VA Black Hills Health Care System will have a booth at the 83rd Annual Rally this year at the Armory. If you're a Veteran that was denied benefits before, you may be eligible now for benefits. Stop by our booth to talk with a healthcare or claims specialist, and we'll see what we can do for you.

When I worked in an auto part store I had 2 HA’s in my store and a lady that needed her alternator replaced. It wasn’t a hard job, I could do it in about 5 minutes but as the manager on duty I wasn’t allowed by corporate policy to leave the store for anything more than testing a battery or a check engine light. My co worker wasn’t skilled enough to do the job so… the customer was really upset that he truck was broken and one of the HA guys heard me tell her I wasn’t able to help her until the other manager gets back from lunch in about 30 minutes. The HA asked me what she needed and I told him, he said he would do it for her. The woman’s eyes about bugged out of her head and she asked me if it was ok. I told her he is one of my regulars and he is good people. She said but he’s a… a…. (And pointed to him while he was picking up something off a shelf). I said yes he is and he is a good guy. Don’t believe everything you see on the news, most of them are good guys, a few are questionable and you only ever hear about the bad ones on TV. The HA took her new alternator out to her truck and had it swapped in about 5 minutes. She offered him some money, he refused and told her to donate to a children’s charity instead.

Years ago this club practiced a courtesy of helping people broken down on the side of the road and a member would hand you a card saying something like " I was helped by a Hell Angs today" ( something like that ). It was a really cool thing that might take place if you were broken down. They terminated this courtesy because of paranoid stupid people thinking it was some sort of a crime. ( California)
The Club ( 81 ) , is very expressive about the use of their actual name or abbreviated name.
Not all 1% Motorcycle Clubs are strict with the use of their name.
Personally , I greatly admire and respect this club as a whole. I ride and go to events and things like that. You may rarely cross paths with this club or it's members and it might make little difference to you , but we never ever use their actual name or the abbreviation of their club name. We refer to them as The Red and White .
There is a very clear list of strict rules and language that the club lays down for supporters to understand and follow and we are invited to share those guidelines ( I can't find it at the moment ) . Failure to follow these guidelines will be seen as a great disrespect to the club and you'll be uninvited and unwelcome. Again , for those of us who want to party with them , or be around or make our presence known in their environment, we follow and understand their wishes ----- clearly. Supporters have been following such rules for decades.
With the advent of social media for instance . I will not use 81 by itself ( although I just did ) . It must be either Support 81 or 81 Support.
I can use my name Frank 81 Support or Supporter .
These rules are in place for many reasons , one main reason is to prevent men from posing as an actual member when they are not .

Thank you, I've been going to Sturgis on and off since 1962 and NEVER had any confrontations with anyone and I've parked my scooter right next to the HA and never had anything come of it!! I've parked my bike, taken of my leather jacket, thrown it on my bike seat and come back a couple of hours later and it's still there!! Sturgis is SAFE!! Everyone there has come for fun and relaxation not to cause trouble!! It's a human zoo that you must see once in your lifetime!! Hey, I played music in the bars for 25 years and if you want to see trouble you don't need bikers believe me!! Motorcycle riders are some of the finest, nices, honest people you'll ever meet!! Thanks for the great video!! Most of the ridicule about Sturgis comes from people who've never been there!! Don't listen.....GO, it's a great experence!!!

I'm 71 years old & while I've never been a club member I have hung around with HA for years. One of my all time best friends in the world was a long time HA member. I have partied with them for years. Twice over the years I was business partners with an HA member (I owned a biker bar for 20 years & my partner was HA). I have been a Harley mechanic since the first Harley I built in 1969 (rigid Panhead chopper). I did motor work for members over the years (I build wild stroker motors & my current ride is a tweaked out 124 with nitrous oxide & a Pingel air shift). In all the years, I have never had one single problem with an HA member. I've certainly been involved in my share of scraps over the years but never against a club member. I'm respectable to everybody & I learned years ago that nobody ever got in trouble by keeping their mouth shut 😂 😂

Big facts. As someone who has/wears a backpatch that comes from another subculture and rides, I've never had a issue. The "worst" thing that's ever happened has been club members asking me what it was for. As soon as I explained what it meant, zero issues.

