2:17 while being true a big sensor is not necessary to produce very good picture. Take Arri Alexa 35, with a so called “crop factor” sensor and it have 17+ stop of dynamic range and produces one of the best image out there. Then the Arri Alexa mini, or the Red Komodo or Komodo-X. All crop with high dynamic range and producing terrific image that people are trying to reproduced with their Sony FX-3
Hmm. And what does an Arri Alexa 35 cost, or the mini, with bespoke sensor and supporting custom hardware and workflow? Because you are being VERY dishonest with that comparison. You are really out here saying "lol, this 80000 dollar body has a crop sensor. And it has 17 stops. FX3 u mad?" Maybe what you should do is say "Sure, you can get better out of a crop sensor but it will cost orders of magnitude (or at least 2x) the cost of this measly FX3 before rigging and before the time and effort is baked in to make it work on set".
@ cost is not the point! This community on UA-cam keep for so long pushing this ideas that if it’s not full frame it’s not great! Keep pushing the ideas that crop factor is not great! If you really want to be honest you can have a great picture today with your iPhone 15 Pro or 16 Pro, which 3 time cheaper than an FX3, or with an FX30 which is 2 time cheaper than the FX3! You can get great pictures out of a RED Komodo, not the X which with the latest price drop is more or less same price as a FX3. I guess you totally missed the point here! You don’t need full frame to get a good or great picture and it’s time to kill that myth. Yes full frame give your greater shallow depth of field and bokeh but you don’t see that often a movie entirely filmed wide open with thin depth of field everywhere. There is more than the sensor size to have a good picture such as lighting, composition, colour scheme, storyline, location, angle! A lot of the high end Hollywood movies are still shoot on crop sensor cameras and even when larger sensor might be used, depending of the resolution used or aspect ratio, those expensive camera will further crop in forward the middle of the sensor, same as you FX3 which doesn’t give you even in 4k UHD the full height of the sensor, its cropping on the top and bottom.
This hype has always been around since in 90's. But of course, the 5DM2 was the one camera that started this revolution, and many more cameras will continue this endeavor.
Would love to get the FX3 but that’s a bit out of budget for me right now. I’m a beginner film maker with my dream being to make it into Hollywood some day. Planning on going to film school in college soon but I also want to start making short films at home. I was looking at the ZVE-10 as my first camera to start with. Is that a good beginner option in your opinion? I eventually want to get the FX3.
We are using the FX6 for most productions. It’s like the large sister of the FX6, but with inbuilt ND, external LCD and professional SDI output, we definitely need for all of our live broadcasting productions.
Hi @Bruno_Kay how do you remove the separate bands that appear in the shadow gradient that shows up in the videos. like the one behind you in the top left corner? or is it just the YT compression thing one can do nothing about?
EXCELLENT video and editing. Question - What about Open Gate? LUMIX S9… why is no one talking about this since they unlocked the video limits? Thinking of moving to this!
Reason why I went with the FX3 over the A7siii is because of the body and ergonomics. I came from an a7Sii since 2016 and it was one hella of video camera to use for its time. Once the a7Siii came out in 2020, I was planning on getting it but insufficient funds didn't allow me to. Good thing it happened because the FX3 came out in 2021 and changed my mind to get the it instead of the a7Siii. I wanted a cinema camera without an EVF, had LED light, and have a fan! The FX3 had all these traits for the body which enticed me more than the a7Siii. Its one of the best investment I ever made for a camera and will continue to be by my side until I stop recording.
I still have two floppy based Mavica cameras. The photos are laughable by today's standards, but back in the 90s, I actually had to SHRINK them down to about 320x200 to post online, so that .3 MP resolution was way more than I needed.
The FX3 is still the best overall cinema camera on the market. It’s still selling so well that instead of replacing it, Sony announces firmware updates a year out.
Can't go wrong with FX30 and FX30 for video compared to other sony alpha cameras and non-sony cameras in the price range: * Dual card * Internal fan * Autofocus * 10 bit 4:2:2 with true 4K * Extremely valuable OTA updates (like adding shutter angle) * E mount lenses * External recording * Excellent apps like creators app and Monitor & control (we use ipad as wireless monitor and controller during podcast shoot) * Support for slog * BRAW recording * FX30 can be used as a still camera in a pinch (even did product shoot with it) * Both camera share same form factor. I JUST CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH. I used other cameras as well but for video especially, the FX entry level is the most well thoughtout, well supported, consumer friendly camera I've ever used.
bro this was a damn documentary in 8 minutes and I loved it! editing style and storytelling is 11/10 amazing video, I actually went for the A7cii over the FX3 for the newer chip and it being an absolute power horse in an even smaller body, plus the retro silver style is such a vibe!
