    I just put one in my 8th gen civic SI. That thing is amazing. The increased pedal response and deeper engine sound is no joke. Way louder than I expected. Was very easy to install.

    I have a Nissan Sentra SR CVT with a K & N CAI Typhoon 6969 high performance for 2 years now running without any issue (no engine light) you can feel the power when you push 3500 rpm or higher & it revs quick when you push hard with shell v-power nitro-plus! When you push the pedal very hard you get a worse gas mileage (thirsty) but you save gas as a daily driver! Its a good product & best buck for the money!!! Its sounds the same with AR with a stock exhaust!! Its gives freaking smile on my face every time I press hard on the pedal!! I was convinced with this guy AR when I watch his VIDEO!!

      +Achilles Hey thanks!! I hope the install video helped out. I've been looking into getting an exhaust system as well but just don't have a grand laying around to drop into my car right now...But I would recommend two options for you as far as an exhaust system for your maxima (although I don't know which gen maxima you have). But I would get a Stillen cat back exhaust. That will run you $840 off the Stillen website and give you the most power output for your maxima. Here is a sound clip of it ua-cam.com/video/6EX3qzx9POw/v-deo.html . But if you want to spend over two grand and have the best sounding maxima, I'd get the Motordyne shockwave exhaust system and ART Y pipe. Here's a sound clip of that also ua-cam.com/video/CAEncCic-uA/v-deo.html .

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому +1

      +Hung Over I'd be interested to know what bad things you hear about it. Are you on the fence about installing a cold air intake or about the K&N brand? As far as the cold air intake, it's inexpensive, easy to install (with some mechanical common sense), and doesn't add much power but makes driving your car a lot more enjoyable. Let me know what you're worried about and maybe I can clear up some things from my experiences with it.

    • @hungover1274
      @hungover1274 8 років тому

      AsphaltRequired
      No, it wasnt the K&N brand. That's the one I wanted. I havent found them online for less than $300. Racingline.com has them for $270, but some guys in the Maxima forum said it would prob take 3-5 months to get the intake from there. How much did you pay if you dont mind? There are youtube videos disparaging the CAI saying it actually decreases HP. I dont really believe that, because if it were disproved beyond a doubt, that would have class action against K&N for false claims all over it. I saw some videos on installation. Seems simple enough. Ratchets and allen wrenches right? Got to be super careful with that MAF sensor though. I've bought the K&N box filter for 3 of my last cars and I really like those, but I'm looking for more. I really dig the sound you got. You have 2014SV?

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +Hung Over I got mine from the K&N website for $304 and it took about a week if not less for it to arrive. The fact that it decreases HP is not true. It maaayyy be true for older cars that require a tune if you change the CAI but our car has a smart ECU which means that it will automatically adjust to the increased air flow (Was told that by both K&N and by Stillen). Just disconnect the battery while your installing to reset it and it will self adjust while you're driving. The website says that your car should get 13.25 HP increase at 5246 RPM, just like mine (Yes I have the 2014 maxima, same generation as yours). You won't really feel the power increase too much but you will definitely hear it and it will make driving your car a lot more enjoyable if you like a nice deep throaty sound. The installation is really simple and is all just bolt on. Check out my installation video for the tools you'll need and the process (one thing to make sure you have is a pretty long ratchet extension). ua-cam.com/video/qRdT2VvgyYc/v-deo.html

    • @hungover1274
      @hungover1274 8 років тому

      AsphaltRequired
      And I do like the throaty sound. So you cant tell any difference in performance other than the sound? Thanks for the advice. I'll check out your vids. Have you thought about a Y-pipe or an exhaust upgrade. I have considered that too, but I dont like that "riced out" sound you know. I like the subtle throaty sound from the intake, but I'm scared that an upgraded exhaust will give me too much noise that I dont want. Its not a Mustang ya know...dont want to be loud like a Flowmaster or something. I asked around if you can have an upgraded exhaust without changing the sound much if at all, and nobody has been able to give me an answer on that

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +Hung Over You can notice a small performance upgrade when your driving above 5000 rpms but not too much. You won't get huge power gains for $300...I really want to get a cat back exhaust as well. Through all my research, I would strongly recommend the Stillen cat back exhaust. It's probably the best exhaust you can get with the most power output for your maxima. It also doesn't sound like a ricer at all, it has a very nice sound to it ua-cam.com/video/6EX3qzx9POw/v-deo.html . If you have some money to spend though, I would get the motordyne cat back with an Art Y-pipe ua-cam.com/video/CAEncCic-uA/v-deo.html . It sounds reeeaalllly nice, buuut it does make it sound more like a mustang, but I like that in my opinion.

    Thank you for the video, very informative! I saw the installation process as well, you did a great job and made it look like it's easy to install. I'm going to order mine in few days. I would like to ask you a question that's unrelated to the video though, have you had any problems with the CVT, they say a pretty bad things about it, I'm asking because you look like an aggressive-style driver like myself? Thanks again.

