Love the intervalometer on mkIII Sony cameras now (I'm using the A7III). It has the same minute exposure ramping that you mentioned in the vid so you can't see any flickering in holy grail. No stop motion mode though. It also has an interval priority option so if your interval is 10 seconds but your shutter speed wants to extend to 15 seconds in A mode then you can choose to allow the camera to automatically ramp the interval or not.
Hi Matthew lovely video very helpful. I just bought the lumix S1R and tomorrow i will try my first time lapse which you made more easy with all suggestion. Nice channel well done
This is very interesting! I'm owner of a GH5 and after three years it was my intention to upgrade to the S1series! With this video you not only conviced me for the switch but you got a new follower! Great video that timelapse compilation of London! Keep going your great job!
At 5:59...you say you're not sure why you would use the "export in reverse" feature. It is definitely very niche, but I'm pretty sure there are a few music videos where the singer learns his or her lyrics backwards and then has things dropping in the background (I think I saw one where water was falling on the performer). When it is reversed they're singing his/her song and things are rising in the air...a cool effect to play around with and yea definitely very niche. Great review.
Nice content I've just started shooting timelapse and i got that flicker problem but seeing your content makes me more confident about shooting more timelapse
Also love the S1 after shooting with it for 11months. Even filmed two commercials with it and the Ninja V. The dynamic range is incredible and I only recently started shooting HLG video and that’s a whole new world for me!
Exelant Mathew, iv decided on the s1 now because of the short shutter increments: that's a blessing in itself, Also loved your london timelapse & all of your work, God Bless
Great video Matt! I'm currently using my first DSLR, the 1300d to shoot timelapse... I think about switching to either the Lumix S1 or the Fujifilm xt-4/Canon eos r...
I have the XT-2 and one real frustration in timelapse is that you have to scroll throw to select the number of shots you want. So if you want 500 shots you have to scroll from 1 to 500 🤦🏻♂️
In your opinion, all cameras are adapted to long work with timelapse? What will work flawlessly for the longest: better sports cameras (Gopro), photo cameras at a similar price as Gopro or special cameras dedicated to timelapse? The main purpose of cameras is to take classic photos. Some timelapse cameras won't run on USB power (without batteries). Such a camera is suitable for long work ?? Will it not break?
Does this camera use the shutter for every picture? kind of want to know if the shutter will degrade overtime or is kind of like the nikon timelapse mode
Using Sony A7R2 mainly. It is older than the S1 but clearly not as capable on the timelapse mode. In these cameras you still have the application mode where in more modern cameras is gone. So with this implementation you can use mobile apps applications as qDslrdashboard. For macro timelapses (I am doing my own trial and error here as well) full frame brings bigger challenges so using crop mode or a Apsc camera (as sony a6000 or more modern versions) will give you a wider Depth of field, something that you will need. Love your videos. Keep pushing
Great video! The information you give are right on point on what I was looking for. I want to start to be serious about doing timelapses. But my actual camera the canon M50 just doesn't cut it, so I was looking for an alternative. But now that the S5 is out for 1k$ less than the S1, I wonder if it could also be a good option for timelapses. If you could review the S5?, it would be awesome.
Just transferred from a Mark IV to an S1 and I love it so far but it’s a whole different beast. Do you still have your free e book? I can’t seem to find it. I’m fairly new with timelapses
I am using Canon 200d (sl2) and cheap intervalometer. It is really enough for me but it doesn't charge via USB sadly. But i ordered dummy battery for it :)
My first camera was a Panasonic G6 an entry-level mirrorless, it had so many great functionalities for the time, time-lapses as well. Since switching to Sony I really miss those well-done menus and the many thought out functionalities. Since the S1 came out I thought a lot about it, but the AF performance is what holds me back, otherwise, it would be the perfect camera. AF is not very important for time-lapses of course, but most people need a camera for many different uses as well and today a good AF system is a must.
Nice video Matthew, I didn't even know about all that functions of the S1. I just switched from GH5 to X-T4 for my timelapse and I'm just testing it. I love the USB-C port to charge, so easy to have some power banks inside the bag and just connect it!
Dang! This camera seems incredible! I love the great auto performance in A mode and that stop motion overaly feature is incredible! Panasonic makes really great stuff. I used to have the GH4 which was really feature packed but I ended up opting to go full frame. I ended up getting a Sony a7s which is my main camera and a7r for my b cam. Neither of those are great for auto-building timelapses, but they both take great photos. Thanks for the update video man! Hope you're staying safe and well!
Thanks a lot Eric, appreciate you! I just remembered way back in the day at my first (and only) job we used GH3 cameras. The thing I didn't like about them was how light they were, was very hard to shoot steady video handheld. I'm very keen to try out some new Sony cameras tho
@@MatthewVandeputte I definitely enjoyed the GH4. I've really enjoyed the sony stuff. I'm still on the original versions with my cameras so I'm pretty keen to try new updated versions 😂
I have a question. I moved over from the a7iii to the S1 and was using the peak design anchors on the Sony but could not fit them on the S1. I noticed you have them on your S1. How did you get them to fit on your camera its been driving me nuts
This camera has awesome features, as you've mentioned. But how about autofocus ??? I see different opinions. I'm looking for a new camera. S6600 crossed my mind also
How did you leave a camera set-up across the city to take a timelapde while you were at a different location? I skip out on taking a lot of time lapses because I'm afraid if I leave it somewhere, someone will steal it.
Cool built-in time lapse options with the Lumix S1 camera! I wish Fujifilm would upgrade their time lapse options as well, but I still manage with an x-t30 and de-flicker software for now.
Didn't want to deal with the high res files (used to have a 5DSR and hated it lol) on my old laptop. Have a new one now which would have changed things
We checked your free e-book - thx 4 very useful tips👍 It seems we need a timelapse in our cinematic videos- how do you think?😉 thumbs up and see ya at our channel bro💪

The interval ramping is a true sign of a timelapser being part of the engineering team I reckon haha
Thks for the info man!

Great video as always Mat! Seems like a SOLID camera! Making me want to get a second cam....
Thanks my dude!!
Literally going out tomorrow to shoot some timelapses (finally ) and I've learned couple of tricks from you. Thanks you x

I think they do it in Av mode but I might be mistaken!
@@MatthewVandeputte Interesting, I'll give it a shot and see if it's small jumps or large
Great run down thanks a million. Can I use an external Intervalometer (LRTimelapse Pro) and still use exposure levelling? Cheers 👍
Nope, external remotes don't work with the levelling, only when using internal timelapse mode. This would be a good thing to add to it tho!

Yup

Hello Matthew! I was wondering, for a good time lapse what the time between one shot to another? There’s any rule I should follow? :)
Download my free e-book and find out ;) (I use 1/3/6 seconds as a guide for people/clouds/sunset)

What camera are you using to shoot timelapses?
Matthew Vandeputte Canon 80D, but the s1 sounds amazing that you can get flickerfree holy grail time lapses straight outta camera!
Sony A6300! I think I just discovered that the intervalometer of my camera has an automatic exposure tracking feature. Gotta test it ASAP haha.