I own both FX3 and A7S3, I still think that they are literal reskin of each other. Having said that, the FX3 is a real workhorse, mine had sea water damage 2+ years ago, a lot of the internal parts are kinda rusting since then and cannot be fixed, but it still works like a charm, providing footage as beautiful as before the damage.
Cool vid/edit! But for 4 bands a better deal is a Red Komodo if you value image quality above all (and global shutter!). I'd also cop the blackmagic 6k FF over this, too. Why? Because raw video, and internally, is so much more important than nightvision or auto focus ... image quality over all IMHO.
I love my FX3… it just delivers. Had it for around 6 months now and the more I get to know it the more I love it. I also have a FS7m2 and I love that as well (probably even more than the FX3!) Once you get used to SLog3 10bit you can’t go back. I am wondering however why the price in Europe is so high?!?! Here in the US the average price for the FX3 body is $3700 to $3900 which is only €3400!!! Strange. Is that due to higher taxes there?
@@FranciscoRamirezAraya i bought it in May 2024 at B&H for $3700 plus $200 tax- US$3900 real price which is around 3575 Euro... That was the real price... our online tax rate in Arizona is only 5.6%
Any camera that was made in the last 8 years shots amazing footage! FX3 it’s great, but not to the level you say it is. I had it, and sold it, and got the S5II X and a blackmagic 12G video asist. And honestly, I think that the lumix beats it hands down on almost every level. Yeah the FX3 has better iso values and better autofocus, but that’s about it.
@ mate, the autofocus o the S5II X it’s almost the same as Sony. To autofocus it’s not something I use often. I use manual cine and anamorphic lenses, and even if I use an AF lens even then I use it manually. There are just certain shots that require AF the rest I need to control where my focus is.
@@35mmdigitalcinema If you use manual focus, the S5II is great for you. For me as a youtuber sitting in front of the camera talking , S5II won't be great for autfocus. I had issues with focus hunting with Sony A7III because I use my hands a lot while I'm talking but the new Sony cameras are just great for that. Believe me I'm dying to buy the Lumix but the autofocus is a deal breaker for me.
Is anyone stuck between deciding Black Magic Cinema 6K or Sony FX3? I love Black Magic’s colours and the sharpness of recording in 6k makes the image so satisfying to look at. But the FX3 has a bunch of great technologies.
As a cheap starter camera with a 10 bit colour profile, you forgot to mention the Sony ZV-E10 II... And it is much more convenient to use than the Black Magic Pocket 4K for every type of video creation...
Prolly cuz it’s a Netflix approved camera with the same sensor and specs as fx6 but 2 grand cheaper. Shutter angle got added to the fx3 as well now. And ibis. That’s why I’d get it.
Problem with rercommeding micro 4/3 as earlier steps, step 3 and 4 is that they will have to buy into that system Once they are ready to step up to fx3, is really expensive move. Instead won't it be better fot begginers to get into the lower end Sony cameras or older models instead? Lenses or at the very least accessories can be reused.
🔴 Bruno! Wicked editing, really outstanding video!! Sorry your BMP4K got wrecked, that much have really suck. The FX3 is next level! I started with GH5, loved it. Then jumped to full-frame with A7Siii (FX3 came out like 2 months after), grabbed a small full-time cage, no fan but has never over heated, not once. Sound been outstanding with Zoom H6, or Lav no need for XLR Adapter but can easily add a carry handle to the cage whenever. Funny I picked up Osmo Pocket 3about 1 year ago and really like it. My Sony A1 though is total BOSS! What do you use to edit your videos? How long did it take you to become so darn good? ...you totally rock man!
The FX3 is too expensive for me 🥹, but I’ll be buying the ZV-E1 next month. If I overlook the weaknesses of the ZV-E1, like overheating, will the ZV-E1 produce video of the same quality as the FX3? Considering that the FX3 and ZV-E1 use the same sensor
Great channel + video & FX3 camera. If only it had a tilted screen instead of swivel one. I'm mainly a photographer doing video partly. But even for video I really hate those swivel screens. So ending up putting an external monitor on top most of the times. Sadly(for me) more and more, if not almost all photo/video camera's go from tilted to swivel.. Lucky brands have models with screens that can do both.
