  • This is how to clean your car EGR valve and afterwards, electronic EGR valve testing to confirm cleaning. Essentially, this video also covers how to test electronic EGR valves or how to test an electronic EGR valve, with the test case being Honda EGR valves. This is a follow-up video to • How to Test Electronic... , where I first found out that the opening and closing times of the EGR valve were out of specification. Interestingly, I have no check engine light.
Symptoms of a failing EGR valve include: poor acceleration, increased fuel consumption, stalling, rough idle etc. If you are looking for how to clean or replace the EGR valve in your car, or how to fix EGR low flow, this is a good place to start. Cleaning the EGR valve can help fix codes such as P0401 or P0402 and a number of the other EGR-related trouble codes, from P0400 - P0408 etc.
This video also addresses EGR valve replacement in Honda, especially those with the K24A engine: 2003-2007 Accord, 2003 - 2006 Element, 2003 - 2008 Honda Odyssey. After cleaning, I retest the EGR using the active scan tool: Autel MP808TS, to see if the cleaning helped or whether the actuator in the EGR itself is failing. The exhaust gas recirculation valve is critical to the emissions' system of the modern day car where it helps improve efficiency and reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). The Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS is a very good tool and covers a decent amount of Honda's in house Honda diagnostic system (HDS).

you should also clean the EGR passages from the intake manifold. IT is a MUST DO operation on K20 and K24 engines.

Best time to test solenoid actuation and valve position sensor are when you have it off the vehicle for cleaning. I feel your pain...

I got an aftermarket scanner and ran the test and it gave me a fail too. I cleaned the EGR and test the actuator and it works properly. Re-installed the EGR with a new gasket and the test still said failed. Just wondering if the this test is actually working properly on these aftermarket scanners.

Also clean the EGR passages and then test again. My current honda doesn't have an EGR, if not I would have repeated the test. I wouldn't doubt the test results if it's a reputable aftermarket scanner.

Well, I kept driving mine, since I didn't have a CEL and fuel trims were fine. Sold the car some months back.

I tried and Autel MX808S and the test failed. So I tried the same test on three other Hondas and the test always failed. I highly doubt that the test is valid a there are no codes.
But still a good idea to clean the spindle as it can get sticky.

How to cliberate it's TPS sensor?

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  3 роки тому +1

Generally, because on this model, the TPS is an integral part of the throttle body, I just usually do an idle relearn which effectively, resets the position of the butterfly plate. The procedure is below:
Make sure all electrical items (A/C, radio, etc.) are off. Disconnect the battery for 3 minutes or so. Turn ignition switch to ON (II) and wait 2 seconds. Start engine and hold engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (transmission should be in P or N) until radiator fan comes on twice. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes (If the radiator fan comes on, do not include the duration it was on in the 5 minutes).

Hi dear..many thanks for sharing this video. I have received my scan tool exactly same as u r using. And I do have an issue with my son car 2014 volvo xc60 t5 petrol 2.0l . A massage appear reduced performance with trtule sign . And engine poor of power. just for a few minutes then off and engine run smooth. I scan it but no any code.
What u think is it egr valve issue? Plz advise if u have an idea.
      Thanks

Hey, great to hear you've received your tool. Intermittent faults can be the most tricky to diagnose. Was it while the light was on that you scanned or after?
I am not familiar to Volvo but from the little I've read online, that message can be caused by several issues. I'd say you try to see if you can spot anything unusual via fuel trim data while you wait to see if you can scan the car again if it reoccurs. ie. Scan while the alert is on.

Regarding a potential EGR issue, online forums have said that if you have the alert plus the anti skid light that it could be EGR. See if it reoccurs though.
