Hello ELI, good to see you back. The Accord you demonstrate must have many miles to accumulate carbon deposits on the EGR valve and port. I have a 2000 Accord with 2.3L and 114k miles. Should I clean the EGR valve and port as routine maintenance even though the car runs fine with NO codes? Enjoyed your video and Thank You!!! EGR
Hey Albert, it doesn't hurt to check and clean it at the same time. You have another option, doing an induction cleaning service. I recommend using the Lucas intake cleaning solution spray can.
Wire colors means nothing. Its one of the first things you are taught in basic AC or DC electronics class. There may be a general rules of thumb that red is hot or black is ground but don’t assume or you could end up seriously injured/dead depending on the voltage and current or damage equipment.
My car broke down the other day …only codes I get is the EGR and VTEC issue …I did oil change and Vtec code is gone (low oil) …it stalls out when you accelerate ..it bucks and then stalls …now it cranks but no start …some times I have to crank car and pump gas pedal to get it to turn over…it just struggle to start …now it completely won’t work and has a crank no start …could a bad EGR cause my car to stall at lights …im getting the P0401 code …I ignored it …now it just stalls in the middle of road ..struggled to crank back up …bucks and shuts down …now I’m on side of road …I need to get it fixed ASAP …I hope it’s not fuel pump but appears fuel related
@@EliTheOBDTech I took it apart …inspected it…it was closed…not much carbon build up ….it’s an electric EGR…maybe it’s stuck closed…but I put it back together…still crank no start 🤔 ..battery died from trying to crank it…put a booster on it…still crank no start …i tried to see if a spark plug would arc didn’t see anything when I put it against a ground/metal object….maybe distributor….sometimes it acts like it’s about to turn over when cranking it but it doesn’t 🤔…pump is priming…😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫 …who wants this car lol for sale $200 😆 I give up
Good info
Been awhile since i had to test and obd1 honda .
Checking videos for a refresher
Was up bro. It's been a minute. 😆 glad to see you back. 👍
Yea, it's been a minute. Thanks for the support.

What sort of sense does it make to have the red wire be the ground, and the black/yellow wire be the hot? Thanks for the explanations, good video!
I hear you, manufacturers tend to do those type of crazy things.
Do you have any idea if "P0401(80-1) EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED" is related to having carbon build up--on my 2001 Prelude
@@DustinSilva Usually a p0401 is related to having restriction flow, which pertains to exhaust port(s) being contaminated with carbon build up.

Yes, if it's stuck in the open position. It's like a huge vacuum leak. You should remove it and inspect it for carbon deposit around the pintle valve.
@@EliTheOBDTech should I clean it 1st or just replace
I personally would try and clean it first.

@@jharrongarner234 It almost sounds like a timing issue, jumped timing or faulty distributor.