Beautiful camera, but the lack of viewfinder is a deal breaker for me. I'll stick to my S5IIX for now and explore Sony when i'll be better at filmmaking
The actual body of the camera is not the expensive part, the lenses are what really drives the cost up, anyhow I'm so happy to see how much technology has not only improved but also has gotten more affordable, yes that is right, what you get now a days for what you pay is much more affordable than when I bought my F2 photomic many many years ago. . . ah the memories.
I'm more surprised at the low marketshare of Fujifilm. A testament to echochambers, I'm a fuji guy and had the impression everyone was. On feelbased only I thought they'd be second on the list but big nooo to that evidently! lol
You can fully rig out a 2nd hand RED Camera for the same price as the FX3 Body and a single Lens. I recently brought a RED Scarlet-W, fully rigged it out plus managed to buy 2 PL Lenses for it all for £3200 which is £300 cheaper than the body only from CVP...
This camera is also beautiful! And this is where i think sony has an edge over Canon, Nikon or Blackmagic, the design of their cameras are beautiful and functional I cannot stress enough how important this is to motivate people to create, also they tend to be lighter, The only thing missing now is internal compressed RAW or even RAW for video Now that Nikon has bought RED, maybe SONY can get a license for compressed RAW
Fabulous video, thank you!!! But... Pro tip: Instead of holding your mic and waving it around like a madman and making it extremely distracting, just mount it on a stand and pretend it's not there. This will greatly improve your presentation. Not trying to be rude because this is a very informative video, but all I could think about during your talking head bits was the microphone.

FX3 u mad?"
Maybe what you should do is say "Sure, you can get better out of a crop sensor but it will cost orders of magnitude (or at least 2x) the cost of this measly FX3 before rigging and before the time and effort is baked in to make it work on set".
2:38 that's actually a LOT of fragments for such a great low-light camera.
Gareth Edwards scammed me
This hype has always been around since in 90's.
You would want the ZV-E1, not the ZV-E10!! ZV-E1 has the same sensor as FX3.. No Cine-EI or fan, but all the other goodies and more.
@@z352kdaf8324 thanks 💯
You’ve done an incredible job with the editing!
I have two FX30s paired with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, which are excellent -- so I can vouch for that combo being worth adding to the list.
EXCELLENT video and editing.
Question - What about Open Gate? LUMIX S9… why is no one talking about this since they unlocked the video limits?
Thinking of moving to this!
Really appreciate your advice on the camera levels. Just came to this conclusion ourselves in looking to upgrade from 1 camera to 3 for podcasts.
Very nice overall video production quality. What software are you using for the editing and graphics? Subbed and I have an FX3 and love it.
Actually blown away by the editing quality of this video. Great job Bruno.
do you have ost of this video?
such a cool music
How did you shoot the POV shots?
Great review but you forgot to mention one of the key win for the FX3: autofocus
Loved watching this man!
I would love to purchase one but I’m too afraid of all the updates messing up cameras. Is it still going on?
It’s not at all a common occurrence, nothing to worry about.
I have to say, I quite like that sound effect of the Sony camera powering up at 0:39, together with a nice reverb :)
I still have two floppy based Mavica cameras. The photos are laughable by today's standards, but back in the 90s, I actually had to SHRINK them down to about 320x200 to post online, so that .3 MP resolution was way more than I needed.
Though this was gonna be about something from the sony Alpha A series, but I'm guessing that's more stills-focused as opposed to video.
The FX3 is still the best overall cinema camera on the market. It’s still selling so well that instead of replacing it, Sony announces firmware updates a year out.
Love the intro and animations! Got me hooked instantly, great work 👌👏
Can't go wrong with FX30 and FX30 for video compared to other sony alpha cameras and non-sony cameras in the price range:
* Dual card
* Internal fan
* Autofocus
* 10 bit 4:2:2 with true 4K
* Extremely valuable OTA updates (like adding shutter angle)
* E mount lenses
* External recording
* Excellent apps like creators app and Monitor & control (we use ipad as wireless monitor and controller during podcast shoot)
* Support for slog
* BRAW recording
* FX30 can be used as a still camera in a pinch (even did product shoot with it)
* Both camera share same form factor.
I JUST CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH. I used other cameras as well but for video especially, the FX entry level is the most well thoughtout, well supported, consumer friendly camera I've ever used.
Would LIke to have someday! I currently own Fuji Xt3 happy about it, but SONY cams are wonderful.
bro this was a damn documentary in 8 minutes and I loved it! editing style and storytelling is 11/10 amazing video, I actually went for the A7cii over the FX3 for the newer chip and it being an absolute power horse in an even smaller body, plus the retro silver style is such a vibe!