So i drove around to the back door . I kept hearing them go back and forth in front of the store . I thought uh oh . I was nervous . Absolutely wrong thought. As soon as i pulled back around and locked the gate. As soon as I got back in my truck. And they knew I was ok. One kinda waved . And they were gone. I will never forget that night. My experience goes like this...''Don't come around them acting all Billy Bad-A$$ Biker''. That shit won't fly. Just be respectful. Having said that, here is my encounter...15 odd years back, there was a run out in California called The Redwood Run. My first time out there (I rode alone from Kansas), I had no idea the overall layout of the place. I found a spot and set up camp. Turns out it was across from the HA's camp area. As I started pondering my choice of sites, a couple from the club wandered into my campsite. My first thought was ''Oh s**t, I F'd up''. Well, they start the conversation ''Kansas plates? Holy s**y dude, you put some miles in. Did you ride alone? What was the route you took?'' Well, as things went along in a conversation you would expect from a couple of road dogs meeting up at some stop, friends were made. As the weekend progressed, they'd swing by for a drink, some chatting, enjoy some shade, just good times. Well, as it sometimes happens, you run out of ice for your whiskey, and I made mention that I just ran out. One of the guys looked at me and said, ''I got a cooler over there, help yourself''. I was in shock and said ''Shit, I go in there and I'lll get my ass kicked''. They laughed and told me not to worry. There were enough that new of me there that I'd be fine. (He was right). I spent the next handful of years camping in the same spot. Got along with the crew pretty good. Mornings found me being invited over to their camp for breakfast, afternoons were some great conversations while hiding from the sun, and evenings brought the bands and parties. Some very enjoyable times spent with them folks. Their hospitality just blew my mind. On one of my trips out there, I had swung up thru Oregon and Washington State before heading down the coast. I'd spent the first half the day playing leap frog with a different club. A couple simple howdy's along the way at different scenic stops. We ended up at the same gas stop at one point, and finally got to chatting. Again, ''Kansas Plates?''. And the standard road questions started rolling. Next thing I knew when it was time to roll, ''Yo, Kansas, feel free to grab a spot in the pack''. Yeah, respect and just being decent can go a long way. Well, I've rambled enough.... just mind your manners and things will sort themselves out. You just might end up with some good friends/contacts down the road.

Made it to Sturgis one time. Rode in from Longmont, CO on an 80/80 Lowrider with my wife and a tent. We camped in City Park and had a great time. I believe that was the last year anyone was allowed to camp in City Park. Lots of beer was consumed, burnouts and catch the hotdog were popular. And there were a couple nude beauty contests conducted on top of school buses. and a few shots were fired late at night. There was no police presence in the park that I could see. It wasn't so commercialized then. I think I would not like it so much now.

18 years living in Rapid City just down the road, 22 times at the rally. Best time yet from all the events across the country. Although there ARE incidents, usually happens between some members of different clubs. Limited to each other and not really involving others. Once I was doing a little extra work during the rally driving a shuttle bus to the chip. Dammn good money actually, used to make about 10k in the week and a little more. During my last trip, 2 guys did get into it and one slammed a knife into the others neck, tons of blood but I do believe he seriously was being an arsehole and while I have to say he brought it upon himself. @@briansauer6695 To be accurate I USED to live there been gone but have been back for a few rallys and holidays. Angels own property of a campground, a bar and a few more ventures. Don't forget the oldest and the official club who started it all and still roll, Jack Pine Gypsys (Gypsies?). Many clubs have presence during the rally, some have gotten into issues like shootouts and fights but not every club every year. Then Bandidos are like "another' club during the rally but at any other time of year I would say they have the biggest presence. I swear though, I rode 5 or 6 days a week and usually never even saw colors.

