Quite unbelievable how his return was welcomed after faking a terminal illness, if he did this in 2022, he surely wouldn’t have been as successful with it.
@Treel because he didnt do anything wrong. he's allowed to lie to as many anonymous people on the internet as he feels like. people need to grow the fuck up and stop acting like unforgiving fundamentalist christians. who gives a fuck if someone you knew died from an illness. him faking one isnt taking advantage or making light if it. he did something truly unique and pulled it off for years and then had a fun way of coming back. i swear the kids on the internet now are a different fucking breed of soft and easily "outraged". grow a fucking pair
Someone named a separate weapon that as a joke (the dead ringer). That weapon never had anything to with sketchek and it was actually the axtinguisher, the speed boost stat of which was dubbed ‘sketchek’s bequest’ tho that subtitles now been removed.
the best thing about this is that the item shown with "Sketchek's bequest" as it's name is a dead ringer, an invisibility watch for the spy that allows you to.. you guessed it, fake your death.
it was on the axtinguisher because he was a pyro player that made axtinguisher montages so thats why the game tributed him to the axtinguisher pyro weapon

"Cloak Type: Feign Death" "Leave a fake corpse upon taking damage and temporarily gain invisibility, speed and damage resistance" yeah, sounds about right
The only credit I give him is that he could've continued the lie and explained his return by saying he miraculously recovered. It doesn't forgive the situation in its entirety but coming clean helps people forgive mistakes.
He could have also stuck closer to the truth and say he was addicted and needed to take extreme measures to stop playing and not having the addiction ruin his life. Plus, he could have been afraid that people would try to beg him to return.
The opposite happened to me, kinda. After my best friend died, I was in a dark place. I made a video for the channel just in case that I'd ever die unexpectedly. I scheduled it to one year in advance, planning to renew it by another year every time. But I forgot about it. So...for a short moment almost 200 viewers of that video thought I had died - while I was sleeping at home. God, that was embarassing.
@@craigbaker593 Have you ever seen 200 people in a room together? I think people on the internet forget very fast what numbers actually look like in person. Everything under 100k isn't big for them. All it takes is literally one single person to care and your question would be invalid.
This actually drives home a point. Internet relationships (whether they be one sided hypothetical relationships with a content creator, online friends on discord, or just people you know on the internet) are very fragile. In the sense that, if someone suddenly stops all online activity, you have no way of knowing what actually happened to them. It's kind of sad to think that something like this might happen to some of us in the days to come, and none of us would be any the wiser about what happened to them. It's kind of sad.
Happened to me and a friend. We had a group chat of 3 friends and out of the three of us, me and A lived the closest. E lived across the country. A came into the groupchat one night saying some VERY concerning suicidal stuff, and then suddenly disappeared without any context. Nothing. Gone. I reached out on every platform I could think of, I was either blocked on everything or they deleted everything. I was on the verge of a panic attack, my friend E WAS panicking and I was about to call the police because I knew the general area they lived in. Then, A comes back acting like nothing happened at all and treats it as a joke. I still carry a lot of resentment against A for that, even if we are still friends
If this was a hated channel who faked their death and came back like that, there would be outrage. I can't believe this guy got away with pretending to be terminally ill, worrying his fans. He should've just been honest at the start, it's really not that hard.
People do mistakes, most of the time it's minor but every once in a while you do a large fuck-up that you remember for your whole life. This is one of them.
like the other person replied, sometimes you do things you really shouldn’t, and can’t take back what you said/did and it makes it really hard to just say “hey i didn’t mean it” while also knowing the longer you wait the worse it will be
I personally don't think he should've lied about being dead in the first place. He could've simply left UA-cam or made an update video explaining that he wasn't interested in making videos anymore. He disregarded the feelings of his fans who were worried, upset and felt grief.
Pretty sure him coming back and owning up to lying before anyone called him out is why his channel didn't die like other scammers. Telling the truth versus trying to lie your way out of something goes a long way. But that's just my guess.
Well considering that none of the movements prior to the "sketchek confirmed" video were considered as the smoking gun so to speak he could've still come out saying "hey y'all so I somehow beat the odds and managed to recover but due to what I experienced I decided to quit for awhile to enjoy life" or something of the sort and I don't think the community would've batted an eyelid over it
with no reason to lie makes him a very unreliable, and untrusted youtuber. someone I wouldn't ever watch or think about welcoming back no matter how good they are.
