1 Do healthy keto and intermittent fasting for 2 weeks
    -20-50g of carbs (or less)
-moderate protein 3-6 ounces of meat-per meal (high quality protein per meal eggs, fish, chicken, grass fed beef)
-high fat 100-130g 70% of calories
-veggies 7-10 cups (don't count vegetable carbohydrates)
(if that doesn't work after 2 weeks follow plan below)
1 increase protein to 7-9 ounces per meal
2 Increase fat (avocado, egg yolks, coconut oil, butter)(adrenal hormones are made from fats)
    3 Key nutrients
-vitamin B1, the more stress you go through the more you burn up vitamin B1, when you take excessive thinking will go away and a sense of relief
-vitamin C, when people have adrenal fatigue their usually deficient in vitamin C, foods(sauerkraut, bell peppers, vegetables)
-Potassium, the more adrenal fatigue you have the less potassium you're going to have, take electrolytes
    4 exercise
-long walks in nature for 1 hour (no phone or answering calls)(getting space and oxygen)
    5 stress technique

I also learned to make my cocoa with water and just a bit of milk, cause i find milk worsen my allergy. so cocoa keeps me calm, has a lot of magnesium and other minerals, and make me feel good overall.

I've spent a lot of time and effort to find a naturopathic physician and/or an RD/Nutritionist knowledgeable in these finer aspects of health and nutrition as relates to keto and IF and come up empty-handed. And here you are just giving the information away for nothing more than my willingness to watch your video. In my opinion, the best doctors are those that concern themselves more with gut health, specialized nutrition and identifying & correcting core issues above reactive treatment of individual symptoms. You're really making a huge difference in my health. I was headed for an early grave and your informative and instructional videos have given me a new lease on a longer, happier, more active life. I was doing really well on Keto & IF. Down 70# & felt like I was in decent shape. Along came Family "having to have" Carbs & sugar around all the time. As I gave into their common denominator, I found I got angrier and impatient with everybody making messes & not cleaning up after themselves. Having gremlins around can really mess up the momentum of healthy Keto. Objective ignorance demands several meals a day on schedule with carbs and sweets to top it off. I found not having anybody around, is healthier.

Your own self-induced stress not only significantly undermined your own health and previous progress, but it most certainly caused immeasurable harm to their health as well, at least as bad as the carb/sugar toxicity.

Ever since I've dropped all carbs and sugar besides sweet potatoes, my anxiety has completely subsided. I keep a carb in there because I tend to lose waaaay too much water and get dehydrayed if I don't (although I will admit I lose weight really fast the more carbs I cut). I have found that I can still reach ketosis (I get that nasty breath) even with eating a sweet potato everyday while doing IF. Total net carbs usually comes out to about 50g per day. It's amazing what getting the proper nutrition can do for our bodies.

      @kayystaff Рік тому +4

@@CubitaLola Yes definitely! I tend to prefer fruit (berries, cherries, grapes) over potatoes/rice now but if sweet potatoes work for you, eat them. Eating every few hrs is not going to balance sugar levels! It will eventually cause diabetes 2. If one has adrenal fatigue increasing protein/fats will help adrenal function, and increasing vit. c which our adrenals need. I suspect its high carbs low fat lifestyle that contributed to adrenal burnout to begin with so trust that you can do IF but go slower.

Dear Dr Berg, I have been into IF (very low carb) for 6 weeks and started OMAD a few days ago. I feel like I am starting to live again at 52. A small and bright spot of light is shining at the end of the tunnel already. From what I can notice and after learning so much from you and all your fantastic videos and other tutorials, I might need to "fix" adrenal fatigue. I would highly appreciate some extra clarification regarding quantities of nutrients to adjust my diet from IF (eating window of 4h) to OMAD.
In this way, what would be recommended take as quantities for:
    - Protein intake in OMAD? For IF you recommend 3 to 6 oz each meal. In OMAD I do one meal so should I eat 6 to 12 oz in my only meal?
    - Regarding fat the same question: instead of 100 to 130g per meal, should I eat 200 to 260 g in my only meal?
    - Vitamine C intake (natural sources) I already take 3X1000mg a day. Should it be enough?
    - Vitamine B1 I take 8,4mg per day (mixed with the remaining B complex). Should I make any adjustments?
    - Potassium: I eat lots of greens but in OMAD might need to adjust with some KCL. How much should I take?
Maybe I get luky and you will choose this question to the next live Q&A with you! 🙂
    Big hug from Portugal

Love your videos and the info. you provide, but... there seem to be a couple of inconsistencies here - not saying errors, would just like clarification.
Most articles I've read on adrenal fatigue suggest NOT doing IF. My adrenals are extremely weak at the moment. I've been doing IF for 3-4 months and still feel pretty crappy until my first meal. On days when I have an a.m. appointment, I eat breakfast (still fast for approx. 14 hrs.) and feel much better.
Also, if I try walking more than 25-30 minutes, I experience an energy crash (post exertion malaise) that can last days.

