I find myself coming back to this video from time to time. Sometimes a month, sometimes a week, but I always find myself grinning like a child. Thank You Carfection and Henry for this gem of automotive treasure. Long live the manual!
This video is poetry.
Thank you for your support, it means a lot to us.
Same here!
Same, I have lost count of how many times I have come back to this video. It is a Gem, an exquisite one.
I thought I was the only one who’s overdosing this video!
I noticed I was smiling as I watched this video. Somehow Henry captured the pure joy of driving...
I think Henry could read the personal ads in the paper to me, and I'd still be smiling.
That's what he's always done since his Evo days. Wonderful chap really.
YES! I was smiling, rewinding, playing various parts again and again. It was beatiful.
Agreed. Fantastic editing and narration.
I was smiling too. As if I was in my own car and just executed a perfect
4-3-2 heel toe down into a corner. He did capture that feeling and excitement that never gets old.
I think this is one of the most important videos for the car community in recent memory. Perfectly said Carfection. Long live the manual, long live.
sucksqueezebangblow agree 100%
Couldn't say better - long live the manual.
I almost cried!!!! Manual!!!!!!
Touche
sucksqueezebangblow Every time I see your name somewhere I Laugh.
What a phenomenally well made video. Beautifully shot and edited. Fantastic
Couldn't agree any more!
This was like watching Planet Earth but more like Planet Cars.
Agree, showing how manuals are close to extinction :(
Or, in this channel's case, planet UR ANUS......
@@sebasf430And every month we grow closer...
That coffee comparison and how it was shot was pure cinematic brilliance. I literally watched that 5x, went and went and hugged my car. Thank you for this. You expressed the love of the manual gearbox in such a precise and poetic way!
Beautifully said!
Very “Edgar Wright” in the way the cuts were timed I thought. Never seen it in a car review video but it was an amazing use of quick cut editing.
I cried in overwhelming joy. Well said and it was extraordinary done so well in this vid
Absolutly agreed. Awesome editing, cutting, speaking ❤
I love the analogy of "instant" coffee not necessarily a better coffee than a properly brewed/barista'd coffee, when describing the PDK and Manual gearbox shifts. Well said sir. Well said.
Hammer Rocks..... No, no, no, no, no.... One simply cannot compare instant coffee to freshly ground, measured, pressed and finally barista fed coffee. No. Anyone can drive a manual or brew a coffee. So many seem to believe that they can. The reality is, the finesse of a PDK is the perfect coffee, brewed through an algorithmic and precise mechatronic process. Whilst it may seem, detached and too consistent to the pallet... The average expert - let's call you Eddie... Grinds the coffee too fine or too coarse.... Burns the aromatic oils as the hot water passes through and simply ruins the essence of what truly is to be appreciated in the fundamental difference between a manual gearbox being driven properly or with a frustrating incompetence ☕
Hammer Rocks I hate COFFEE 🤮
Screw that, barista, wtf. Do it yourself man!
@@RETMTM foolish to ignore the ritual of doing it yourself every morning
you are describing a roller coaster,
freedom is imperfect
Man ... that edit !! tears on my face !
Everytime I change a gear in a manual transmission there is that feel of internal satisfaction.
Not in a Porsche, there is.....
Excitement
Agreed 👍
I fully agree- instant isn’t better, more robotic or digital isn’t better, and easier or more convenient is certainly not better. Removing the physical and mental connection to objects and processes creates a hollow experience. This goes for everything from cars to relationships across social media. Without meaningful interaction, the things that make us human are cheapened.
I've never agreed with a UA-cam comment more than this
Very well said. I just did a screenshot of this comment.
Profound 😍
Daniel Manning well put
Well said!
Wow. What a glorious combination of words, images and sounds. I have no experience with filming but I am sure some of the camera angles and editing take quite some effort. Thank you, guys, for going that extra mile, purely for our viewing pleasure! Brilliant, work! Also thanks to Porsche #savethemanuals
WheelHeroes I’m an editor but I worked behind the camera for a few years prior. There are some really excellent shots here, ones that you would normally see in a short film at a festival rather than a car video. It’s good work for sure.
Give the guy who edited this a raise
Brilliant. Everything. Brilliant.
I think this may be my favourite piece of automotive content I've ever watched. I keep coming back to it. It gets better every time.
