Welcome back to Unguided, where I'm trying to complete every quest in old school runescape without using a guide, wiki or plugins. I'll only be using my limited knowledge and in-game learnings. Full rules below.
RULES
- No use of OSRS wiki (or any equivalent) for anything - this includes looking up item spawns, quest guides, boss guides, anything
- No use of any other quest helper sites
- No use of quest helper plugin
CAVEATS
- I love OSRS UA-cam, I might inadvertently learn something I don't know by watching my favourite content creators, but I'm not going to stop watching them so that's just a risk I'm willing to take + it's unlikely going to be relevant for me
- I may use some QoL plugins, but only a few. Loot tracker to prove grinds, ground items so I don't miss drops and left click to use bones. Nothing that will give me info I didn't previously have
- I'm going to try and avoid any spoiler comments. If you can, please try not to help me if there's an episode where I'm stuck on something. I appreciate the sentiment but telling me an item spawn or quest step could spoil the fun :)

If you're not going to look up xp tables to know how much xp each lvl.
There's a simple rule of thumb that says to add 7 lvl, you need 2x your current xp❤

I honestly thought the previous video title "the closest ive been to cheating" was definitely referring to the converter machine part of the quest. I did it with a runelite plugin and was still mad confused about the damn color tokens. Yet you blew past the token machine but got stuck on a bucket of sap😂what a legend

I think you would also enjoy Flip's series, playing OSRS for the first time. His goal was to beat f2p as a complete noob to the game, without guides. He plans to get membership and continue the series some time too.
7:00 Interestingly by having both numbers wrong, you nearly got the answer correct
52-18 is 34, not 24, so you needed 34897xp as opposed to 24897xp
As the bones that are saved are able to be saved a second time, using a sequence to determine the average uses (1+1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16...) we find that each bones is used twice on average, totalling 504 exp each. This means it actually takes about 69 bones, which is very close to what you came up with anyway!
This can also be worked out by removing 1 from the denominator of the success rate and adding 1 to it (e.g. 1+1/1), meaning this can be used for anything, like a 20% success rate comes out to 1.25 usages (1+1/4)

man, i love your serie my guy! i enjoy the unkowninges from you and you figuring it out on your own, its amazing to watch! Also i don't want to spoil anything for you but i'd love to see you finish up the elven quest line. i really liked how you explained the previous quests and where you struggled and managed to figure it out evrytime.
the elven questline has a really good story, plus at the end of the questline you might find a mighty boss you could conquer.
After defeating it a lot you might find that bow you saw and liked after finishing the path of glouphrie quest.

As someone who binged your series i want to give a bit of advice without spoiling anything. Death is absolutely not as punishing as you make it out to be, i'd recommend seeing if there are any NPC's or anything else in game that may give you an idea of changes to the death mechanics
Oh yeah I’m aware of the 60 min timer and stuff but in all honesty I’m still worried about getting back to wherever I was and stuff. Kind of want to try and avoid it at all cost but it’ll be almost inevitable that I’ll die multiple times during this series lol. Appreciate the not wanting to spoil it for me though!
It's been a while, but if you haven't, check out the death mechanics again, it's much less punishing than that

Having started playing OSRS ~1.5 years ago, The machine and exchange puzzle was the first time I turned off the quest helper, to solve a puzzle by myself, because I was intrigued. Unfortunately I didn't notice the sign on the left... so it took me a whole lot longer to figure out the numbers
But it was still oddly fun, and that's when I started turning off the quest plugin whenever I saw a puzzle. I consider it worthwhile overall

Hey, I did do that but unfortunately I get much higher click through rates without info like that in the title, and as I’m aiming to grow my channel that’s a game changer. People often don’t like to watch a new content creator that is half way through a series. Not everyone, but some people, and I understand that. I appreciate the comment!
Even with a guide that machine you had issues with troubled me for hours, and I was doing it in rs3 where supposed to of been made easier due to having a chart that shows you the values of each token without having to do alot of mental exercises

Took me an hour with a guild massive brain you have hahaha
the chaos altar gives double xp, because it's not a 50% chance for double xp, it's a 50% chance to not consume the bone. that means you have a 50% chance at doubled xp, a 25% chance at tripled xp, a 12.5% chance at quadrupled xp, and if you do the infinite sum it works out to double on average.
Double but not the normal xp:
"Therefore, the average experience per bone is 2x the amount from a player-owned house gilded altar with both incense burners lit, or 7x the normal burying experience."
Never thought about the fact you don't have access to xp cap for each level or xp calculator X.X
Your math is off on the d bones at the wildy altar. Having a 50% chance to save a bone is not just a 1.5 multiplier, that saved bone can get saved again etc etc.

Ok. So congratulations on passing that horrid machine. It really needs a rework. The whole thing is a pain. You wondered if there is more machines, I will not say if there is another machine or not. (Spoilers after all)
But I will do my customary explanation of what details you couldn't figure out.
The idea behind the machine is the token values are equal to their color TIMES the sides they have. Color red has value of one, and a circle has one side. So a red circle has a value of 1.
A yellow triangle would thus have 3(yellow value) times 3(triangle sides) value of 9. A blue Square would have (blue is 5)X(Square is 4)=20.
So you have to add up the value of tokens in each slot. Annoying and only made far worse by the two following problems.
The tokens you are given are random and sometimes really hard to make into the right colors and shapes. So practically speaking the drop trick should be used to get more tokens until you have enough to basically skip the 2nd problem.
The 2nd problem is the token exchange machine is clunky, slow and random. You put in a token and then it gives a RANDOM selection of tokens back of the same value.
So that yellow triangle token of 9? Could be turned into 3 red triangles (value of 1x3=3 each for total of 9) OR you can use the arrows to select a different option of a Red square(value 4) and red Pentagon(value 5) for a total of 9. The arrows select all the different ways the token can be exchange for a different value. But of course each time you put the token in, WHICH selection of tokens it offers is different and you have to select/scroll with the clunky interface again if you back out or whatever.
The whole thing is slow, clunky, not explained or realized if or when you may have made progress and frustrating. The entire interface is a shoe horn. And of course you are looking at that HORRIBLE hand the whole time like a mutated growth is there the whole time.
Again, the most practical solution is basically just drop trick (Drop the quest items so the gnome doesn't think you have the items anymore so you can ask for more) until you have a large selection and thus have easier chance of having the right color/shape of token.
That's my non spoilery advice for you this episode. Remember the drop trick for future quests as sometimes that makes some quests easier to deal with/handle. It's not ever NEEDED to complete (AFAIK) but the drop trick DOES come in handy.

You were probably told this already, but the wilderness chaos altar gives you 2x experience from your bones, on average. Yes, you only have a 50% chance to keep the bones, but it can happen over and over again to the same bone. There's some cool math behind this (infinite series of 1/2^n), you do get douboe xp on average.

your bone math is wrong mate
if you got a 50% chance at saving a bone, and then again on the second time and so on, it's actually 0.50+0.25+0.125+0.0625 and so on. which is called "approaching 1" in math. which means it's actually essentially almost exactly doubling the xp per bone.
Are you allowing people to give you hints in the comments or are you trying to do it completely on your own?
Nah some very minor hints or nuggets of information but only after major grinds have been complete. I’ll often try to actually have completed a grind before it appears in an episode to avoid finding out something game changing