I can't do vigorous exercise for more than a few minutes without having days of fatigue afterward, but I've always walked a lot, so I get a few miles in each day by walking to and from a bus stop farther away than my usual one.

My kidneys got so infected I went septic with a 105 fever. But the entire time prior...I kept feeling pain in my back area....turns out it was my adrenal glands.... my aldesterone levels are also completely off....going in next month to do a saline infusion test. I've never been so tired in my life, especially on my periods. This was all on keto diet....going to do IF again to see if that helps.

Dr. Berg, treating the root cause of the adrenal fatigue is the most important thing. For many people, adrenal function weakens because of poor gut health ie SIBO, intestinal (colon) dysbiosis from antibiotics use, etc. Sauerkraut and fermented foods should NOT be consumed as this will make the dysbiosis worse. Avoid inflammatory foods such as bellpeppers, potatoes (nightshades), etc. as these damage the lining of the intestines. Work with a Naturopathic physician and order Genova Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis to test for the patient's microbiome (beneficial and pathogenic strains of bacteria) and digestive enzymes. From here, if the patient has severe lack of good flora (often from antibiotic use) they will need Fecal Microbiota Transplants (FMTs) from a health stool donor to restore the good strains that are no longer present as they have been killed off with antibiotics. Typically antibiotics are given for 14 days prior to FMTs to wipe out the colon of the bad bacteria. Studies show that 10 treatments of FMTs via enema is the minimum recommended protocol for good clinical outcomes of a restored microbiome. There are additional steps that you may need to take in order to ensure success like reducing inflammation in the colon first. A good peptide for healing the intestines is BPC-157, it's available by rx as oral and injection. I recommend the injection as malabsorption prevents the oral from working well in most patients. 150mcg twice daily is good. Most MDs are not aware of these peptides, so seek a Naturopath physician as they are more likely to have experience with them.

    Dear Dr. Berg.
Would you please create a video on how to come off Keto without gaining the weight back???
I have donde Keto successfully a couple of times. One of them for about 2 years. Due to lifestyle/routine changes I stopped. I found myself confused in what to eat and I ended up gaining a lot of weight. Perhaps my body could not process carbs effectively anymore??? Keto gave me so many benefits (mental clarity, weight control) but I want to know how to cycle OUT when I know the I will be unable to follow the diet properly.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Dr. Berg. I have followed you for years. I hope you get to read my comment.

    • @DMWB57

Why cycle off if its giving you benefits? It should be a lifestyle not a diet. Adding back in carbs & sugar will cause weight gain so one has to figure out maintenance once the weight is lost. One can do 2-3 meals per day, low carb/sugar to maintain the weight loss. If you start to gain do one meal per day, fast 20-24 hrs. OMAD is great for maintenance.

Thank you for your excellent videos! With all your videos, when mentioning eating fat and increasing fat, please remember those who have had their gallbladder removed and let them know what they should do about whatever you're teaching on. I've had mine removed, and every time I see you telling me to eat fat or increase it, I always wonder "How can I tolerate doing that?!" BTW, supplements with ox bile may help many, but I tried taking your D3 supplement, and it kept me in the bathroom, so sadly I had to stop using it. So, what can a person do who needs to consume more fat but has no gall bladder? Thanks!

    • @DMWB57
      @DMWB57 2 роки тому +5

The liver will eventually pick up the need to increase bile release if you go very slow w/ increasing fat. Also experiment to see which healthy fats are causing more trouble. It's a shame that doctors so quickly remove gallbladders. I solved my gallbladder issue by going keto, with fasting. My Mom & 2 sisters lost their gall bladders so I knew I would lose mine if I didn't change my diet. I found it was the low-fat-high-carb lifestyle that was contributing to my gallbladder issues. If doctors knew this fewer would lose their gallbladders. All of them have problems with diarrhea since removal, even ten+ yrs later. So go super slow with increasing healthy fats. Good luck!!

I've been doing keto for a couple yrs now for health only but weight is still falling off which is great. But I'm mainly doing it for health. It has worked better than any pill out there for all my health issues. So thank you!
Now, I'm dealing with constantly being tired. I'm 45yrs old adrenal type and retired. Born with atrophy of left kidney till it just quit on me after my second child in my early 30's. So how does this plan work with only one kidney for health? Oh and I have rr ms which made me search out your keto plan in the first place. I know I'm a mess lol. I did the Dr thing and it just made things way worse. So I do your plan, supplements, shakes and colloidal silver. I felt much better and never went back. My choice. No one else's responsibility. I choose to stay natural and organic.

Yes Keto causes stress and need for cortisol so it will initially worsen any condition arising from hormonal deficiency (hence the effect on menopause ) but probably it would improve all these conditions if u push thru with it for at least a month or two but if it's too difficult u could try IF but not full on keto and maybe hormone supplementation or if u're lucky to live in a sunny place then sunbathing a lot bc vit D from sun helps ur body create hormones and then after u manage that add keto to the IF and remove hormone supplementation slowly until u're feeling healed.

