"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

Smooth like honey and silk. Jerry Garcia voice is so good on this track and on Black Peter. He was a very dear person to me. Will always be.
Jerry said "I failed the song (High Time)" in an interview. He thought it deserved a better singer. I think it sounds great.
@@jonathanmosher72 rock stars say such things, I think they just say such stuff to eulogize their work
@@jonathanmosher72 Exactly
This and black peter two of my favorite dead songs. I love this darker, melancholy dead sound.
Jerry's voice is so smooth and serene in this song.
This entire album is an absolute masterpiece. One of my favorites of all time. Thank you for a real good time! (A lot of them)
I agree with you mate.I absolutely love this music.
Challenged to be my fave
It truly is the best, I was on the road in Oklahoma trying to get to the next show when Jerry passed and the local radio station asked for requests they played the 7 most requested dead albums and this was mine. Rip Jerry Pigpen Brent
It's a great album. This song specifically speaks to me in ways that hardly any other song can. It easily brings some tears to my eyes.
@@jukejointjack wow that's quite a story man. I'm sorry you never got to see him in person. I wish I could have as well. I was born too many years late sadly. Jerry and Brent together were incredible with their guitar and organ duels. Both of their deaths are tragic. I'm glad I was able to get off the hard drugs especially my 4 year struggle with heroin. As much as I love them both im not ready to join them quite and certainly not go out the way they did. May their souls find peace after death. RIP
"If the Grateful Dead came to town, I’d beat my way in with a fucking tire iron, if necessary. I think Workingman’s Dead is the heaviest thing since Highway 61 and “Mr. Tambourine Man” - Hunter S. Thompson. December 11th, 1970.
Mr. Tambourine Man 😂

Heading to a Show tonight. First show I'll have attended since Jerry made the move to the big Mars Hotel in the sky. Feeling real mixed emotions right now.
I was into Workingman's Dead back when I was14, before I really started appreciating everything from The Dead years later, when i met someone who was a devoted dead head. Back then i had it on cassette, and played it out till it demagnetized.
this is one of the strangest, most unconventional chord progressions i've ever seen. the song works, and it flows with it's own internal logic, sounds great in fact..... but to look at the changes on paper...i mean, who in the hell writes like that? very unique and original.
Thank you, Jerry... GRATEFULLY DEADICATED
Spoke. From. Guitarist or Conductor or other as such?
@@butterman225 piano, wannabe songwriter...I probably scrap ten tunes for everyone I keep LOL...I definitely appreciate the art songwriting, and hunter-garcia songs are very unique IMHO...what do you think? Do you play?
@@hubertsumlin9697 songwritingstorytelling can't express the words without the something to back it up with. Vocals or music, the intention is soreal
Keep in mind that the verse is one long musical sentence. It then modulates 1/2 step and still resolves back to the 5th or A. Try this too. ua-cam.com/video/nxjvo4BRf-Y/v-deo.html
You told me goodbye
How was I to know
You didn't mean goodbye
You meant please don't let me go
I was having a high time
Living the good life, ahh ahh
Well I know
The wheels are muddy
Got a ton of hay
Now listen here baby
'Cause I mean what I say
I'm having a hard time
Living the good life, ahh ahh
Well I know
I was losing time, I had nothing to do
No-one to fight, I came to you
Wheels broke down, the leader won't draw
The line is busted, the last one I saw
Tomorrow come trouble
Tomorrow come pain
Now don't think too hard, baby
'Cause you know what I'm saying
I could show you a high time
Living the good life, ahh ahh
Don't be that way
Nothing's for certain
It could always go wrong
Come in when it's raining
Go on out when it's gone
We could have us a high time
Living the good life, ahh ahh
Well I know
God bless
Contradictions of the human psyche so fantastically sung that it is universally relatable..but I don't hear songs like it these days. It was a deep era.
Living the good life...
This song will always belong to Pancho,.......a.k.a. Michael......first tape homemade, daid listen to this.....i was 14 yrs old....now 65.......miss you both✌️✌️✌️✌️🌻🌻🌻🌻💐💐❤from Sunshine, boulder, CO 2024.....Jan.

