Ro, from someone who was unhoused from 17-25 and now works in harm reduction, thank you for your brash and beautiful honesty about self/individual blame. Our problems are not our lack of resources. It's our inability to trust and share based on the stigmas (manufactured) against our unhoused. As for the gentleman under the telephone pole, though I know you understand his likely fate, I want to encourage you to remember he could have been hospitalized and decided to turn his life around. There is always hope.
I want to pass on just a phrase to ponder on, not directly, but as a thought project: there is someone right now who would cry tears of joy just to be allowed to sleep in your shed.
Thanks for reading. You are just tops RO.

@@ZachsWonderland its always funny to me as someone who has been homeless and is currently mostly homeless to watch people online who clearly don't truly know anyone who is homeless in their community on a real level and just reads about us online discuss this insanely unimportant things as if they have any merit at all. as if we aren't screaming at you to do something tangible. but people just wanna debate about us, not help us. i dont care if you call me homeless or unhoused. i actually prefer homeless if we are being serious because unhoused seems to take away the urgency, and i need people to understand it''s urgent. i havent been "un" housed, as if it is some transitional state that may dissipate on it's own -- i am homeless, without a home, poor, destitute. in need. take away the urgency and the small amount of people who give a shit about us in real life and whose actions show that gets smaller. and it keeps getting smaller.
just like. im not trying to assume anything about anyone who said this. yall could be homeless yourselves, idfk. im just stating an observation ive had for along time about how liberals discuss the poor and the homeless. like we are an intellectual idea to be pondered, and not starving to death outside your door everyday.

It's so fucking surreal because i literally live in the town Mr. Beast lives in, and the town is boring, run down in places, and totally unassuming. I even get emails from my university saying that Mr. Beast is offering internship opportunities for quite low pay, like 10 Dollars an hour? You'd never guess he lives in a town like this, but the wealth he has is honestly hard to comprehend and it really shows that online perception is nothing like in-person reality but at the end of the day, does it even matter?
Like, I feel like nowadays everyone is DESPERATELY trying to become a content creator and its not only become the ultimate goal, but the only way to feel a part of society and recognized as a human. If you refuse to engage in it, you are deemed abnormal and behind and miss out on everything. Being online is the only way to feel 'seen.' it's like EVERYONE wants to be a content creator because capitalism has made other work grueling and unsustainable, not to mention not enough money. It feels like that scene of World War Z where the zombies (ordinary people trying to propel their channels off the ground) desperately, viciously clamouring over each other, fixated on reaching the top to this perceived Hunger Games-style paradise existing in the opposite side, a land of people basking in millions of dollars doing nothing spectacular. It really is the Haves and the Have-Nots. It creates animosity, envy, comparison, and greed.
I haven't even finished the video yet and my comment probably doesn't even relate, but it's just weird knowing he literally lives in my city and its like...no one cares when he is hailed as a GOD online. It really is like the virtual world is a completely different reality.
Edit: The last section is hauntingly beautiful. You are absolutely incredible and we are so privileged.

Great video overall, but I especially loved the aside on people leaving comments about wanting to make stuff after watching your videos as well as Mr. Beasts. I think you're spot on with the curtain pull idea. UA-cam has become the most sought after career for Young People because a) it is the media they watch the most of and b) it feels accessible, and that sense can be felt with the majority of channels on UA-cam, regardless of size. Mr. Beast mostly creates videos now that would be impossible for the majority of people to create, but they still somehow feel achievable. While plenty of folks viewed the Squid Game video as "rich guy missing the point of Squid Game", I think a lot of people saw it as "UA-camr proves anything is possible". If Mr. Beast can make a Squid Game, anyone can do anything on the platform of UA-cam. What we do feels achievable regardless of how much work, resources or knowledge goes into it. UA-camrs (and by extension streamers) are the most human feeling kinds of "celebrity" and a big part of that is because we aren't solely playing a role (although I imagine almost all of us are playing a character to an extent); we are our dumb selves, expressing thoughts and feelings often through creative and artistic means. Many aspects go into our success, but one of them is that we are ourselves. And ya know being a person is something that everyone has in common. So I think a lot see UA-camrs they somehow relate to and think "if they can make it, why can't I?" AND I would say that goes double for Mr. Beast as, like, on the surface, he is the most average dude imaginable. The skill he has is a keen understanding of analytics and how to make content to make those numbers go higher, but he really doesn't have the outward qualities you would expect from the biggest UA-camr in the world. He's proof that you don't need to be funny, quick-witted, or frankly all that artistically talented to become a UA-camr, and I have to imagine that is appealing to a lot of people.

