As great as Batman: The Animated Series is, I feel like all these comparisons is a disservice to Spawn.

It's later revealed in the comics that Cog often had ulterior motives while serving as a guide to Al and to give you an idea how far back his immortality was as a Spawn, He was supposedly "Cain" from "Cain & Abel" The first murderer.

I loved the HBO Spawn series. The stories and characters were well written. That cyborg "Overtkill" was brutally terrifying.
I really hated that they *never finished it* it was brilliant !
Fun Fact: Cagliostro was played by Richard Dysart, who was in THE THING with Keith David who played Spawn/Al. So this was a reunion of sorts.

They've been planning to make this movie for ages. I think Todd even mentioned it in the more recent interviews.
McFarlane has been planning a movie reboot for awhile now. Jamie Foxx is set to be Simmons in it

Honestly would prefer 3 or more seasons of a good animated series over a movie because I feel like I’d be disappointed by a live action adaptation.
The Maxx cartoon was on around this time, it had more of that feel. I loved Spawn, Batman the animated series, and The Maxx.

It wasn't at all. The only thing similar was some shot framing & lighting. Every other aspect of the design, anim and storytelling was completely diff't and done anime-style instead of Bruce Timm-style.
I could see why it came across that way but regarding this series, they hired a lot of the crew including the same composer, Shirley Walker

Keith Davids’ voice sold the series for me.
I used to watch this every Friday night at 10pm! Spawn was a very well done animated series! Fyi Keith Davis is a well accomplished actor outside of Spawn. please don't compare him and Kevin k.
No joke, I LOVED him in that old Charlie Sheen movie Men at Work, dude was hysterical. "Never touch another man's fries!" I think I got that right, lol.
I remember at 12 yrs old, I would sneak down the stairs on a Sunday night to watch this epic show. I would have the volume so low, I would be sitting right front of the tv....Which is why I probably wear glasses/ contacts now lol Good times indeed.
Not gonna lie, a spawn and the crow crossover would be more sick than batman crossover.

Alejandro Toro Todd Mcfarlane’s full of shit. Apparently his Spawn reboot is meant to come out any day now too. Though there’s no sign of either work being released any time soon.

I wrote 3 episodes (including send in the KKKlowns) for the second season. Great opportunity for me, but much of your assessment is correct. Wanted to do more with the direction but it ended before there was a chance.

I have the issues out in my garage, great comics, my first introduction to spawn actually.
I remember reading that crossover back in the late 90s. A hell of a fight between the two. Spawn almost killed Batman.
Bat man has a cross over with everyone. I found a small list of good ones we got Predator, we got alien, we got the power rangers, we got Elmer Fudd, we got Harry Houdini, we got scooby doo, we got teenage mutant ninja turtles, we got Tarzan, we got captain America, we got spider man and we got spawn. I’m sure we got many many more than that too, but damn he gets to cross over with everyone. If I was bat man I’d ask to get a play boy cross over. Ya feel me

1:30... that was literally the age when I first watched Spawn in its entirety. I was 13 and my dad just handed all the episodes to me on all 3 dvds. To be fair, that was the same year I was taught how to use a cross bow and was better behaved than I am now.

I had a 900+ DVD collection. When I cut it down to just over 100 spawns HBO collection was one of the things I kept, found it at a pawn shop when I was 17 and couldn't help myself.
I still have my first issue of Spawn and posted a video about it on my channel. I used to watch this series every Sunday night on HBO. Keith David did an awesome job in this.

I just finished the last episode of season 3. Man what a great show this was! They stayed (for the most part) true to the comics. Although the animation isn't anything groundbreaking, it is more than adequate. Personally for me the heart & soul of the show is in the dialogue, voice acting & the unique view perspectives (camera angles, foreshortening of of objects) as it gave the show a terrific atmosphere.

WRONG. Overt-Kill was not named by Stan Lee. Todd McFarlane and Rob Liefeld made that character, but originally as "OVERKILL" when they both were still working for Marvel. After the Marvel revolt of the early 90s to create Image Comics, Todd took the character over (look at the first few issues of Spawn). His name there was "Overkill." It changed to "Overt-Kill" most likely due to Stan's OWNERSHIP of everything an employee creates. Stan Lee takes credit for everything everyone creates as if it was his actual creation with his own hands.
I remember that watching interviews with MacFarlane around the time I was watching this series was an awakening to how creators can have giant blind spots when it comes to story telling. The cartoon had an e tire set if writers refining band streamlining every idea he had from the comics and the story of the series flows much better because of it.