One thing I haven't heard you talk about or address and is absolutely essential, is water (H2O) intake and staying hydrated.
Stay away from tap and purified and try and stick with Spring Water.
At least half your body weight in ounces per day of water is needed to stay hydrated.
So if someone weighs 200lbs, they need 100oz. of water a day.
No other liquid is a substitute, and if you drink 8oz of coffee, you need to add that much more water.
A lot of people also don't realize a lot of times when you think you're hungry, you're really just dehydrated and need water.
During Intermittent fasting if you feel hungry, drink a bottle of water, the hunger will go away.

I'm now 141 pounds. This is interesting... When I work physically in my job, especially outdoors, and show at least 6,000 steps a day on my step counter, I'm never very hungry. When I have sedentary days (i.e., under 2,500 steps), I have a tapeworm appetite. Paradoxical logic. Conclusion: Our bodies are strange organisms, designed to be moving and grooving to operate a optimal balance. It's not just the food, but the whole body's operation, that determines its destiny.

Before my adrenals crashed 6 months ago I used to do intermittent fasting 14-16hrs and felt so good my digestion was great. Since my adrenal fatigue (HPA axis dysregulation) I’ve been eating more often throughout the day, protein and good fat mini meals because that’s what’s recommended for adrenal fatigue by most experts, my functional medicine doctor recommendeds that and to avoid fasting during adrenal fatigue until you recover…So idk what’s correct in regards to the frequency of eating when it comes to HPA axis dysfunction. All I know is that snacking thought out the day has made me bloated and making me gain weight in my abdomen. So I’m gonna scale back to only eating 3 times a day vs 5-6 mini meals…doesn’t work for me. But I’m still to nervous to do long fasting. Maybe I’ll just do 13 hrs I seem to be fine.

Long walks outside exhaust me for the rest of the day. I'm literally good for nothing after a 1 hr walk. I don't know what that means. I can do yoga before bed, but a 1 hr walk with the dog leaves me so spent i can't even string words together sometimes.

      Estrogen deficiency maybe?

    • @Storm_Lily
      @Storm_Lily Рік тому

@@pamelapamper nope, I'm estrogen dominant. I think it's an adrenal thing. Probably a B12 thing, and who knows what else, lol.
I know Dr. Berg had adrenal issues, and bc of that he cannot do sustained cardio without being wiped out for days after. For some reason my body reacts to a long walk like sustained cardio, and I'm only 150 lbs. Oh well. I have yoga, lol.

most important thing is to design the meals according the circadian rhythm of cortisol.
when the liver does not work perfect, then on keto/fasting/zero carb the body needs to crank up cortisol really high to push gluconeogenesis to maintain a sufficient blood sugar level. in the morning this happens without carbs in the breakfast. theoretically this could be even worse when having a whey protein shake which makes blood glucose level drop.
what i do now is having 60-70g of oats with milk in the morning that supports the blood sugar level. that is aroun 35-45g of carbs in the morning. that makes cortisol go down and you can feel the relaxing anti-stress effekt.
35-45g of carbs in morning on keto sounds much but it is not because the cells are very insulin sensitive in the morning. that would probably be similar to 20g of carbs in the evening.
what happens now is, cortisol goes down faster, the body does not burn muscle protein, also the body produces more testosterone because of lower cortisol.
next and super important thing is that hunger for the rest of the day goes down for a long time because the body does not need that much protein.
this also means that you are fine with a second high protein meal and you might have enough food to skip the last meal and do IF 16/8.
with this hack keto works again for weight loss. it took me more than a year to figure that out.
at the end it is more a targeted ketogenic diet where the target is a low cortisol level.

I love your book Dr. Berg! Quick question: how long does the adrenal body type person need to practice aerobic exercise before they can add in anaerobic exercise?

HOLD UP , Dr.Berg. Did I hear that correctly? We don't count the veggie carbs? I've been using carb manager and it has definitely been adding my veggie carbs into my net total. Should I disregard this? I would eat way more veggies if this is doable without sacrificing the amazing pace I've been getting thus far.

As long as the veggies are low in sugar you should be fine. Carbs in vegetables comes mostly from fiber and fiber is not absorbed in our bodies but used to excrete waste from our body.

    Hi Dr. Berg,
First off thank you for the amazing videos on how to overcome Adrenal Fatigue. I am curious though about your thoughts on a woman’s hormonal balance on keto. I have found in the past when I ate very low carb that I would become very very emotional. How would you recommend avoiding this? This is my primary apprehension about going completely keto vs allowing healthy grains in.
    Thank you so much!

Have you tried Keto yet or ‘just’ low carb? Seen any difference?

Give it time! It takes a while to adapt to lower carbs. And one usually will go thru sugar withdrawal which will cause one to become emotional. Increase healthy salt, like Real Salt, just a small pinch on the tongue should help with keto flu.

I've heard it's normal to lose weight when you have adrenal fatigue, not gain. Since I've had adrenal fatigue I lose weight easier. I've never had mid-section fat either. My fat is easily distributed. But I give this doctor kudos for the easy ways to check low adrenals at home!