While the car just keeps getting WORSE......
I had a manual Golf GTI as a company car and did 140k over 4 years and every time I stepped out of it, I would look back and say to myself, I love my car. I replaced it with another GTI, a DSG this time, and its become just another car. I like it, I don’t love it. No surprise that it’s getting replaced with a manual Golf R.
Each transmission has its place, and sadly the manual will likely not be with us for too much longer. To those who have never experienced a MT, you will never understand what you missed.
Manuals have a place in lower powered road cars. But placing it in a supercar is dumb. One mistake and you mess your engine up.
KingKrusty I can’t imagine making such a stupid mistake though. If you’re a shitty manual driver then yeah but if you’re good at what you do there are no mistakes.
Plus modern day manuals protect the gearbox anyway, you can’t be flying down the freeway then accidentally shift into first. The gates will lock up and it won’t let u.
KingKrusty you don’t know shit
Thankfully there are still manufacturers who get the message of this video and, hopefully, won’t kill of their manuals anytime soon..!
@@Stratocasterhead51 stop talking about things you don't know about. Load of BS.
Your videos are continually getting better and better. You're outclassing much larger outfits in both form and content. Always love how you capture the emotional and obsessive preoccupation with cars so well without sounding crazy. -- Keep up the good work, please!
this is the best video Ive ever seen on youtube
Welcome to UA-cam!
CarsAndMuscle.. I wholeheartedly agree
Konstantine Drives well, I wouldn't say UA-cam but certainly carfection ☺️
Brilliant video! The coffee comparison is spot on!!!
Richard Lawes motortrends video on it shown the manual to only be a tenth of a second slower on a roughly 2 minute course, the "it's faster" argument doesn't even hold up on track
Tom Higgins What's the title of the video? I'd like to see it
LSKMagic ua-cam.com/video/MSwOx3ZsJ8M/v-deo.html thats the link to the preview of the video, the full video is available for free on their website/app
Tom Higgins Thanks a lot
I just listen to this with my eyes closed. The cinematography is beautiful of course, but even without that, the commentary, the well worded metaphors and highly appropriate voice modulation gives it a rather artistic form. Poetic.
A man after my own heart, great video Henry. I bought a late gen1 991 because I wanted naturally aspirated and a manual gearbox. My OPC said I would regret it as everyone wanted PDK, maybe ‘everyone ‘ does but for me not on a sports car. Your video sums up everything I love about my car.
I did the same. I feel lucky.
Paddle shifter is for track days, time attacks and 0-60 times. Manual tho, is for pure driving sensation
And that’s what it’s all about
💯💯
So but a tesla with no gears at all.
LD #22 actually Randy Pobst at Motor Trend did laps at Willow Springs in the manual GT3 and PDK version. The PDK was less than 0.5 sec faster per lap. Meaningless unless you are racing, and certainly not worth giving up the fun of shifting your own gears.
Luke'N Nuken Is there some link for that?
Would love to share with some of the “auto is much faster” type of guys”.
Great video, driving a manual makes a sports car truly an extension of your body!
Not as much as a motorcycle ;) every movement translates into something
Manual is propahhh
luimarco manuals are loyal
Too true
luimarco manual cars should move to kuwait if you know what i mean big L.U.I
To be saluted
get a real job
This is a love letter to manual transmission !!!!
How does this channel not have over 1 million subscribers? The presenter, the cinematography, and the pure love for cars makes Carfection the best automotive channel!
Excellent journalism, filming, editing and sound.
Undoubtedly the best filmed, cut and edited video I have ever seen on UA-cam!
I mean, honestly: Gave me freaking goosebumps. There is not a single car commercial out there that marketed any car, option or accessory as good as you guys did. Bravo!
Charlie B. Rose and George Peck: You guys definitely deserve a raise! No matter what your current salary is. You should get more after this one. It's pure gold!
Beautiful comparison with coffee! Truly masterpiece of a video! ♥
Still so much love for this video, 3 years on. YES.
“It asks more of you and rewards more deeply too” well said sir ,well said . Thank you for this beautiful video.
Whenever you get goose bumps there is something intangible and spectacular in front of you, which sucks you 110% to the experience. Stunning presentation again in all fronts. Bravo!!
