David Manning so I Just got into doing photography I got a Fujifilm s1800 and it takes AA batteries, the batteries that I use die very fast and I was wondering what u think would be the best recharging batteries or what would be the best batteries to use thank u for the help
And I watched this video so far 3 to 4 time to lock it in lol
Hi, this is Farhan Rahman. I am from Bangladesh. I do photography with my iPhone. Can you make a video regarding photography with an iPhone using camera + app? Thank you in advance.
I love this crash course! Every new photographer needs to understand it though so I'm planning to make a tutorial in Filipino using a Canon Rebel or 80D. Thanks for sharing!!! 😍
More about flat lay photography n how to get better WHITE balance!
How can I be a good mobile photographer??
And that my friend, is how things should be taught. Clear, concise, with visuals of modifications. Amazing job!

Yeah your right. It's better explained than in my photography course that I visited a few years ago
Seriously! I needed this kind of video long ago. I'm subscribing now because of it.
And straight to the point
You forgot got to add that thank me later :)
Damn..I'm still confused 🤣
I've had my camera for 2 years but I was too depressed and had the artist's block and almost forgot how to use it. It's 5am here and I wanna go photograph the sunrise for the first time in almost 1.5 years and this video really helped me thank you so much and Wish me luck❤
Wishing you the best! Hope you continue in photography and do what you love 💜
Wish you the Best, thank you for sharing with us 🙏🏽
U got this Man!
You can do it.
To what do we owe your finding some happiness? Some others of us could use some too. ☺️
Finally someone who can actually explain how a camera work without just spouting out numbers. A very simple and clear video thankyou.
exactly.... Why do people just say random words/ numbers and expect you to follow hahah
"Explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old" is, by far, the best way to start when venturing into this world as a beginner. The explanations were given under the premise the viewer knew nothing about each setting, right down to when and why a photographer would need to change any of them. The examples were a great visual aid as well. This was exactly what I needed to feel ready for the next step in learning. Thank you!!

I immediately liked the video and subscribed when he said that. Please yes, teach me like I’m a 5 year old lol. 😂🥰⚡️🌈💫
This was like half a semester of Photography 101 (which I took ten years ago) in 10 minutes. Awesome! Thanks so much. So helpful.

~ My own notes:
7:56 summary of everything
0:57 ISO - the sensitivity of camera sensor; the higher the iso, the more sensitive the cam sensor is gonna be; higher iso = more light but also more noise and grainy as well; set your iso based on the SCENE
2:40 Aperture - the size of lens opening/hole; the smaller the aperture, the bigger the lens hole, the more light comes in and vice versa; example: lens f/3.5 & f/38... 3.5 has bigger hole while 38 has smaller hole; the picture gets more detailed as the lens opening gets smaller; set your aperture based on the SUBJECT; if you want more depth of field (or more detailed pic), go for higher aperture (or small lens opening)
5:55 Shutter speed - the amount of time (in seconds) that the shutter is open; example: 1/50, 1/250, or 1/8000 of a second for faster shutter speed. There is also 1", 2" , 10" for slower shutter speed meaning your shutter is open for 10" (10 seconds); shutter speed controls motion blur, use faster shutter speed for sports to capture crisp motion and make a fast-moving object freeze in time and avoid blur; slow shutter speed = more motion blur
Fix scenario #1: image is too dark:
- slow the shutter speed
- lower the aperture
- raise the iso
Fix scenario #2: too bright:
- lower the iso
- raise the shutter speed
- raise the aperture
Appreciate it !

It's all about how something is explained. I've watched videos about photography in Portuguese, which is my language, and in English, and this video is by far the most insightful and educational of all.
The aperture part when you use the ruler to explain the depth was the best.
Thanks got one of the simplest, shortest but best photography tutorial.

Yes I paid a lot for my photography class in college, but it was only one part of the overall program I was in. It also included work with Photoshop, InDesign and some other things. As an artist I’ve always struggled so much to understand the “technical” side of photography (basically wherever numbers come in, embarrassingly enough….) and have relied on immersing myself in experience as a way to memorize and comprehend the camera settings… but the way you explained them just now was so clear, it clicked and I finally understood it!! Thank you so much!
I really like this photographer I discovered. He's very unique. ua-cam.com/video/6XGETo4YxM4/v-deo.html
THIS is what those of us just getting started need. The basic foundation of how our cameras operate and how we can use simple, straight forward principles to get decent shots. Much like people who buy high performance cars and drive 10 mph under the limit, it's annoying to see someone with a $500+ camera with it switched to AUTO. Thanks David!
Literally the most straightforward no-nonsense breakdown of photography ever! Thank you!
The simplicity of this video is mind boggling. How you managed to condense all that relevant info in less than 10 minutes is really something. Kudos!
That saved me so much time. What a great synopsis of the core elements. Exactly what I have been looking for to grasp the broad strokes, and presented so clearly. Thanks! Great work.

that is funny and true. Used to go to photography asso meetings and most of the time it was people one upping each other about equipment vs talking about how and whys. This was a great tutorial. Thanks.
If someone can't explain easy enough mostly they themselves are not clear about it. The other thing is good photography is involved but not a deep science subject which requires deep amount of knowledge. Usually you start with basics and if it sticks you will learn on ur own by experience but some folks who charge huge amount of money needs to make it complicated to look their expensive course worthy.