He probably felt guilty over the years faking his illness. Then the "Sketchek's Bequest" part on one of the items in-game (Axtinguisher/Postal Pummeler weapon) probably solidified his decision to just tell the truth.

What people don’t realize is the tf2 community had bad abandonment issues. Had sketcheck been honest, he would have gotten a ton of hate and harassment. Ironically the only way for the community to remember him as positively as they did was for him to die. And I think understanding that makes his decision a lot more understandable.
and i say fuck to all that. if i was in his shoes, and they were going to hate me for leaving, then i would just be extra motivated to leave as fast as possible. why should you be concerned about how a toxic fanbase thinks about you?
You shouldn’t have to lie about a terminal illness to maintain your reputation. If he was going to leave anyways, his reputation shouldn’t have even been a big contributing factor. He could have easily just left without a word.
Small note: Sketchek's Bequest isn't the name of an item, it's the name of a stat that was added to his signature weapon. There is, however, an item in the game that lets you feign your death, and some players titled that item after Sketchek as a joke after he came back
As someone who has been in the TF2 community for a long time I can confidently say a large majority of people watching TF2 youtubers are beyond unhinged and have no sense of boundaries. Had he just quit his audience would have thrown a fit, I don't agree with him faking his death, but having seen other TF2 youtuber's audiences do a total 180 on them and become almost hostile because they either want to branch out, or got bored with TF2. If it's to be believed that he felt videogames were ruining his life, it's probably true he was suffering from some degree of mental illness, and I can sort of understand why he would lie about his leaving, especially if he's seen other people in the community face backlash for not wanting to play the game anymore. I think the the terms of morality on youtube, stating you have a terminal illness of some sort isn't the worst thing anyone could do. I don't like the fact that he had donations on his channel, that's really scummy in my opinion. However this doesn't really hurt as many people as some of the awful stuff other youtubers have done (scams, false flags, child exploitation etc)
Internet went from 2012-2019 being the extremely harsh/horrible levels of dark humor with no boundaries, to 2020-2022 where everyone gets too sensitive and has to share their opinion on any matter. It just sounds like Sketchek said, it was a horrible joke, but when he made those vids saying «un named terminal illness» or whatever, atleast he pulled his sick joke by vaguely mentioning shit and letting the fanbase build the rest of that story in their imagination. I feel like it would’ve been a lot worse if he genuinely faked cancer or ALS or named an illness that people have lost lives to. I remember being a teen online 2012-2017, it was so fucking normal for people to say «get cancer you fucking loser» as like an attempt at dark humor, but now that shit just feels so childish because most of us grew up beyond that.
I honestly am not mad at the "terminal illness" lie, its only truely only a lie, and he even apologized, people where just mad because they god offended, at least he didn't lie about having cancer or any advanced organ diseases, he just needed a break and thats what he got, maybe he didn't deliver it correctly but you cant get mad at someone wanting attention, its what humans are built around, a social life, and attention can give you one.
Seeing those tweets and comments in the video, I believe you about the audience being unhinged. I completely understand getting emotional because someone (even a stranger) is dying young, and unexpectedly, but some of those people are lunatics. They're talking about his impact on their lives as if they knew him personally. You just watched him play video games not solve world hunger. Goddamn. Get some perspective, people!
Definitely messed up of him to fake a terminal illness and death especially considering how dedicated his fans were but I also feel bad because once you do something like that its really difficult to prove that you’ve changed even if you have. And nobody owes you forgiveness.
Yeah I do think he did something messed up but it's a lot better to come clean and apologize than to lie your way out it. I feel like that shows honesty and guilt. I like your pfp and name btw :D
imagine your response to your favorite content creator not actually being dead is "im extremely dissapointed". I respect his decision cuz in the end, if he wouldve just went "im quitting gaming cuz its destroying my life bye" then people wouldve been spamming him 24/7 saying he should return.
