a take my chances.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  6 років тому

      It might take a while until I can buy the IW05 but as far as I talked to someone who has it. It's still not worth the price because of poor electronics and plastic bushings. The best price/performance ratio right now is still WLtoys K989 and for budget hi-performance is Mini-Q Q7. Or if you want to build and choose brushless motor yourself Atomic AMZ is a good place to start since the chassis is about 65USD (exclude shipping) and you could get it up and running for about 180 USD with decent electronics and a decent radio.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  6 років тому +1

      Entry level in this scale are mostly RTR so you won't have to build it.
      Actually Mini-Q starter kit or plastic chassis will do nicely for a beginner. hobbyking.com/en_us/diy-rc-4wd.html
      The price is really good for what you're getting. It's not hard to build and you'll learn something while building it too. It's also tough enough to take some crashes. You can upgrade the electronics (servo, ESC, motor and transmitter) to a better ones. As for mechanical parts you can upgrade wheels (Mini-Z AWD wheels), tyres, diffs (Mini-Z AWD diffs). As for battery, AAA is good for beginner because I'm pretty sure everyone has AA/AAA battery charger. Or just get a cheap one from IKEA.

    Hi Beaver I have a big trouble, and It happened at the first run.
    The joint connecting the wheel servo shaft (U-shaped) has broken. I mean the axle that moves the wheels and that connects to the servo, it's a plastic part, I can't find a replacement on the internet. How can i fix it? Thank you for your job.

    Thank you for this review 😊 and I definitely hope you do a beaver's custom build to it as I bought 2 about 5 years ago, so me and my son could practice tandems, we did get some use out of them but the electrics failed so neither work any more, the first upgrade after the bearings on mine was the swing shafts, as they are terrible then the hubs cracked, then the wheels 😂 lol but I replaced all with genuine kyosho parts and it held up till the receiver packed up, my problem was finding a receiver that fits. I think if you got into it with your know how on this subject you'd solve this in no time 😊 also just today actually, I stumbled across the firelap iw05 it looks good in the pictures with a lot of adjustable stuff I'm just a bit dubious of the quality of the build and reliability of the radio gear etc to just plunge in and buy it

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  6 років тому +1

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  6 років тому +1

      It's an interesting chassis well within 1/27, 1/28 scale but it doesn't have compatibility with Mini-Z AWD apart from the wheels. However the adjustability is great. You can even adjust the caster, that's rarely seen in a car this small. Shocks seems nice and people who tested it said the handling is really good.

    Do you have the dimensions of the chassis? I am trying to look for a chassis that is same as the mini-z MR03N-RM with dimensions:
    Length 162.0mm
    Width 70.8mm
    Height 48.mm
    Wheelbase 94.0mm
    Tread F:59.5mm R:58.6mm

    Will the Firelap IW04M chassis fit the Subaru BRZ body MZP137GM with minimum or no modification?

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  4 роки тому

      Out of the box the wheelbase is 98mm but you get the spur gears in the kit to change the wheelbase to 94mm.
      I believe it will fit the GT86/BRZ since it has the exact same dimensions and proportions as Mini-Z MA010/020 narrow, also MR03 narrow and GT86 fits on those. The width can be adjust through wheel offset and I believe GT86 is 1.5mm narrow wheels on all 4 corners. It's not just about height and width or wheelbase but also how chunky the internals too. GT86 is quite airy inside.
      Anyway, I'll try it for you once I get home tonight just to make sure. I have GT86 body.
      ps. This chassis is one of the best if you want to use Mini-Z body. I've tested most of my stuffs and they fit perfectly except for the Lexus SC430 GT500, surprisingly it's cramped inside. I'm currently using AE86 on 90mm.

      @BeaversHobby  5 років тому

      @@paulodepablo3649 Yes, you just change the gear and move the rear gearbox to change wheelbase. It's that easy.
      Both this and WLtoys are available on Banggood (and that's where I got the cars). IW04M is 73USD, while K989 is 44 USD.
      In terms of value for money, WLtoys beats this car hands down. It's much faster and better to drive out of the box and requires less fixing to get it working at optimal level.
      As for this Firelap, you can't put fast motor in it, the board simply can't handle much. Also you really need whole bearing upgrade and electronics overhaul to get it working correctly and that's much harder to fix than WL. Here's how you do the electronics upgrade. ua-cam.com/video/qLM3Qh6kku4/v-deo.html
      Then you can change motor to something like Mini-Z XspeedV or Hyper Dash 3 from Tamiya Mini 4WD.
      However, if a good looking body and Mini-Z body compatibility is your priority. IW04M is the one to buy.

      @@BeaversHobby Okay. I am not a pro mostly. I am just trying the hobby out. However for 73 dollars, i will have to just get a budget mini-Q due to cost effectivity (if you have some mini-Q that are the same price or less then please tell me). Unless they cut the price to 35 dollars or less. By then i'd like to take a whack at it due to its compatibility.
      The WLtoys sounds really superior. however, i am unsure about chassy compatibility since the 94mm chassy doesn't really fit properly unless i grind off a bit of the wheel arch to give it some space to steer (i did hear you say thay but i need some visual aid of it >_>.). If there's a mod you'd like to share about body fitting on the wltoys to a 94mm then i am sold on it. As for now, the wltoys has only limited body options.
      AMZ and Mini-Q7 is really off the budget XD. with the same price, i could easily get a 1/10 scale RC.
      If you have a mini-Z that won't break the bank and would be thrilling to work on with in the 80 dollar mark, please tell me. As for now, i just want to work on something that's fun.

      @@paulodepablo3649 It's too difficult to make WLtoys 94mm.
      Here's Mini-Q Q1 which is the cheapest Mini-Q there is. www.banggood.com/TRQ1-2-4G-Mini-Drift-RC-Car-p-1390549.html?
      It's 94mm but it doesn't have side clip mounting for Mini-Z so you'll have to make a magnet mount if you want to change the body.
      I think Banggood version comes with drift tyres so look at hobbyking too. That should come with rubber tyres. hobbyking.com/en_us/diy-rc-4wd.html

    I think they should've priced them like an xmod then I would buy one.

      That'd be much more appealing. They recently had a discount and the price came down to something like $50 and that was much better.

      Do you know if they ever fixed the unequal steering yet? Its the main reason that I didnt pick it up even if it was 50

      @@Ilikedahrice No, they don't. The electronics and everything are still the same. You'll have to go through the process of modding it like this. ua-cam.com/video/qLM3Qh6kku4/v-deo.html

      It is!! 😂 Some of the ideas is good though. By combining 4WD and MR-01 battery arrangement it's quite well balanced.