Amazing bass!
This is one of my favorite album. I loved this album since 1970's
My favorite Album too
I love you all!
I LOVE THIS BAND
Perfection.
After two years in Texass and California with no appreciation of good music, I landed in Fussa Japan where all this music 🎵 wàs appreciated
Blessed be the Grateful D
I remember playing this for my Dad when he was sick. He asked if it was Crosby Stills & Nash. I told him it was the Dead. Just a funny memory of my Dad.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe Crosby "coached" them with the vocal harmonies on Workingman and American Beauty
he did , they got Jerry to play steal pedal guitar forbthrir track “ Teach Your Children “
All these songs have much deeper meaning now. 😢 RIP Michael Lyons who brought me to listen to the dead and realize much about life. I am so thankful for you old man.
Best GD song
What about c a s e y j o n e s
@@MarkAndrews12 what about a l t h e a ?
I said alright grateful dead give me led zeppelin or deep purple or black Sabbath. Then I heard the grateful deads 1st album wow this is 👍 great singing and great 🎸 guitar playing. I am born again dead head for real. Where is the rest of the albums they have.
American Beauty next

I don't particularly like or listen to any of British invasion bands much. I am very happy with my GD, CSN, Love, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, QSM, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Joni Mitchell, etc.
@@sh230968 Good selections. But I like a lot of British music as well.
My favorite 🌈☮️💚
Thank you
A High Time!The best.
I wanted to listen to grateful dead to listen to something more upbeat after a break up. I didn't want to listen to a sad song again, like this read more like an Eagles song. It's very well done, honestly never knew grateful dead did sad songs. If I'm being honest, I don't listen to a lot of their songs.
Beautiful
To me it's psychedelic country. Garcia was a natural musician playing banjo and pedal steel also. I would want to know if Hunter wrote the lyrics first.
Better than ever!
Beautiful song ❤😎
Sounds really good... great job!
Beautiful song. I rsed to be more into Mars hotel (China Doll, Unbroken Chain) and Wake of tje Flood, Aoxomoxoa and miscellaneous songs like Jaxk Straw. High Time is a beautiful song, Black Peter. Dire Wolf, Easy Ind. They're all so original. High Rime is a favorite. The pedal steel and Jerry's singing. Peace
Bobby and Jerrys guitars are so good together they sound like one.
Masters’ Masterpiece.
Simple. Perfect.
The wheels are muddy, what more needs to be said.....
I love their psychedelic music, but some nights I like their stone-cold country. This is nearly an old Nashville song, to my ears. Like something Bill Anderson would have written .
Just going to play...
Magnifique !
There's more songs on this album that makes me cry . Then any other. You all know Jerry makes you cry sometimes
Killed many a bottle of whiskey to this song
JERRY GARCIA WAS ONE OF A KIND ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡☆☆☆☆☆☆REST IN PEACE AMEN!!!
Man,do I miss you Michael....🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️🩹❤️🩹🥀🥀🎶🎼🎵

This song makes me weep, my sister and I played working man’s dead at our father’s death bed.
Playing through some good head phones with chills right now. May your father rest easy..my kids are young and have both seen members of the Dead. Hope it clicks for them one day.
Since my love is gravely ill, I have been listening to this song. Sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry for my mean and demanding behavior... I will sacrifice everything to be in your life, however I can love and care for you, RRR ❤❤❤
that time of year🙏🦋🌈🌞🌻✌🏻😇
👍🎸🍄🍄🍺🍺💊💨💨🌹🎵great song
Man I love it when people at it lyrics I got this crappy broken phone
Just what the👩⚕️ Doctor 🥼👨⚕️ ordered👍‼️ If everyone & EVERYBODY, every place & EVERYWHERE, all around The 🌎 World 🌍 - took their daily RX dose of Workingman’s Dead (&/or American 🥀 Beauty🌹) The Earth would be a hell of a lot LOT better off 👍🤡‼️
RIP Senior 🎸 Garcia ❤️🙏‼️
❤
I hate country music, but this is a piece of absolute genius!
JC is pretty good too
Its usually people who hate country music that end up loving it later in life.
Lol, never heard the Dead called country before! 😂
This isn't country music.....
GD are a folk rock band.
How was i to know...

My college romance with ...
Don't know why but I think Jason Aldean could howl this song beautifully
Nah. Just...no.
Despite being an absolutely beautiful tune and an example dispelling the notion the Grateful Dead were next to incapable of recording in the studio, Jerry could have used a little help from autotune on "Come in when it's raining..." Man, such a glaring error with such an easy remedy. Yet, notwithstanding this slight hiccup, at the end of the day, when it may in fact be raining and you come in and then go out when it's gone, a masterpiece nonetheless.
there's no error
Favorite, gonna listen to Trashmen, Bird 🐦🐦 is the word.. been watching family dude Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜️ Jah jerrymylitis
How can you hate this song?