Every time you see it you remember why you fell in love in the first place. You wonder if it can possibly get better but it does every time. You feel honored and lucky to have this kind of craftsmanship at your fingertips. I’m not talking about a manual, I’m talking about Carfection.
Yes manual all the way. For us peeps that enjoy driving, this is the only way u can "feel" the car.
I know this is a year old reply, but I would also argue that at that point, the car isn't something that you merely FEEL. It essentially becomes your physical body. You are basically acting as a more integral part of it's brain having to disengage and re-engage the clutch and shift gears. It's funny that driving stick also made me a better driver by making me pay attention to different cars attributes.
True
I've watched this video dozens of times and I always love it. It so beautifully explains why I love driving my manual transmission cars, even if none of them are a Porsche 911 GT3. Even with that fact, I love driving all 4 of my MT cars.
Edit: I just saw this comment I made 2 years ago and I added a new manual to my garage. My new GR Corolla is an absolute blast to drive!!!
Probably the greatest UA-cam car video ever made. It's flawless, but unlike pdk, it's impactful and characterful, and breathtaking to watch.
Absolutely sublime video! You guys keep raising the bar higher and higher with each video
Each trip of downtown NYC makes u wanna sell manual ,makes u wonder why are u keeping ur stick shift for one more summer . I kept asking, why I love manual. Here's finally the answer "instant isn't always better " . Thanks HC for clearing all my doubts in such a simple manner .
Paulbaba_S Paul performance cars also do not belong in NYC
traffic is pure boredom. my manual gives me something to do in those instances. dont really comprehend the complaints about traffic and manuals!
Paulbaba_S Paul another reason I wouldn't want to live in NYC bad roads too many liberals and PC cunts
After a long day of work.. sitting through almost an hour of traffic in my manual e92 m3 makes me almost wish I got the dct.. then the lanes open up and I get to my fave part of my drive home.. the back roads.
At that point I think.. wow, I considered the dct? Was I insane or something?
LegendInThaMakin exactly the situation . The 40 55 roads with bends are just made for the manuals.
I've driven this generation with the manual, one of those last few cars that really give goosebumps. THE car to buy, nothing beats this performance and drive!
goosebumps during that intro.... great stuff
I think this is the greatest automotive video ever made, it's flawless in every way
oh dear you've just pulled out the big guns...Coffee! good work guys haha
The BFG? THEB BFG!!!!!
Spot on. Wanna be the fastest around a track - get a paddle shift. Want to have the most fun? Manual. Every single time.
The performance advantage is massively exaggerated by the companies who've invested heavily in DCT boxes. A manual can actually shift from 6th to 2nd far quicker, you can do it in one action.
DrPittenstein that’s true but on a track there would be little need to shift from 2nd to 6th
Ordered the manual 🧐👍🏿pity it's a yaris
Gotta start somewhere!! its only onwards and upwards from there(as long as its a manual)
cant wait for my manual versa to arrive to the dealer!
😂😂
Absolutely brilliant. The coffee metaphor hit home so hard. Chills. Thank you for making this!
This video inspired me to save for a piece of this automotive perfection, and I’m proud to say that today I took delivery of my GT3 in nearly the same spec. Thank you for the amazing content!
You guys keep up with the name “Carfection”. Just awesome! ❤️
Thanks Henry, well said and shown! Anxiously awaiting my GT3 Touring arriving in 3 months.
do ya think you’ll miss that massive wing? touring starts looking a bit too much like a base 911, no? why do they debadge the back, it doesnt say “GT3” does it??
No disrespect intended, West Palm Doc, but I do believe your line of questioning, handle and stated geographic location may lead to the ASSumption that you in fact may not be capable of grasping what the Touring model is all about.
Porsche is an expert at tweaking the 911 to the point where there are now over 30 variations. In my case I don't like the look of a wing on a street car, like to row my own gears and couldn't care less about a few tenths of a second around a track. As such Porsche was savvy enough to build a naturally aspirated car for a guy like me that couldn't get a 911R a few years ago.
dont recall asking you the simple question. but thanks for the douche bag response imbecile. it seems in line with many of your comments though so solid job on being a reproducible tool.
I tried to be nice as I could about it. You simply do not seem to get the point on either matter though.
This video made me cry...true masterpiece Henry!
Just feeling 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My favorite shift is 3rd to 4th near red line.