I guess we're all just too used with influencers faking their saddness and keep lying about things making his return with truth yet bitter taste a bit refreshing.. atleast thats imo
I would like to point out as someone who drenched themselves in the tf2 community for years, that tf2 fans have a bad habit of turning on creators who leave the community to do other things and other games. A lot of tf2 fans seem to think if a creator got their start through tf2, they now belong to tf2 forever and can't do anything else or they are abandoning and failing the community that made them popular in the first place. Since there's a lot of toxic fans like that there would be a pressure to not be honest. The community might turn on him as quickly as they did to people like STAR_. Dying seems like he would go through a lot less drama in the short term since no one could really get mad at someone leaving tf2 for that reason.
Generally, there is a certain portion of the TF2 community that is very boisterous and toxic in this regard. A lot of complaining for any dumb reason. We shouldn't give any cares as to what they supposedly think.
@@rainchopper898 I feel like what you're saying is very easy for someone like you or me, but for major content creators who get thousands of eyes on them, they're going to have to deal with more serious harassment than some mean words like doxing, and even insane people calling their place of work to try to get them fired. Do you even know what it's like to be popular enough that that kind of harassment is pretty much a given? It's not nearly as easy to ignore as you think. It's not the same as somebody just leaving you an angry comment which can be easily ignored. It's thousands of people ganging together trying to dog pile and destroy you in any way possible. I feel like when you don't deal with that sort of level of harassment that comes from popularity it's really easy to try to play a moral high ground and just be like, "ignore it." cause they've never had a crazy fan going to their grandmother's Facebook page to harrass their family, or call their job lying and saying they've been stealing, or calling the police to swat their house. There's a genuine lack of safety when there's so many eyes on you.
Exactly, remember when Muselk used to play TF2 and got a ton of backlash to switching to OverWatch and then Fortnite later. The TF2 community is genuinely one of the most toxic fanbases out there as we feel we are entitled to everything, literally scroll r/TF2 for 10 seconds and you'll find someone complaining.
For those of you who don't play TF2, there was never an item memorializing Sketchek, there was a line with an effect added to his favorite melee weapon. The item stats that SunnyV2 used were for a spy weapon called the dead ringer which is used to fake your own death.
Specifically, that item is the Axtinguisher for the Pyro. The Axtinguisher does less damage than the normal fireaxe, but deals a guaranteed crit on burning enemies, at the cost of extinguishing them. The effect is "Hitting an enemy with afterburn deals additional damage based on the amount of afterburn time remaining." This is in addition to the Crit, by the way.
This is sickening. After seeing that Technoblade has died, this is truly disgusting. People claiming to have terminal illnesses for clout is absolutely terrible, diseases are not something to play with. Edit: MOM IM FAMOUS Edit 2: I didn’t make this comment because I’ve seen Techno’s death before this, I saw this video way before he died. I wrote it because seeing someone die was the last straw when it came to making a light matter of such things. It was never moral of Sketchek to do such crazy bullshit, or of anyone to ever do this kind of crazy shit. You can’t cover his shit up with “It was a prank” or any bullshit excuse, what Sketchek did is down to fucking horrible. And to the people who said he didn’t do it for clout, you must’ve not watched the video fully or didn’t pay attention. Why go out with a bang? He EXPLICITLY SAID THAT HE WANTED TO GO WITH A BANG! FOR WHAT?! Well, obviously, if you could listen, you could’ve picked up it was for FUCKING ATTENTION. Guess you ain’t got no one to be on the same page nowadays, huh?
was looking for this comment. it’s disgusting that he faked his illness and death for attention, when in reality, terminal illness is serious and this kind of loss greatly affects the community
RIP Technoblade. He was truly amazing. I barely even know him, but I can say confidently he loved his fanbase. He was a sweet guy. I dislike how people are 'Memeing' it. He was a real person. The pain in his father's voice. You will be missed, Technoblade never dies. Sketchek is gross and should've never done this. Terminal illnesses is not a joke.
Watching all tributes people make.. Wouldn't that make someone feel guilty? Seeing how devestated people are? And he's like "jk lol, I'm alive" Gosh it's frustrating
It wasn’t “jk lol” it was more like he realised how wrong it was and he could no longer lie about it. He felt guilty because he knew it was wrong. I’d much rather someone pretend to die and then admit they lied, than actually tragically die.
