I bought the game on Sunday since its historical setting, and emphasis on theology and mythology with the elements of philosophy and literature was very intriguing for me. I was interested in it when it first came out but I don’t own an Xbox and don’t play games on PC.
I thought it would be better to play it on my Switch instead of PS5 because it felt like the perfect game to game to play interchangeably between handheld and TV modes. I thought I could play it a few hours a day to relax during an intense period of work.
Omg what game it was! I played it like a man possessed and completed it in 2.5 days with 22 hours during a very busy period. I got sleep deprived because of it, but I couldn’t let it go. What an amazing overall story and masterful storytelling. The way they play with the fonts and how it comes out to be a great importance in some critical instances is simply genius. The attention to detail in terms of historical accuracy and artistic expression is also marvelous.
I’m not a guy who is usually drawn to, let’s say, “smaller” games; however, this one really blew me away and became one of my favorite games of all time. I know it is partly because of my interest for the themes that exist in the game, but I still recommend it to everyone who loves mystery solving - detective games with an actually satisfying ending.
Sounds like we have similar interests (and possibly educational journeys). I'm sure this is not an option, but I will ask you anyway. I see some Latin text in what seem to be load screens. I assume there's no option to play this in mediaeval languages, but could you confirm that? If so, I would be thrilled to use a game to hone my skills a bit more. But I am already sold on the game anyway, but I thought I would ask.
@@seedofwonder what do you name medieval languages to be? Celtic? Latin?
@@siralyssongamer6522 I am no expert but I thought Celtic was more of an umbrella term like Romance. I've dabbled with Old French and Gothic and have studied Latin. I was mostly listening to the review while I worked, but when I glanced at it I saw the word "urbem" (city) and just wondered if it was just for load screens or was more pervasive in the game.
@@seedofwonder I am not experto too lol
Pentiment is such a unique detective game, lovingly crafted, that's also about community, aging, and the passing of generations. 10/10 for me.
Unique is a perfect description for this. I remember discovering subnautica and just being blown away. AAA titles at this point just seem to be recycling themselves.
I've bought it on Steam last year and played it maybe 1-2h only. Never thought I will see it on the Switch. Hope I can finish it now. 😄
You should! It’s really good!
I haven't played many medieval games, and I love the art style and level of detail in this, so I'm definitely gonna try the game!
Played it last year on gamepass, Great game with fantastic Art direction
Amazong game on the Switch OLED. Feels like it was made for it.
I enjoyed this a lot on gamepass.
Y’all all really selling this one to me! I would love to see more games like this! I love history!
Wow. Was not expecting that score.
lol same, nothing about this review is saying 10/10…
This makes me more annoyed about the recent direct than I was before. This game actually looks really cool! But they showed it for all of like, five seconds so, not knowing what it was, I didn't think much of it. There's a much longer and better trailer for the Epic Mickey remake too that also makes that game look like fun. I really wish they'd gone into stuff more in the direct.
There's a physical version available.
Like with a book?
@@nihiliststar lol i wish they'd bundle such a bonus, no just on cartridge or Blu Ray through "limited run games"
@@franciscor390 Aww, that's too bad, but thank you for the information!
History through food. One of the greatest games of this generation; glad more people will get to play it.
Thanks for the review! It is much more simplier, but you would enjoy The Pillar's of the Eart the game ;)
Having only read the book, I have a hard time imagining a Pillars of the Earth game being "simple" 😁
@@nihiliststar hahaha you're right! The gameplay is but the story, you already know! :3
Really liked playing it with game pass on my laptop, it was great. But it’s not a game for people looking for action
Yeah easy 10. Glad that it did not get one oft those forcefully 9/10 or 8/10. This game is fantastic.
I wish I could get into this more. I played it for an hour or so on Xbox and it just didn’t grab me.
Same... it just didn't grab me despite mostly enjoying visual novels and murder mysteries.