It’s the moment when things go from just great fun to serious adrenaline inducing business. It’s so god damn good.
That’s my favourite too!! ^^
Every time I watch this video I’m left speechless. There is no better video to describe a Porsche. Thank you!
This channel is getting better every day 👍🏼
I've always owned manuals and loved them, but when I bought my Golf R, I decided to go with the DSG - and I love it also... Its fun in a different way and I never truely missed driving a manual... Until this video! You have explained the true passion associated with manuals in a way that I have never heard it before, absolutely brilliant video and perfectly said! I don't regret getting a DSG, but now i definitely miss having a manual!
I've never seen anyone relate so well to my driving sensations 😭... My mom's 6 gear Renault Duster makes me feel alive when I drive it, like I'm connected to everything and everyone around and my senses are so keen. But with an auto, it's like my mind gets the luxury to drift away and pay less attention to the engine's rev, the vibration on my feet, the pace of other cars, rev matching, etc. I really hope producers never eventually get rid of the manual gearbox
I'll keep buying old cars if they do. The new Accord has a manual
I too could also relate to that feeling. I was smiling watching this video. I felt like henry was reading my mind.
This is one of the single best automotive videos made on the platform. Seriously phenomenal and I continue to come back every time I see it pop up on the right side of my screen.
One of the best motoring videos out there. I've watched this more times than is probably healthy.
Now whenever anyone on a forum asks ‘which is better’ I’ll just link this video. Bravo
Amazing video guys, keep up the good work! Did Guy Richie produced this film???😋 Save the Stick! H
2019 and still my favorite video on youtube. Thanks henry
I just shed a joy and pride tear over this magnificent piece of art. Thank you Carfection❤
My goodness, I just watched this again and what a fantastic video it is. Bravo Henry and team!
Wonderful... Watched for the 4th time and it reminds me, every time, why i love my manual gt3 so much
As I run through the gears on my C7 GS Corvette I feel the connection from my hand, through the stick, the transmission and tires right to the road.
How is a C7 manual..? I’m rediscovering that car as of late and rediscovering my initial excitement about it from when it came out. I’d love to try one some time.
The best video of a Gt3 on the Interweb.
I indentify with you Mr.Henry. I am fortunate to own a 996 carrera 2, with a manual, and I woudn´t want anyone else. It just makes you drive better, know the car, understand the engine, and with all that, evolve. And of course, the pleasure of shifting the lever.
I gotta give my all thumbs up to the director and cinematographer and the whole filming team of Carfection! This one is one of their best! Keep it up guys!
Wonderfully made video!
Long live the manual gearbox!
The 161 dislikes are from PDK fanboys
They’re from people who never learned to drive manual.
I believe you mean misogynists
PDK is faster but manual is way more fun to drive
Yeah, and how outnumbered they are 😂 😂...
First of all this is a Porsche. PDK is a legendary invention. But for ultimate old school driving enthusiasts , Manual Transmission is Fire..
This is the best video I've seen on an internet.
This piece is beautifully shot. Not just from an aesthetic POV, but only from how the camera is scripted. It is the best interior shots of a driver’s hands and feet that I have ever seen. A new standard for car videos. Bravo. Bravo.
I absolutely adored the instant coffee to a gourmet espresso shot analogy. The effort!!! Paying cash and getting change back to your hand, the sound of your receipt printing, watching the barista make your drink with all the sounds and click clacking the smelllll of your soon to be reward and the first sip!! ahhhhhthe glory of nostalgic analog days. Thats what's satisfying! You sir won my automotive heart!
Amazing as always! The editing (especially from the coffee shop till the end) is 11/10.
Great coffee, a manual GT3 and open roads. Do you REALLY need anything else..?
No......, but having a Nordhavn 120 as your destination would be a nice addition.
actually yeah, a bathroom. i’d never suck down coffee before a drive like that i’d be pissing in 6 miles ;-)
3:31 After 31 years on this earth, someone's finally taught me how to heel & toe
3:31 minutes? coincedence?
This and the hypercar video are rather preaching to the choir, aren't they? ;-)
And yet, I don't care. Both are excellently articulated and filmed.