    • @hamoiq908
      @hamoiq908 2 роки тому +6

For sure and I think it all stems down to the fact it’s like a modern day movie star but so much more realistic, all the other celebrity fantasies like sports star or actress or famous scientist just require such special skill sets and high barriers to entry. I’m not saying perfecting UA-cam doesn’t take skill but for all of gen z it feels like being an internet celebrity while requires a bit of luck isn’t an impossible dream as most of the content creators we love started off in similar places especially more recently where we are seeing people who grew up on UA-cam blowing up now. And if being a celebrity just got “easier” and more realistic kids are gonna be even more into it

the section of the video where you talked about the homeless person that used to sleep near your home. i live in a low income area, and constantly see homeless/ struggling people on the corners of sidewalks near streets, or near the intersection where i take walks. i always try my best to donate what i can; if it isn’t cash i might donate a few cold water bottles on a particularly hot day, non perishables, or those mini hand sanitizers. i can’t do a lot, because i’m still in secondary school, and only a baby sitter, but you really inspired me to really try to build a community/ get to know these people. i always see adults in my life full on ignore homeless people, which ik isn’t fully their fault because of how we’re taught to live, but it scares me seeing this because i’m scared i will start ignoring them. one of my biggest fear is losing compassion for other people (not saying that u don’t have compassion i just dk how to articulate my thoughts properly). im scared that the capitalist system that i was born into and have to live in will change how i feel and how i treat others, which could be inevitable, especially when i have to focus on getting a job and paying for housing and possible higher education. im scared of treating then like those focus tests in psychology where the dots that aren’t focused on by your brain just disappear, and im scared that i won’t know how to foster a community between us because of that.
anyways i loved this video, your commentary and art always makes me really introspective. this video literally made me cry, i was so moved! 🫶🏾🫶🏾

I love this video! It's helping me understand my classwork in modern art history, 20 minutes in and I finally get the fountain by Dada - how art can be everything and nothing at the same time. Thank you for your thoughts, these feel like documentaries and poetry wrapped together and are actively helping me and my own understanding of art.

I just upped my Patreon tier. I've been accumulating spending money since my girlfriend moved in last year - she makes like three times my salary. :D You're one of my favourite UA-camrs, I love the analysis, empathy, cleverness, humour, artistry (being an artist myself). And I also love that I'm a trans man supporting a trans woman thanks to the financial security from another trans woman (my rich programmer girlfriend). We got you.

Hey Ro I just wanted to quickly say that you're videos are sincerely amazing. I'm absolutely in love with your style of legitimate discussion of recent of events mixed with shots that are so much better looking than they have any right to be mixed with genuinely hilarious moments of comedy.
Your videos are always the highlight of my day. Keep on doing great vids! :)

This is one of imo the best videos I'm aware of on UA-cam. Sincerely, ive been a fan of yours for a bit, and still this vid stands out to me. This one's intro camera work was fucking impressive! As was, as always, your script, delivery, humor, ethics and headwall cliff drop level emotional turns.
You're seriously an *excellent* content creator. The shit is impressive.

I just wanted to tell you that this white eyeliner under your eyes does something magical. I can't put my finger on it but it looks very pretty and enchanting. It somehow elevates your whole face. It was hard listening to the video while watching because I would get distracted.
