"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

My father was diagnosed with cancer 14 years ago, and passed away a few months later. When he told me about the diagnosis he said to me, "I'm not Black Peter yet but it's going to be an uphill battle". Love and miss you man. Thank you for passing on your love of the band to me.
My mom passed 7 yrs ago..
My leg still hasn't grown back. Lol.. if u know u know. ...keep your chin up amigo.
God is real..
" And a friend or 2 I love at hand...".
It's a golden one, but not like the fiddler on the roof 😢
I lost my father to cancer, too. Been nearly 45 years ago now.
I work as a nurse in long-term and skilled care, and part of my job is helping my residents "transition to the other side." Boy, sure gives this song a whole new meaning for me.
When it first came out in 70 it was my favorite stoner album by far.
I was right there bro
As if it isn't now?
@@stonejackballer482 Hell yes its great now i was just saying that when it came out i was an 18 yr old stoner and i just loved it im 68 now.
kinda Bluesy as it goes along, ya!
I got this album by mistake, was listening to pop music @ age 14. Was gonna send it back, but after a listen, I was hooked. Changed my musical tastes - then in '74 I was able to see the Dead, Earl Scruggs opened for them, really good show. I'm not a Deadhead, but like a lot of their songs and have played covers of a lot of their stuff. Thanks Jerry and company!!! 👍
I got this album in about ‘78 or so. This was such a change for the Dead but the music never stopped from before or after!! Love me some Dead!✌🏿✌🏾✌🏽✌🏻🤪
🌹Love Jerry’s voice in this song ♥️
“But who can the weather, command “
Say the weather down here so fine
That makes me feel good I can spread my love of the Grateful Dead to my younger generations out there
Workman's Dead is their masterpiece. Black Peter, I just have to sigh...
Absolute masterpiece
The location of the cover photo (unknown for some time) - 1199 Evans Avenue in the Hunters Point area of San Francisco
Did Robert Hunter ever live there?
RIP Bill Walton
I'd highly recommend the Dick's Picks Vol 34 performance of this song. There's so much passion put into that Black Peter, its the best!
For my money, the greatest album of the era.
Especially like the first two warner releases- bought the remastered extended version of this today.
Saw the Dead in 68 up close playing anthem of the sun live .
Alligator!
A Black kitty wandered into my backyard today.........I heard the kids wondering what to name him! I'll have to break it to them in the morning :) I'll be the one feeding him anyway:)
Coming from some random stranger with a Persian named Bear...I don't think a better name could be selected for your new roommate!
I love this song it’s so depressingly Goode
First comment, I am honored! Black Peter! Always one of my favorites. Certainly poignant during the Covid 19 surge. Loving the remastered "Workingmans Dead" Gratefully Deadicated! Thanks, as always. Sincerely, Kevin Mulcahy.
Black Peter? Isn't that a European thing? Poor Peter?
@@gillygil8747 I believe it's an African thing.
@@mma1st105 you love black Peter
have a grateful day Kevin ✌️✌️✌️
Beautiful
This song gives me so much peace ✌️ 😌 💕
I now appreciate this tune from WD enough. Happily enough.
Black Peter has lost Lady Vanessa, Black Peter has a heart of gold for her!!!
Awesome singing 👍 great 🎸 playing great banjo great album.
All of my friends come to see me last night
I was laying in my bed and dying
Annie Beauneu from Saint Angel
Say "the weather down here so fine"
Just then the wind
Came squalling through the door
But who can The weather command?
Just want to have
A little peace to die
And a friend or two I love at hand
Fever roll up to a hundred and five
Roll on up
Gonna roll back down
One more day I find myself alive
Tomorrow
Maybe go
Beneath the ground
See here how everything
Lead up to this day
And it's just like
Any other day
That's ever been
Sun goin' up
And then the
Sun it goin' down
Shine through my window and
My friends they come around
Come around
Come around
The people may know but the
People don't care
That a man could be
As poor as me
Take a look at poor Peter
He's lying in pain
Now let's go run
And see
Run and see
Run and see
Run, run, and see
Hey, hey, run and see
What's that word for hearing a song and having your brain misinterpret the lyrics and insert its own words?
Decades ago when I first heard this song, that happened with this fragment:
*_I was laying in my bed and dying_*
*_Annie Beauneu from Saint Angel_*
This is how my ear heard it and my brain mangled it:
*_I was laying in my bed and dying_*
*_Anyone know, from sin, and, gin_*
I wonder if I'm the only one to have misheard that? (I wonder if anyone _still_ does so?)
@@This_is_my_real_name I always had "anyone know from sin and jail" hahaha. This condition is called "mondegreens".
@@looseandjanglingproductions -- yeah, that's the word. Didn't want to make it's way to my frontal lobes...
I wonder if they ever _sang_ it that way? It's not unknown for bands to sometimes fiddle around with the lyrics on stage.
The best Dead!
I had some great times Playing this Song :) QC
I always think of this song when I hear of somebody telling all their loved ones that they want to say their final goodbyes...and then they go on living another few years after that.
Still my favorite stoner alblum
I'm my way out - multipe organ stuff, but I live in Vermont, where we have death with dignity (Act 39) I get to choose when I get off this rock - You bet damn straight this is being played intersperced with the other Dead tunes I have lined up. I just wish there was a Make A Wish foundation for old deadheads. I managed to hit 249 shows. Just one shy of a meaningless number!
Fuck it brother. Light one up. Peace 🕊
They were crossing the street like the Beatles! :)
I died in 80, always a fav but now my fav fav🌹🗿🕳️
See here how everything lead up to this day, and its just like any other day thats ever been. Sun goin up and then, the sun goin down. Shine thru my window, and my friends they come around...come around...come around. (mouth harp enters)
Best peak/crescendo of any song Ever. Ever. Period.
Could u imagine if this and AB we're a double album!
I....was looking for something else when i searched this LOL jk😅😅 LOVE the dead❤
💯
Que gran canción!!!
Always played at my friend's Wakes😥
Nice song 😎
This Is DOEEPPPE
seht schön
Ja
I never got the title of the album but its great!!
It has a double meaning to me. On the cover i take it to mean this is the version of the grateful dead for the working man. On the spine it's titled "the workingman's dead". I took this to mean that the working man has died...
music of the working man, cant read music, but can play. didnt go to music school. was taught by ear. music is how they communicate , how the oral tradition is kept alive .
Great point, right on !
poor man’s music , its mostly styled in bluegrass. it was the music the poor played on their one day off . its sort of a theme to all the songs . lol
3:52 < Come Around
😁
It is the twain by far 🤔
nickelback is way better
LMFAO 😂😂😂
Funny fucker
hell nah