Only time I was concerned about an MC was when a rival club showed up riding hard in the dominant club's turf. I skipped out of bike night early that day. Rode to the neighboring county and hit the bars downtown. Thirty minutes later the same MC rolled in in force. I struggled to convince my friends something was about to go down and it was time to leave. Most of the time colors were not an issue. This was different. Not long after that a certain someone on some 19th road was taken out by that same MC. Those who know, know.

We attend all the big events, and you'll see us manning tables handing out cold water and goodies, wearing our vests with single backpatches (we don't have three piece/ rockers). Our organization is welcomed even in areas where there are dominant clubs because we don't step on toes, we treat everyone with respect, and we help out where we can. I've had 1%s roll up on me while I'm riding to see what was up, but they see the patch, give me two fingers down, and either blast on by, or sometimes just cruise along. This makes complete sense, because MC clubs don't want negative attention. Biker rallies have been shut down because clubs let the chain off the sprocket (Laughlin NV) and no one wants to be the reason Sturgis or Hollister or any other rally gets shuttered. The MC's are there to have a good time, like everybody else, and outstanding "club biz" dragged into the public eye harshes everyone's buzz.

That's weird. Must have been just those guys. I rolled into a gas station and there was a pack of roughly 20 or so of em. I own a Honda Rebel 500. I am a new rider and chose that bike to start out on because it is lighter and easier to control for me and the price point was great incase I ever dropped the bike, was cheaper to repair. I also appreciated the riding position and height. I very obviously looked like a newbie and a couple of em strolled up and asked about my bike and why I chose it. I gave em my reasons why and they smiled and told me I had made the right choice for myself. I guess they respected the fact I did some research before buying a bike and knew exactly what I needed for my situation. They did razz me a little about my reflective vest I wore over my jacket. Something we were encouraged to do by the driving school. I laughed and agreed it did look a bit silly. They gave me some great tips, then went on their way. So my interaction with them was a very positive one.

2023 Sturgis was a blast. We went into T shirt shop and on the way out there was this big burly guy sitting in a chair receiving a neck/shoulder massage from a girl that was trying to sell a particular type of gizmo. Our eyes met and I said to him: "Does that feel as good as it looks?". He just looked at me and responded: "I'm sportin a chubster". We both just chuckled. Fast forward 45 minutes. We had parked up by the cop shop and were ready to put our purchases into our saddle bags and I look over at the house right at the foot of the police station. (The dominant club was all over this abode). Who do I see there? This big burly guy again. Our eyes met and in an instant he held up his index finger motioning just a minute, he grabbed an extra beer, headed my way, handed it to me and we started talking. We talked like we'd known one another twenty years while consuming a couple of libations. That being said, was it fun? Yes. Was it enlightening? Yes. Did I feel threatened? In no way, shape, or form. People are people, and as long as you have a commonality, there are no issues and trust me on this one, those boys know how to party.

They don't wear a diamond, but like to act like they do. They wanted to hang out with the big dogs, get loud, act tough, blah blah. But, there's this thing called 'stealing thunder'. Some people don't like when you come into their 'backyard' and act like you live there. Without getting into details, they were invited to go resume the party elsewhere. That was the last time they went as a club. Regardless of what that patch means to you, it doesn't mean shit to them.

My wife is from Sturgis South Dakota and we lived up there for about 10 years.
Went to every rally from 92 well up into the 2000s on and off throughout the years.
Haven't been in a while and we miss it.
But one year we went into a bar and it was so packed it was standing room only.
Of course the clubs cannot wear or display their colors in the bar.
So these two guys that were sitting down offered my wife and I their seats and started buying us rounds.
After a couple hours of drinking and talking.
They had to head out they picked up their jackets and then we noticed that they were Hell's Angels.
They invited us out to the club to come out and hang out and party afterwards.
Of course we didn't go lol.
But some of the coolest guys you ever want to meet.
They look scary but they were cool.
Now I will say one year a local young farmer was harassing the club while they are on the road he was in a pickup truck Well let's just say he didn't make it very far down the road on i-90 before they caught up with him!
They didn't kill him but I guarantee you he showed respect from that day forward lol

Black Label Society created a three piece patch and they did NOT like that. Motörhead had a two piece patch that was obviously a band patch and that was OK.
