Fearless is just the right way to describe her. Note when they go into "fours" - usually someone starts off with a pattern and others follow for a while with their variations, and the thing evolves with some changes - note about the second time around, when it comes to Rita's turn, she does change the pattern [what she plays is absolutely right] and catch the look on John Allred's face - pure admiration...
Rearly you hear the trombones chasing and play in front (beautiful voysing). Generations playing together, just so beautiful. So high standard. Olaf Copenhagen
Getting my tools out of a job - had to sit down and watch this again - wow!!!! John A and Toni top notch and the kids did very well with them - the synchronized playing of all the trombones in the 5th minute - drum transition - and jump in by the band and the whole rest of the song super awesome!!! Thanks again Joan - for all this great music. Love to everyone.
Los que amamos el jazz solemos añorar la época dorada de los grandes compositores (Miller, Goodman etc). Gracias maestro Chamorro! la época dorada del jazz es hoy!
Great to see the trombone feature so strongly, especially when it includes the wonderfully talented Rita Payes.. Not to take anything awau from the rest of the front line they are all a pleasure to listen to. Thank you all.
@@hank1519 Yes, I do understand. Should I comment on the pleasure I get from any one particular player, I somehow feel that I need also commend one of the others. They are all worthy of being singled out. Thank you all.
What can I say this time? Yes I guess trombone is my favorite instrument. Arreglo great Sergi! Could hear Magi and Joan Aleix keeping the beat the whole time with my new speaker. Glad they got a rest in the Trombone group solo. But that was a foot tapping beat, great fun. Thx to the guy in Black Senor Joan C
I cannot believe that every day I find things that are so much better than yesterday. Joan and all "Thank you". To Rita, I am your biggest fan. Love it! Joe in Los Angeles.
Great. Reminds me of Melba Liston and her 'Bones - you're in the best tradition of jazz ladies. Congratulations to your male colleagues, too, of course.
Trying not to comment too much....but....Big guy John? on his opening solo really swings it. Trombone my favorite sound as so cool and smooth and that slide effect from note to note...killer. Geat song and a real treat.
Watching this again as I work at home. My favorite instrument - "in Spades" as we say in the states. Those young players in some pretty good company - John and Toni - the whole band, the timing and pace Perfeccion!! I could hear the base pretty well in this one with that player I kind of miss these days. Hope she is well, Ms Magali.
@@paulsj9245 Thanks Paul. Saw one she did on a roof top in the evening. Beautiful tune and setting was gorgeous. The family was involved in that one I believe and another beautiful young lady with dark hair. Should have saved that one. Miles of smiles from the band and kids and guys and guests!! - as one of my good friends likes to say...miles of smiles. Oh yes, I should mention the Guy in Black, Senor Director - that multi-talented guy.

@tomf1dublin1: I know it's just a typo, but just so new SAJB fans don't get confused ... 'Lisa' above is 'Elsa', Alba Armengou's younger sister, a fine trumpeter (and saxophonist!) in her own right. ... R (Australia)
Yes, Sergi Vergés is a great musician. He also plays the trombone and tube. This arrangement was made on a Joan Chamorro theme as he said in an interview: by a girl who plays incredibly well.
I went looking to see if this 52nd St.ish piece somehow eluded me, suspecting it was a Slide Hampton offering. Nope, it's an original. Do these people ever sleep!
Rolf Anderson - Carla ... always in the shadow of her big sister but she continues to do a super job in the band after a good few years. Maybe she's a little shy but I bet she's a great kid deep down with a wonderful smile when she thinks it appropriate.
Great music from the new home of Jazz. Barcelona.
This should be called "Rita Rules!" Her sound, improvisation, and her smile shows she is having so much fun. What an amazing artist!
Little Rita is fearless, standing next to a trombone monster like John Allred and having to improvise next.... no sweat ...
You nailed it girl!!
You may have that wrong; John has to stand next to Rita!