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому +1

      +peter abu-jaber Thanks I appreciate it! It was a little weird and took some time getting used to the CVT transmission but it's ok once you get used to it. My car has about 45,000 miles on it and I have not had any issues with the transmission so far. In this video I switched it over to manual mode or tiptronic to change gears "manually". The CVT is different but a lot of manufacturers are moving over to it and it's been available for a while now so it has only improved. Honestly, I prefer a manual transmission but if you're going to get an automatic then I don't think a CVT should discourage you from buying a specific car, especially if it's a newer model. Like everything it depends on which make and model of car you want to get. I wouldn't say a CVT is a reliability issue, just test drive one and see if you like how it drives because it is a bit of a different driving experience than a normal automatic. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

    I recently installed a K&N full intake on my 2016 Chevy Silverado 5.3L. According to the supplied print out by K&N of an actual dyno test of my vehicle , the gain was about 8.3hp. The stock airbox is not really that restrictive, it just has a large reservoir to quiet the airflow before entering the throttle body and the intake manifold plenum. Naysayers aside, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY, an engine could loose hp by installing a quality air intake like a K&N, Volant, Banks, etc. Since an engine is basically a high pressure air pump, basic physics dictates that the more air you can force into a engine the better, this is why superchargers and turbos work so well. Now on some applications like NA 4 cyl engines the gain may be very minimal and not near as much as a V6 or V8 engine, but again, you certainly won't loose hp. Be sure and use a reputable brand like those listed above and avoid buying no name junk from sites like Ebay.

    What you had was a CAI stock, what you have now is not. I have seen a lot of tests on these filters and have used them in the distant past on racecars. They are designed to increase airflow/horsepower at the expense of filtration. OEMs spend billions on engineering their cars, why don't they use these filters?? Because they have to warranty their products. I understand using this type of filter element on a race car, I don't get the point on a 150hp. daily driver.

      Yeah definitely go for it! Just make sure you have the right tools first, nothing worse than starting the project and realizing that you don't have a tool. Other than that it depends on your car make. For example I know hondas and subarus aren't too intake modification friendly and may need a tune after installation where as nissans for example should auto adjust for the increased air flow, at least the newer models. Just some things I've heard from other people that have installed this on other cars. Very simple install though, definitely really happy with it.

    ive had it in my car for over a year now and my check engine light is on, i had to take it out to pass inspection and it came back on after it was reinstalled it, is your light on?

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +RockSteady67 No I've had mine for almost exactly a year now and I haven't had any problems with the check engine light. Did you check what the code was when the light came on?

    • @rocksteady6793
      @rocksteady6793 8 років тому

      +AsphaltRequired no i dont know anything about cars lol when i took it to the mechanic he said theres no way to clear it except take it out and it will be clear for the first 50 miles but then the light will come on again, idk my car is a 2011 maybe somethings different

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +RockSteady67 If you still have the intake installed, next time the light comes on take your car to like an autozone or an advance auto parts store and they will do a free diagnostic scan and tell you the code which is causing the check engine light to turn on. Then you will know if it has anything to do with your intake.

    • @rocksteady6793
      @rocksteady6793 8 років тому

      +AsphaltRequired its definitely the intake and the light just stays on, it used to go on and off shortly but its been permanent now, the mechanic explained to me that the car cant compute all the extra air coming in so its causing the light just weird that it would happen to mine and not everyones if that's true so idk lol the car runs good i love it

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +RockSteady67 Ahhh I see. It's probably something up with your ECU. Nissans are usually good with the ECU auto adjusting to the increased air flow after installing an intake, especially on newer cars. On other cars that are finicky with that, you have to take it into a performance shop to get it tuned. Your car is fairly new since it's a 2011 but I'm not sure if your ECU auto adjusts (I think it should) or was ever reprogrammed. You might need to go reflash your ECU.

    did you watch this video ua-cam.com/video/gCi2yo4UqPI/v-deo.html
    just curious what your thoughts are. I was thinking of going with the K&N typhoon until i saw that video. seems like aftermarket intakes are just to increase the sound under the hood and do nothing for hp gains. they might even decrease performance.

    • @asphaltrequired3708
      @asphaltrequired3708  8 років тому

      +Zachary Symmes Yeah I did see that video, I actually watched the same video before I got mine. I love those guys at Mighty Car Mods! Yeah you're not going to see any big gains by installing a cold air intake on a naturally aspirated engine over the stock air box. The only time that you would really need to change the intake is if you're installing a turbo or supercharger kit to really see a difference. It won't decrease your performance unless you have no heat shield and your intake is baking next to your engine, but the K&N intake comes with a pretty good heat shield. But yeah overall I think you'll get some power gain but it won't be very noticeable, but it does sounds amazing at higher RPMs.

      +corey chambers Yeah I'd rather just buy a new filter than spend time cleaning it. Although on the K&N website it says that unless you're driving in extreme conditions, you don't really need to clean the conical style filters for up to 100,000 miles.

    im gonna let you geniuses in on somthing, if the intake filter is located in the engine bay it is NOT a cold air intake. "heat shield" or not, its sucking in hot air from the engine, if you dont get a long ram intake just save your money and keep it stock!

      Wrong!! The short tube kit is a little better. I'll explain: Thing is, with say...the stillen long tube , that has the air filters resting on top the crash bar, Is less effective due to the fact it utilizes chrome plated steel tubing that holds heat, running the entire length of the engine bay, how ever the location of the air filters is not relevant to this application explanation.
      As for the short tube kit, K&N with heat shield. Well, yes the actual air filters are inside the engine bay, but the air tubes are anodized aluminum, which aluminum dispels heat more efficiently then chrome plated steel, Now you claim engine bay heat is being pulled in, Wrong. The K&N kit situates the air filters right in front of the core support cold air circulation cut-out ports, with the heatshield acting as a effective air foil only allowing the draw of cold fresh air immediately to the air filters.
      The only way that engine bay heat could effect the K&N short tube kit, is when you are sitting still idling and the same thing could be said for the stillen kit as well. Remember you are in motion when driving causing severe air turbulence in the engine bay.
      How ever, both kits will have a certain degree of variant heat soaking, Both kits are a modification that will have similar results, but one kit is more efficient at avoiding radiant heat.
      This explanation applies to my situation with my 2015 Nissan 370z, with dual intakes. Your particular application may be different.