Hey man I just wanna say this video is insane. Half a year ago i bought a Camera and only took photos in Auto-mode because I didn't understand this whole manual stuff with ISO, SS and so on. Now I understood all of this and the pictures are dope! Thank you very much.
Me right now feeling a bit confused. But this video helped me understood the 3 main points of photography. I've recently just started getting into photography. Id like to learn more since I want to save up to buy a cheap camera just to take photos of people or portraits as a beginner.
I like to use auto mode just bcs its faster in some case like at safari but if i have plenty of time to shoot i prefer the manual mode or one of the three priority mode.
set it to Av mode, set auto iso and change manualy only aperture, that's the best more for like 90% of all situations, playing with completely manual mode is crazy for begginers
@@Pidalin what exactly is AV mode? I have a $300 Nikon, not sure if I even have this setting... ?
@@jadeSLenin I mean aperture priority, which is what most of photographers use most of the time. I don't know how it's marked on Nikon cameras, it's mostly Av or just A. www.oehling.cz/data/imgs/29/0031329l.jpg You just set aperture manualy, so you have control over depth of field and you let other things (shutter speed and ISO) on auto which is ok in most of situations.
I took photography in University. You explained ISO so well, simply, memorably and applicably. You actually made sense of it in one fell swoop 🤗
I’d never heard of it before it and makes no sense whatsoever according to how he explained it
Love how you not only explain the basics and use cases but then bring it all together in a real-world situation towards the end. Very helpful, thanks. 🙏
Thank you, thank you, thank you, David!! I've been taking a terrible photography course in school and haven't learned hardly anything, but rather have gotten more and more confused. If I may add one tip that really helped me as a beginner regarding fstop: if you imagine a long line of letter Fs going into the distance, the higher the fstop, the more Fs will be in focus, the lower the fstop, the fewer Fs will be in focus.
I hope that helps someone. 👍
Good video, cheers.
This is sooo smart
The advice to set ISO first and shutter speed last is great for photography. However, everyone should keep in mind that if shooting video, the order is basically reversed. You typically want the shutter speed set as close as possible to 2x your framerate, you still want to set aperture second to get the depth of field you want, and then you adjust ISO last to get brightness to match. If your camera doesn't have enough usable ISO range to achieve the right target brightness, if the image is too bright, you can darken it with filters. If it's too dark/noisy on the other hand, then you may have to compromise on depth of field, and possibly slow down the shutter speed slightly.
*9:43** - SCREENSHOT!*
Uh there's no need to memorize that.
Ahaha thanks

I actually adjust the ISO last all the time. I see ISO as a last measure that will only be bumped up from 100 if I really need it. Usually I just set my aperture first, then my shutter speed as low as possible while maintaining the ISO at 100, and only if I can't make the shutter speed slower than what I usually feel comfortable (around 1/160), only then I'll bump up the ISO. I use a 1.4 56mm on a Sony a6400, btw.
Same
Same here, with my Canon M50 the image quality starts to deteriorate after around 800 ISO, so I have to keep it low
I usually leave iso at 100/200 when it's before dark
I tell people all of the time not to waste their money on photography tours/lessons. I can teach them everything in 15 minutes. I allow an extra 5 for them to set up the camera :-) People overthink and over analyze cameras and photography these days.

The acronym ISO stands for “International Organization for Standardization”. However, camera ISO does not directly refer to the organization that creates various technology and product standards. Ever since two film standards called ASA and DIN were combined into ISO standards in 1974 (later revised for both film and digital photography), they were referred to as one word “ISO” from that point on. Although ISO initially defined only film sensitivity, it was later adopted by digital camera manufacturers with the purpose of maintaining similar brightness levels as film. You can say it either way as well.
Was searching for that comment lol
The International Standards Organizarion change occured in 1983 and was fully adopted in 1984. BTW, I not only remember the change, I still have a roll of film that showed both. That roll of film states 1983/1984 to show the period of time of the change. Now I just need to find it so I can photograph it...
@@jimlanders That would be amazing. My first camera was my grandfathers Minolta SRT-101 and he had some unused fujichrome in boxes still. I really want to use it but can't bring myself to open it.
Pretty much. I mean in application it always was a measurement for light sensitivity either for film or plates or a sensor but the "word" to indicate it has always been the acronym for whatever standard was being used and the organization that devised it. There were a few out there Including GOST if you ever used soviet Cameras.
This idea that ISO is a word in isolation seems to be no more than the 2010s and seems to come from the internet and probably people who have never used a film camera older than the 80s.