I wasn't able to heel-toe my first car (1.2 Grande Punto
Simply one of the greatest car videos ever made. (Paired with one of the greatest drivers cars ever made)
This video was one of the things that finally pushed me over the line to pull the trigger on buying my first GT3. It took me a long time to arrive at the GT3 door, but like Henry says, "Instant isn't always better" and, I've watched this video almost as many times as I've turned back to look lovingly at my car, after parking it.
When it comes to automotive content, this, like the car in the video, is absolutely one of the very best.
Pure smiles through this. The way Henry explains everything that we Petrol heads feel when driving is brilliant. Each gear does have its own characteristics, I’ve never thought of that. So well put together! Well done Carfection, and well done Henry. Oh and thanks Joe Achilles for your insta story, you got me here. 👍🏼
Henry ... you are now in a league of your own !! Wonderful video ... ps GT3 Touring coming in October
This is now my dream car.
Carporn
Thank you, Henry. Of course I’ve never met you but the look on your face, the joy it expresses, makes me feel as if I do. Just thank you.
This should be mandatory viewing by all those people who _claim_ to be car enthusiasts yet say there's no place in the world anymore for "old fashioned" manuals! Fantastic job, as usual Henry- you put this into words better than I or anyone ever could, IMO.
rip mrjww and shmee
Loïc Martel absolutely!
Exactly what i was thinking hahahaha
Writing the name of these two idiots is an insult to this channel!
Ca Te couldn't agree more
Watch mrjwws video on why he didn’t get manual
Manual gearboxes separate the men from the boys.
Not in Europe, every grandma and mom can drive manuals
So do the corners...
Its cringy to associate being a man with driving skill. Here’s a simple argument, if a bully or rapist knows how to drive manual, does it make them manly? Dont think so. Your actions and attitude and way you treat others make you a man. Nothing else. Would your forefathers in the 1800s that fought battles by hand and sword know how to drive manual? Of course not, and they were likely bigger men than all the shitty “Im a man, I drive manual” rhetoric these days.
@@Gergaferg ever heard of "figure of speech"
@@TheDalitis8 Nice one liner to deflect arguments. This particular figure of speech is in the same category of the constantly repeated statements that attach masculinity and being a 'man' with driving a manual gearbox. Objectively speaking, there is hardly any difference between choosing which gearbox to drive with as choosing an electric toothbrush over a standard toothbrush. Would like you like to hear this? 'A manual toothbrush, one that you row back and forth in your mouth, is what separates the men from the boys'.
Manual Gearbox: “Change We Can Believe In”
I loved this video so much I genuinely bought a gt3 because of it.
Another brilliant film. This channel was already best in my eyes, but dare I say, it's getting even better! Thanks for brightening my morning.
This is my dream car.
This is my favourite UA-cam video ever. After we replaced our family M5 (manual) with and S6 (auto) I was so disheartened I ended up buying a Mini, just so I could change gear sometimes.

2 4 6 Porsche 911 GT3 - DREAM CAR !!!
I can literally close my eyes and watch this video with how descriptive and engaging it is. Kudos Old boy.
This is not a UA-cam video, this is a high class and inspiring movie. I need to buy that car, with manual transmission. Brilliant Henry.
Thank you Henry... thank you 🙏
yeah, the stick, heel and toe action, and the sideburns….a daydreamin' from the morning...thnx
For these reasons I will never own an automatic. Weather its my weekend toy or my daily driver. Life is too short to drive an auto.
Except you clearly don't care about Manuals if you're collectively DUMB enough to own a Porsche IRL.....
For those who have not driven a manual. Henry possibly comes the closest to putting the experience into words. Amazing work! Keep those manuals coming!!!
Huge congratulations on being recognized and awarded for this literally spine-tingling bit of film!
Now that’s a video. 👌👍
Long Live the manual!
Shmee and JWW would disagree....hahaha. But I would buy it in Miami Blue with a manual too.
Zharif Iskandar Who?
Shmee looks like he’s got chewing gum in his mouth when he talks.
both gonna sell their cars in 10 months anyway so who cares about car flippers
Eddie Panedi enormous douche*
I dunno how people can listen to shmee he's such a bellend 😂
This is my favorite video on UA-cam right now. It’s so down to earth and relatable. I feel like me and this guy could be best friends when I watch this video.
Of the 911 GT3 videos that i have seen in UA-cam, this is the best and most rewarding one for me. Well Done!