Fx3 II
Man your editing is great!!
I appreciate that!
Considering that cell phones are eating into the camera market - as a photographer...i am happy to see this ❤
SICK video man. Holy shit.
15-20% VAT is usually already included in the final price on display in Europe
Price in the US is not real, you have to add sales tax. Price in the rest of the world is final (all taxes included)
@@FranciscoRamirezAraya i bought it in May 2024 at B&H for $3700 plus $200 tax- US$3900 real price which is around 3575 Euro... That was the real price... our online tax rate in Arizona is
only 5.6%
Any camera that was made in the last 8 years shots amazing footage!
ISO and Autofocus are pretty big deals, tbh. Especially on a camera so small having a dedicated focus puller would be pretty awkward.
The auto focus and low light performance of Sony are the best. S5II is great and I want to it but the auto focus is important to me.
@ rent it first
Is anyone stuck between deciding Black Magic Cinema 6K or Sony FX3? I love Black Magic’s colours and the sharpness of recording in 6k makes the image so satisfying to look at. But the FX3 has a bunch of great technologies.
Nice format, loved the vid
Incredibly well produced man!! I got super excited when I saw my video thumbnail in that flick through of videos!! Haha keep up the super stuff
Lucky brands have models with screens that can do both.
wow bruno! what an opening!
Beautiful camera, but the lack of viewfinder is a deal breaker for me. I'll stick to my S5IIX for now and explore Sony when i'll be better at filmmaking
It’s just the best all-rounder. Point blank period!
Why not Sony a7 iv?
Sick video dude! As a canon shooter this is the one camera that makes me consider converting
Subscribing because of the last clip, but the whole video was really solid! I would love to see some old Mavica images. See how they hold up today.
bro, on the cheap side? Sony ZV_E10 mark one and spacially mark ii are grate options.
just saying.
@00:58 I like how you placed an order on cameranu website when everybody uses b&h to show in the video lol
It just isn't good to buy via b&h for europe 😂😂
Best purchase ever... I have had it for years and absolutely LOVE it
Do a video on the zv e1 plz
The production value of this was something else Bruno!
The OP3 is such a great camera! Along side my Fx3 ( literally ).
Wow! First time seeing this good sound design and montage! Great job man! Love it!
(Even though I don't like Sony cameras)
I'm more surprised at the low marketshare of Fujifilm. A testament to echochambers, I'm a fuji guy and had the impression everyone was. On feelbased only I thought they'd be second on the list but big nooo to that evidently! lol
Wow this is an amazing video! Didn't think i would stumble on one like this today. Keep it up man :D
Beautifully edited. great video.
I got two of them because I rent it out so often I can barely use it for my own projects. Made the money back thorugh rental alone
FX6 FX3 A7S3 all have exactly the same sensor, how the image is tweaked inside the body makes it look different
Clip at the end earned my like
You can fully rig out a 2nd hand RED Camera for the same price as the FX3 Body and a single Lens. I recently brought a RED Scarlet-W, fully rigged it out plus managed to buy 2 PL Lenses for it all for £3200 which is £300 cheaper than the body only from CVP...
Why do UA-camrs show a mic in the frame?
Why not?
Was that a mic? It looked like some sort of goofy-looking paddle 😆
This camera is also beautiful!
And this is where i think sony has an edge over Canon, Nikon or Blackmagic, the design of their cameras are beautiful and functional
I cannot stress enough how important this is to motivate people to create, also they tend to be lighter,
The only thing missing now is internal compressed RAW or even RAW for video
Now that Nikon has bought RED, maybe SONY can get a license for compressed RAW
Wow how long it took you to make this video?
Great editing buddy ❤
Fabulous video, thank you!!! But... Pro tip: Instead of holding your mic and waving it around like a madman and making it extremely distracting, just mount it on a stand and pretend it's not there. This will greatly improve your presentation. Not trying to be rude because this is a very informative video, but all I could think about during your talking head bits was the microphone.
Stunning video mate, truly enjoyed !
I have the FX6 & the small ZVE1 🎥 for me a perfect combo 😅 but FX3 is a cam beast too 👍🏻
OG editing brother...reminded me of those VOX videos...I'm sayign this is crazy!
A Sony rep told me yesterday the FX30 outsells, the FX3.
Because it‘s cheaper and there are more beginners than pros out there
Everyone isn’t buying it- it’s a niche product but a great camera!
