  • Hedley Gorge is a wonderful place we were lucky enough to visit. Situated in far North Western Queensland, close to the Northern Territory Border, we visited the Bowthorn Station in May 2016, and got to spend the whole day by ourselves at Hedley Gorge.
    Hedley Gorge and Bowthorn Station are now closed to the Public, and we are not sure that it will ever re-open to the public again.

    Unimog Adventures, Just stunning in your delivery mate. What amazing places we have on this earth & how beautiful you have presented it to us With your drone work. I would say that, when "National Geographic sees your Body of work, you will both be snapped up.

      Yes, it is a pity that this area is closed, but I can understand that they are business, and have to do what is right for them. Unless the State is willing to take over responsibility for the tracks and roads to get there, they should not be liable for people on their roads.

    You really visit beautiful places, and it so reminds my of our South African landscape. Lots of resemblance (hope it is spelled right) between the two countries....and then this.... It is VERY obvious you ADORE your wife. Great video's, thank you.

    Thanks for another great travel vlog ... I've enjoyed a few of your other videos and will definitely make time to view more. You Aussies are spoiled with so much variety and so many incredibly beautiful areas ,but I'm glad you've captured your travels. Love the use of the drone to set the scene as the colours of Hedley are amazing. :-)

      @@UnimogAdventures For an old geography buff and "map junkie" like myself whose days of "real" adventure are past, this VERY recent age of super HD cameras with image stabilization, Drones, UA-cam, and Google Earth has been an unbelievable pleasant surprise. I had an 80 year collection of National Geographic Magazines (up thru 1999) that all together didn't scratch the surface of what I've seen in just the last year...now I'm looking forward to exploring remote parts of Australia with your help. Thanks for your effort.

    It is almost criminal they closed that gorge. In just the few short min of drone footage that place is an absolute photographers paradise! Just imagine the golden hour shots to be had!....

      We are pretty cautious when it comes to crocodiles, but we were not the first people there, and we always ask the locals.

    It's a shame that the gorge is shut to the public now. I haven't seen all of Australia yet but I'm getting there.

      Yes, would be great with the water flowing, but then you could not get there without a helicopter.

      21 miles, and you are just coming up to the homestead from the gate on some stations. We visited one station where it is 40km from the road to the homestead, then another 80km to the next boundary.

      Thanks, there are freshwater crocodiles there, but no saltwater ones, those are the dangerous ones.

      It is freshwater, and we always ask the locals. There are freshwater crocodiles there, but they leave you alone.

      I think it had something to do with the cost of insurance for having tourist on their station, and that compared to cattle, the income was not enough

      Not really sure, but it is a working cattle station, so campers were just a sideline which might not have made that much money, I think it might have also something to do with the cost of insurance for visitors.

      The station manager told us, and it is a long way up from the main river, a few waterfalls etc. We did see a freshwater crocodile, but they leave us alone if we leave them alone.