No one is entitled to feel bad for you, even if they caused it. Maybe.. maybe if people didn’t get so emotionally invested in the internet they wouldn’t be taken advantage o…🤔
It's kind of baffling that this is was even debated at all among the community. Beloved or not, this dude casually faked having a terminal illness just because he "wanted to go out with a bang", something that's incredibly disingenuous and extremely gross to be regarding so flagrantly. I know that people can change and it could have been a matter of him regretting his action years later, a lot can change even in 3 years, but from the video played it doesn't seem like that, it just seems like a casual shrug like "oh btw i faked my illness but i wanna make videos again haha". It tells me that he didn't really understand the gravity of what he had done at the time, even after three years of letting it settle in. Although I think the thing that really cements how this wasn't him realizing he'd fucked up was him making some spooky ARG out of his return like he was being fun and cheeky.
Plus turning it into an ARG makes it feel more calculated, i get the feeling he did that to hype up his channel again in the hopes that he wouldn't loose too many fans and i guess it worked
@@silverwatermermaid1563 Exactly. This whole thing just feels like he didn't fully understand the gravity of what he'd done, and he didn't take it seriously.
@@TheGaming100 I mean, sure, I'm glad he's not *dead,* this is technically the more preferable outcome to that, but that doesn't somehow absolve him of doing something fucked up. Just because one is worse doesn't make the other not bad.
I think he didn't completely ruin his career because it wasn't that big to begin with. If he had been a bigger UA-camr with a wider audience, he would've been canceled immediately and his career would've taken a huge hit. However since he had a very specific niche and his face wasn't attached to his content at all but rather the game and his skills, it makes sense that the community would just keep watching him.
pretty sure if a bigger youtuber wanted to escape the youtube life then he wouldnt care if he got “cancelled” or what. also cancelled is stupid af cus if you only get cancelled if you let yourself get cancelled. meaning only pussies get cancelled. just the truth
@@shallchairsitfallen No, he didn't upload because he ditched his sketchek persona and became a vtuber. I'm most definitely sure he is Sonny Brisko from Nijisanji EN, since their voices are exactly the same. Bro faked an illness and is still earning thousands every day...
to be fair, if he was play enough video games to ruin his life he might have actually been suffering from addiction. addicts lie all the time, it's a symptom and lying to put yourself in a position to get away from whatever is hurting you is ultimately healthy. If faking his death actually saved him I wouldn't hold it against him.
That would just mean that him returning, and the boost in his viewership - are the worst possible outcome. We're describing a powerful relapse into an addiction that made the man fake his own death. What's he going to do, this time?
I feel conflicted on the effort he put into coming back, the whole mystery he created and hunt he sent people on is honestly cool, but I can’t tell if it comes off as giving the people who really cared something as an apology, or still seeing the whole thing as a game. I can’t get a read on this guys current empathy level, but obviously in the past it was pretty low.

I don't know anything about this guy and I just randomly came across this video but I can't understand why people would be willing to forgive him. It doesn't sound like a genuine apology at all. In fact, his return comes across as performative. Like the arg itself is very telling of his attention-seeking personality. It was honestly cringey and narcissistic.
I never really knew Sketchek back in those days, but my fucking heart sank when Kitty was mentioned :( Elliot goes to school and the other projects kitty worked on were amazing to me! Even to this day i find myself sometimes thinking of clips from the old uploads and referencing them. It delights me to see after all these years, Kitty is still remembered!
rest in peace kitty0706 i still find myself rewatching the various elliot videos and moments with heavy because they were some of the best out there, not to even mention team fabulous 2.
The one thing that threw me off was the fact that he was so calm recording those videos. I know I'd be bawling my eyes out talking about something like this but that could just be me.
I think he was mainly accepted back because he came clean about everything. He literally could've just popped back on UA-cam and been like "hey I beat my illness" and maybe even gone a step further and explain what the "illness" was in order to make his story more believable. But he didn't, and instead explained what he did. I'm not excusing his actions, and coming clean about something isn't enough in any way shape or form, but it is more than a lot of other content creators can say after they do something along the lines of this, or elaborate lies and stuff like that. He wasn't even pressured into coming clean either and did it fully out of his own free will, which I think earned him some bonus points in the community. Once again tho, doesn't excuse what he did.
I honestly think he was just paranoid that his fans would hate him for quitting, and he tried to get away from the channel in a way where he wouldn’t receive hate. Turns out he got more hate than what he would’ve if he just said he’s quitting.
