Lights was off for a day or two. Didn't understand why my couldn't just pay the bill. Now as an adult my main bills get paid first: rent, lights, carpayment. So I'm 30 now born in 89. I never had that mind frame of wanting to grow up to fast. I was cool.with being a kid. Iwill say age 13-18 I didn't understand why older family member and church members worked like alllll the time. We were a church family like heavy in the church. Always doing something and traveling. I started working at 21 as a CNA at a nursing home and that's only cause I wanted a car. Bills, lack of money, maintaining a home, lack of, sleep, anxiety, depression. Having to work all the dame time are things they need to prepare these kids for cause this life thang is something else. Off days and having money after paying the main important bills are a luxury.
The sleep part was ME! When I was young I don't wanna go to sleep, now that I'm older I can't wait to go to sleep, and I feel like giving some of my coworkers some of these hands too

As a kid, I thought people in college were so mature and put together, and I couldn't wait to get to that age to be on my own. Now that I'm 30, I look at kids about to graduate at 22, like that is SO young! Also did not realize how expensive things were until I had to pay for them. I get excited when gas is less than $2.00, my favorite foods are on sale, and my favorite clothes brands are doing semi-annual sales, so I can get more than a shirt or pair of jeans.

Now, I don't know if anyone understands but the winters in NYC can be BRUTAL. So as I stated, it was only a threat bc it was too damn cold outside to be serious n my parents knew that - wasted words smh 😕😅. Another thing said was *when I grow up, I am not raising my children the way U raised me - I'm gonna give my children everything they want* ...... I lied!! 😅

So I'm 30 now born in 89. I never had that mind frame of wanting to grow up to fast. I was cool.with being a kid. Iwill say age 13-18 I didn't understand why older family member and church members worked like alllll the time. We were a church family like heavy in the church. Always doing something and traveling. I started working at 21 as a CNA at a nursing home and that's only cause I wanted a car. Bills, lack of money, maintaining a home, lack of, sleep, anxiety, depression. Having to work all the dame time are things they need to prepare these kids for cause this life thang is something else. Off days and having money after paying the main important bills are a luxury.
The sleep part was ME! When I was young I don't wanna go to sleep, now that I'm older I can't wait to go to sleep, and I feel like giving some of my coworkers some of these hands too

So true. As a kid we don't know responsibility only freedom now as an adult we have all the responsibility and accountability in order to have freedom/comfort. As a kid I thought being cut off from playing on the computer all day was cruel but being on the computer unless it is for work now I feel that the whole day was wasted because a girl got things to do. I remember when I bought my first car right before getting my first apartment. I called my momma on the first; not to ask for money, but to say I'm sorry and thank you!! Rent, car payment, car insurance (at 20, it was expensive), lights, groceries, car maintenance, etc. My mom laughed her azz off and asked if I was going shopping with my friends this weekend! Man!! I was in the military. Thankfully the apartment came furnished, but I did buy my own bed, tv, dishes, decorations, etc. I love being an adult, but it was a shock!

I used to be so embarrassed when my mom used coupons. I would be like "Why are you using coupons" Now I check for coupons before I go to the store. I'm signed up for the rewards cards and take advantage of the specials.

As a kid, I thought people in college were so mature and put together, and I couldn't wait to get to that age to be on my own. Now that I'm 30, I look at kids about to graduate at 22, like that is SO young!
Also did not realize how expensive things were until I had to pay for them. I get excited when gas is less than $2.00, my favorite foods are on sale, and my favorite clothes brands are doing semi-annual sales, so I can get more than a shirt or pair of jeans.

I was a weird kid. I LOVED naps and vegetables (still do) and I wasn’t in a hurry to “be grown.” My mom was like, “Being grown isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Grown ups pay bills and go to work. They have to take care of themselves,” I never thought I’d be as stressed as I am as an adult. Some things in life did not pan out the way I’d like, but that’s for another video, though.

I really did call the police on my mom for a wellness when she didn't answer the 10th time. Turns out my phone was on private amd we know black folks don't answer those call 😂😂. Police showed up tho!