Thank you so much Jason, super kind of you! I think you nailed it that you just need to make that push and be consistent about using the GoPro. Obviously, the more you practice, the better you get! With the older DSLR cameras, we used to joke that you weren't a photographer until you've broken a shutter. Mainly, because shutters were rated to about 100,000 releases. So you would need to take 100,000 photos to break one! Hahhaa! Not sure what it is with the GoPro, but I promise you the more you play with it, the better and better you'll get! Hey David, I'm just getting into DSLR and out of 20+ basic tutorial vids I've watched on YT yours is the best in terms of simplicity, ease of understanding, and personal vibes. I went to check out your playlists in hopes of finding more beginner tutorials, but didn't see an easy way to find more. Would you consider creating a shorter playlist of maybe ~10 vids specifically for beginners? May simply be curating some that you already have posted into something like "first 30 days of photography". I think that would help get more viewers to your channel and convert. I'll be returning to your channel regardless, thanks!
Finally someone who can actually explain how a camera work....very simple and clear video thankyou.
Every other video that I have Watched until this one, now, made it sound like astronomy… and there you go in 10 minutes, in simple words, straight to the point…
Thank you so so much !!!
Oh, I LOVE YOU!! You are sooo easy to understand! I am learning so I could take pictures of my products and this has been a life saver!! ❤
I fall in love every day. TAG! YOU'RE IT TODAY!... Thanks for the quick tips. I just ordered a Canon EOS M6 Mark II today and don't know nuthin about photography. CAN'T WAIT!!!
This was incredibly helpful! I've read so much on photography and nothing ever stuck. But your explanations were so easy to follow. Thank you so much!!
I went into this thinking it was just another general generic camera rundown, but this is really good, very well done, you do a great job a breaking things down. I am excited to continue to watch your channel grow. From one photographer to another, best of luck my friend!
By far one of the most helpful quick videos I've experienced. Had my camera for 2 weeks and it can get overwhelming seeing terrible photos ... thank you
As a beginner I really appreciate this video. Clear, concise, nand you make it seem simple which help instill confidence. Thank you greatly!
David your delivery of information is tremendous. Thank you for this video, and including your personality. Subscribed
2:34 Should be: Higher ISO = Needs less light
Alternatively, 'More light' could be replaced with 'More light sensitivity'
This was honestly the best photography video I have found so far! You make it sooooo easy to understand!
Wow. As a beginner who just bought their first camera and has no idea what everything meant, this video was amazing👌
Thats me! 😆
I haven't had a camera or taken pictures for over five years, this was a great recap. thanks for sharing an informative video.
This is easily the best tutorial I've seen on UA-cam, PERIOD. I never comment, but wow I felt that I had to. Hats off to you sir
very informative. i dont have a camera but from a young age i had interest in photography and i held many and took decent pictures but never knew basic things and even before going to the second point you gave me a very important thing i had issues with but never understood why. you took slowly and focus on things that makes people understand better, great work thank you
" talk to me like a 5 yo " that's it ! You should tell your math teacher this !!
Yes, and we're going to get started at 8:00 for a full and concise definition

When he said that, it reminded me of the movie Philadelphia, where Denzel Washington, who plays Tom Hank’s attorney, tells his client to “Explain this to me like I’m a six year old.”
Yes me too i just didn`t remember the name of the movie but i knew it was danzel ...
Hi fellow weeb
Reminds me of The Office when Michael said, “Why don’t you explain it to me like I’m five.”
OMG. This video just blew my mind. I was always so confused on how to combine those three settings. It is so clearer now. Thank you so much!
I'm new to the photography universe. Thank you for those videos ! Straight to the point, easy to understand
Love, love ,love this video. This video was so precise and simple, not so mystic and complex, as I was making it in my head. I'm ready to begin. Looking forward to more of your video's, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!!! Thanks for watching!
It's going to be my first time to teach basic photography to our interns tomorrow and this is quite a good refresher video.
Nice one!
I really appreciate this video - I've been looking for something like this for a long time! My dad is a professional photographer, so I grew up with a camera in my hand, but oddly enough was never taught the basics. My shots are great as far as composition, but it's a gamble as far as the technical stuff. Thank you for the primer!
This video is literally the best photography tutorial video I've watched so far.
It's really clear and easy to understand too.