There’s 3 acts & each act passes long amounts of time & lets u c how the town changes including all its citizens, if u power through act 1 then act 2 might grab u because of that change. Once I understood where plot & characters were going in act 2 it caught me a lot more & now it’s one of my favorite games ever. Definitely the best historical game ever made, I haven’t seen a game that feels so immersed in its setting
Is this game forgiving, in a sense where if I make what seems to be an inconsequential decision just completely ends my game right then and there? While I get this is a game to be replayed, I'm not a fan of sudden end games like 30 mins of playing.
No - it’s not like an old Sierra game in that way. There are never any “wrong” decisions - just ones that will change things later in the game. I’d go as far as to say there aren’t really any “right” decisions either.
@@TheTobster79 Brilliant, thank you!
Yes.
Played this on PC gamepass and loved it. Honestly there should be more games like this. Pretty good price too.
I just bought it on ps5 let’s see how it goes …
Disco Elysium: Medieval edition.
Absolute masterpiece. Can't believe hose cheap it is. PLAY IT!
I love the game !!
I played it because my fave Lingua Ignota sings a song on the soundtrack, but I have to say I found it pretty slow and boring and didn't make it part three hours or so
When it came out I played it on gamepass and wasn't hooked either. After this announcement I thought I'll give it another try but same, it was putting me to sleep. I do think it's incredibly creative and love the variety it offers to gamers but these is a game for bookworms. I was playing waiting for it to pick up the pace but it's not that type of game.
I didn't even know it was this kind of game, previous talks made it sound like some weird, new thing. This looks good!
Also, another great, unique 10/10 NL score, Horace is an amazing game, also cheap, like 16 hour story, with jawdropping moments that will stay with you, a really incredible game
Great game. Ran suprisingly bad on my series x.
Recently?
Runs at 120fps on PS5. 😂
@@briandadude I played it around the time they added a new small area. Less than a year ago.
@@tomsimmons7673 xbox too. Thats not what im talking about
Another banger by PJ O’Reilly
I played this on steam deck so it being on the switch does nothing for me. Great game though.
I hope there are same kind of game that use this style but with exclesistical classes, supranatural, undead, or dark forces-included plots.
Those fonts are awful. This games sounds great but it’s not accessible at all for someone with visual issues like me. The font changes are novel but its style over function which I tend to hate in games.
Any idea if they at least have larger font options in the settings?
There are options to change the font size and also the style so it's easier to read.
Yeah, they clearly knew that it would be an issue for some people, so there are options right at the start to make the text more accessible.
Microsoft's teams have been really good when it comes to accessibility, good to see that the options appear to be here, too! =D
@@flaminyawn awesome thank you. That’s sold me on giving it a go.
I made a rule about no more 3rd party games on Switch and while Pentenance looks great on Switch, I’m gonna pass on it as it’s not a game I’m really that interested in.
Curious, Why that rule?
What? Why?
Especially Indie games are SO good, you're doing yourself a disservice by ignoring them.
What a silly and absurd rule
I had a rule similar to that considering I have a PlayStation, but then I decided to buy Witcher 3 and Skyrim, among other games again on Switch. Third party games are mostly great on Switch.
@@AlexCFaulkner because they run like a dog sh*t I guess. Terrible loading times.
Nothing is worth giving money to a company that supports "child lovers".
Huh, what do you mean?
I'll bite. What the hell are you talking about
@@HistoryTeacherSteve their parent company kept quite and thus showed support when one of their other acquisitions flat out supported peds.
Maybe that's too long winded for you to consider relevant, it's something entirely up to the individual but I have zero tolerance for it. I will never buy anything from MS or any company they own again and I will bring it up every single time their products cross over into my spectrum of interest.
I understand what you're saying, like most of the people in this world I am also disgusted by it, but do you honestly think that any of the main companies/industries/institutions in this world are without those people? Seriously, if you refused to buy anything from any company who may have a person who is allegedly less than morally stellar you would never be able to buy anything. Even governments have them and you still have to pay tax.
@@carlstevenwilletts I'm not talking about some working at the company without the company knowing, I'm talking about the company openly showing support for it.