I'm pissed because I do understand what he meant by the whole "video games ruined my life" and how awful something like that might feel, but he should have just come and said that outright. He lied about having a terminal illness and that's just wrong. Even if he hadn't opened his channel for support and thus not made any money off of it, he still lied about it, and I don't think he should just be welcomed back with open arms because of it..
I don't get how he didn't think that would have been an acceptable way to quit. Maybe he just had no intention of coming back at the time, so he didn't care about his reputation. He could have just made some kind of rage video being like "Fuck it, I hate video games they're ruining my life. I quit." and it would probably give the shock factor he wanted without being deceptive.
I understand, but you underestimate the TF2 community. I've been here for a while now, and every other sunday a content creator is under attack. He probably wanted to avoid that, but didn't really do it in a great way. I don't hate him though
I also dont like the fact that people's first reaction was "Why did you lie" rather than "omg he was actually fine". Feels like people only liked seeing him when he was uploading and we he stopped they felt that being empathetic about it was a moral obligation not a genuine reaction.
He straight up couldve vanished without a word for years and THEN start the hunt with secret codes. THAT would have been infinitely better than the shit he pulled. I still can't believe he got away with it. People are so weirdly ready to forgive anything a person does if "They are the best at the game" but I say fuck that. Being a god at a game does not excuse genuinely shitty behaviour. Edit: I didn't think my comment would get this much attention, this is fun to read. That is all.
I didnt forgive him for his talent. He was never a "personality" youtuber. you watched the channel for the clips, not the user behind it, so it didn't emotionally affect me as I wasn't emotionally attached in the first place. its simply up to how emotional you are. he had no intention to gain anything from the whole event, hell, asked you to unsubscribe.
Sadly this didn't talk about the other side of the coin as for the reason why this happened, where he was kicked out of his house for being a video game NEET and thought video games were ruining his life. Then had to spend a year or 2 wandering Japan as a hikki until he was basically saved by a friend. There are reasons why some people go off the deep end at times and I am just happy he is doing well mentally these days. I do agree he should have been just straightforward and admitted to the reason why he had to leave, I think people would have been quite understanding and empathetic. But young edgy teens on the internet thought "going out with a bang" like that was the thing to do. Internet culture can be quite the drug.
had no idea about the hikki part, can't help but feel for him with that type of isolation, happy to hear a friend helped him there. also really well put abt internet fame, v v true
I think times have changed from the early 2010's Internet culture wise. As we can see here from the wide-ranging sentiment that faking chronic illness is a bad thing otherwise. Sketchek talked in his apology video wanting to make it as hard as possible to come back as at the time he left he thought that the video game addiction he had was ruining his life as I said earlier. The point I do want to make is, today 2022-wise people are much more accepting of mental health issues and saying "hey my parents are kicking me out of the house, I won't have access to the internet in a stable manner for a long time and I need time for myself to get better" I think folks will understand. But from what I gathered, the TF2 fanbase at the time would probably had just made fun of it or whatever. Which is why if you look for his Sketchek content nowadays it's been scrubbed by him. He wanted a fresh start away from all this drama, and I am quite happy that he is at a better place living plus mental health wise, and with what content he is creating nowadays.
What if I told you, he lied about all of that? That it was just a sick joke and to manipulate the narrative to bring in more viewers. You're just basing what he's saying, considering faking his own death, his words coming back should have always been presented has such, take it as a grain of salt. Yet stans ate that up without question.
@@sdfsdf2205 Honestly, you can get into quite the rabbit hole if you want to research as to why this isn't a lie. Like it's scary how much folks have dug up about this and him since March of this year. Hence why I'm just happy he's moved on from this and is doing more diverse content nowadays. At the same time the irony of SunnyV2 being the one making another video about sketchek made me laugh a lot.
Wild theory: His terminal illness was depression, which led him thinking about taking is own life. Eventually got away from video games had a good experience in Japan, decided not to kill self and was left with telling people about his struggles or just be like “yeah it was just a joke”
Hmmmm makes sense. I mean someone with depression probably doesn't wanna talk about it. Probably wants to just move on to the better times. Fact is he wants to move on and it's best we just remember him for the best times he gave.
