    It was me! I requested this one. I LOVED Jermaine Stewart. He sang background for Shalamar, and even toured with them for a while. This song was a HUGE hit in the 80s...I adore this video...and those transitions from 2:39-2:42 were so bomb....but that was Jermaine Stewart - he was such a fashion maven. Definitely ahead of his time, and gone way too soon...RIP.

    The 80s were a fun, innocent era.
    In every video or recording from an era, such as this the spirit, or Zeitgeist of that age is imprinted quite literally on the recording. And the viewer will experience that to some extent whether they like it or not. Which is why when watching 80s videos many, especially those who are receptive to it, can feel that very fun and infectious innocence of that era.

    I miss JERMAINE STEWART. HE was quite the deal back in the mid 80s. He was born to be a performer. The track was co-written by am established writer along with a drummer
    Their names escape me but they're still around. What a hit record it made for JS. Everybody wondered who is this guy with this great pop voice? I remember I heard a short interview at the time and he turned out to be American which was a surprise
    He was very soft spoken and when asked iwhat. he thought about being compared to MJ. He chuckled and said you can decide. Jermaine had an incredible voice and really performed with all he had. OF course the ending was a sad state of affairs. RIP J STEWART

      @@CuirPhotodotNet good encapsulation . Narada is fantastic composer and producer. .I'd be so proud to have shared credits on a track like Y.D.H.T.T.Y.C.O. which is a knock out lyrically musically percussion that cool middle on the studio version and Jermaine's little ad libs . America still had good songwriters in the 80s
      That was the pinnacle. I don't fault Jermaine missing the trend and I certainly passed on the album that followed this. I just wish he could have grown old . That guy really left his mark on the 80s. Now you got me nostalgic. cheers!

    So, the video itself is set up like you are part of the audience of a movie theatre, and its also shot at different angles to represent the viewing experience many would witness.
    Then, it gives us the perception that we are in the music video.
    As others have mentioned this was a really big hit.
    Jermaine already had HIV/AIDS prior to recording this, in 1986. The song isn't a reflection of him, his orientation, lifestyle, race or religion; nor is it a personal statement.
    A lot of people have seen this song as being hypocritical, given the way he both contracted and died of the disease. It's just rotten timing.
    Unlike covid19, it took until 1987 for a lot of specialists to come to the conclusions we now understand. Without the internet, and reliant on heavily religious world leaders, the news didn't reach the masses until 1989/90. AIDS was first documented and studied in 1981.

      He took faucis AZT drugs which most likely sped up his death. Same with Freddie Mercury.

    • @makingmnz7564
      @makingmnz7564 2 роки тому

      @@jokerfleckcast3196 Yeah, I remember that "hail mary" medical advice. If I'm not mistaken, AIDS patients were prescribed 10 times the current amount, and that was hastening a lot of the deaths. The dreaded triple cocktail. Unfortunately, that is how medical science has always operated.
      AZT only came around - in very limited supply - in1987, for broader use. It was mainly used to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission from 84 to 88.
      Dr. Fauchi was a very convenient whipping boy for what truly had been a total failure and lack of concern from many agencies in the U.S. People easily forget that France, England, and West Germany were at the forefront of detection and research into the disease and potential treatment. Dr. Fauci was one of many specialists that were consulted, but the FDA and CDC were making the final decisions. Fauci's body, the LIR, contributes to clinical research, along with dozens of other similar organizations. Again, they don't make government policy. RIP to all who suffered and died as a result of this political failure to care, and act appropriately.