@@cuntpoopoo2968 lol fair enough. It just came in the theory because in the video he says he was having a great time in Japan and stopped playing at that time.
thats what i was thinking as well.. but "ohh he did it for attention," and such.. maybe this reaction proves him right for putting it as a physical illness instead of mental illness. it isnt as much of a wild theory as a plainly logical theory, but people just write off mental health as an aspect.
Perhaps he had depression, definitely was in a bad mental place, but in Japan he actually was kicked out of the house and was sort of homeless for a year or two and severe social anxiety + sorta language barrier kept him from working and he wandered until a friend helped get him turned around again
That would have been morally reprehensible though. He sounds like a pretty genuine person who made a shitty decision at a major turning point in his life.
He could've left the UA-cam community by just being honest about how he actually felt, not faking some terminal illness. Seriously, it's one of the dumbest reasons to fake a terminal illness.
I think at the time the TF2 community was a lot more toxic and those that attempted to leave it struggled. I think a channel named Ster_ had issues, but I don’t remember well
TF2 is a game that’s even harder to hold an audience upon switching to a new game than League of Legends. Not only that, but the TF2 community on UA-cam is absolutely deranged and will piss themselves every time they believe a TF2ber is going to quit creating and publishing TF2 content.
@@abird7833 poor Ster, hated because he wanted to stop playing a video game and play the next one; its like the community can't accept that their game isn't the main focus of people's lives sometimes
I’m ok with with accepting that he made a mistake, except for the fact that he opened donations after his announcement. I think he should have donated anything that he revived to charity
If you don't like how he uses the money you donated, maybe you shouldn't be donating... You know, in the similar vein, if you don't like that the hobo you gave $20 to went ahead and bought a bottle of vodka, maybe you shouldn't be giving him any money... Charities are a joke and help noone. If you cared about the hobo you'd call the police (to help get him where he needs to be) and pay the bills for his rehabilitation. Neither a loaf of bread nor $20 nor an used jacket will help the hobo, because him not having any of those is not the problem. Literally anyone can acquire these things if they put some effort into it, and supporting a nation financially that only drives itself further into debt only fuels its self destructive behaviours, instead of you know, actually improving things. If you want to help anyone, maybe go buy a cessna and fly it into a governmental building or two. And if you think I'm an asshole, go look at egypt, country where people work for like $130/month while its leaders are planning to build a monorail worth billions of dollars. And in case you didn't know why that's a bad thing... Well, ignoring the fact that people in question will not be able to afford a ticket, I'm just going to let you know that monorail is a joke and a normal tram/train/metro is all you need. Judging from his reasoning of "video games ruined my life" he probably believed that all the time he put in to his youtube channel was pointless so he didn't care to do a little bit of trolling unknowingly disregarding the parasocial relationship that his audience had with him. He was a young man trying to find his way and made a mistake as he did so but along the way he realized that what he did was wrong and put the truth out there. That is all that matters.

I couldn't believe how many people treated this like the second coming of Christ. What made me scratch my head the most were the morons giving him support as if the offended people were being unreasonable. Of course, these comments were always paired with requests for more videos. A couple minutes of entertainment every few weeks is all they truly cared about. If Sketchek said he was dying and then quit immediately, I'd understand the stupid mistake behind it. It is so interesting to know that, throughout history, some people do this. Some people disappear out of the blue because they rationally decided to. Some fake their own death because they rationally decided to. Some people change names and go live a different live altogether because they rationally decided to. I am a disinterested party here, I wasn't affected by what he did, so I don't feel anything really. Other than curiosity. What goes on inside these people's head?

Now, I don’t know what this guy was thinking, but he shouldn’t have revealed he was alive. Even if he did, he shouldn’t have made it like a joke and something more serious.
I disagree. As scummy as the original lie was, not owning up to it unprompted would’ve been waaaay worse (even with it not being solely out of a guilty conscience). Although I do agree his unserious delivery isn’t doing him any favors.
Bruh I would never joke about that stuff just because I’m scared if I do I’ll make it a reality and if it does become reality it’s probably well deserved
He technically never claimed to have died, as he said even if he had survived he would not make videos. But with a terminal illness the chances are slim. It still sucks that he faked being ill. That’s very low
I think what makes it really messed up is that he got a lot out of this. He got to see all the tears people cried, got all the tributes, and probably did get some amount of money out of it. Also, he didn't just fake his death, but faked a terminal illness and dragged it out. It wasn't just he poofed one day and nothing more. He dragged it out and got a lot out of it. That's what makes it worse than "jokingly" faking your own death. I mean doing it general is bad, but he made it way worse than it had to be.

He also stated that he did the whole faked death because he wanted to make it really hard to start playing and uploading again, burning the bridge so to speak.
I can only assume that his channel is still doing fine because it werent created based on his personality, but rather his skill. The TF2 community always had quite a bit of a parasocial relationship with its content creators, they’d gladly welcome any new up and coming creator but end up turning on them if they decided to branch out in terms of content. It’s thankfully more forgiving now but I remember back then when people were harassing creators like Ster_, Jerma, Muselk for essentially ‘abandoning’ them like the TF2 devs did. So maybe it’s this mentality that led Sketchek to fake his death.

This is honestly a mockery to those who have lost family and friends to terminal illnesses and have lost their lives to their illness. Those people can't just pick and choose when to have their illness and whether to come back from it. They have to live the rest of their short life in pain, in debt, and in fear of one day never waking up or being able to live out the rest of their lives and thinking of the what ifs. Losing someone to a terminal illness can also be just as devastating emotionally and financially and it's honestly the worst feeling that can ever be felt. Genuinely, this person is horrible. He didn't even seem remorseful of what he's done, nor did I hear one genuine apology from this person and treated it as a joke. Disgusting.
He did apologize in a video and on stream because he was younger and dumber and felt terrible doing so, he hasn't uploaded/stream in a while but he is generally accepted again fully by the community after apologizing about what he did. Happened to me and a friend. We had a group chat of 3 friends and out of the three of us, me and A lived the closest. E lived across the country. A came into the groupchat one night saying some VERY concerning suicidal stuff, and then suddenly disappeared without any context. Nothing. Gone.

Seeing those tweets and comments in the video, I believe you about the audience being unhinged.
Thank you! proves that tf2 community is not as good as they say
The problem is that he faked a terminal illness just to get away from the game.
With everything going on in Nijisanji, dude has a once in a lifetime chance to do the most hilarious thing ever.
BIG BRAIN MOMENT
Twice in a lifetime.
For those of you who don't play TF2, there was never an item memorializing Sketchek, there was a line with an effect added to his favorite melee weapon. The item stats that SunnyV2 used were for a spy weapon called the dead ringer which is used to fake your own death.
And a player named the weapon Sketcheks Bequest as a joke due to the weapon allowing the user to feignt their death

It's kind of baffling that this is was even debated at all among the community. I know that people can change and it could have been a matter of him regretting his action years later, a lot can change even in 3 years, but from the video played it doesn't seem like that, it just seems like a casual shrug like "oh btw i faked my illness but i wanna make videos again haha". @@inbeing3464 kind of dumb of you to say because you could just explain that without being rude about it
I think he was mainly accepted back because he came clean about everything. I don't get how he didn't think that would have been an acceptable way to quit. Maybe he just had no intention of coming back at the time, so he didn't care about his reputation. He could have just made some kind of rage video being like "Fuck it, I hate video games they're ruining my life.

He was a young man trying to find his way and made a mistake as he did so but along the way he realized that what he did was wrong and put the truth out there. That is all that matters.
Sorry for going off-topic but I really like your DIO pfp :D

Yeah, and I think in that situation it sort of makes sense why he'd enable donations as well. He probably felt he wasn't getting anything back from the TF2 community.
No that's not all that matters. If you come clean about mølesting someone, does that suddenly make it okay?
Screw him. I don't wish him physical harm, but i do hope his channel dies and his name is forgotten. This dude is clearly addicted to attention, don't give him any
@@SilentForrest There are some things that are forgivable and some that aren't I understand that but I don't think in this scenario that he has done something completely irredeemable. Whether or not you believe he was genuine in his apology is completely different. I try to stay away from very pessimistic assumptions about others because of how that distrust would affect society if we all did it as a whole but, I can very well see that this may be a person who is addicted to attention.
This was much more drawn out. Calculated. His apology sounded so sincere because he wanted an audience again. People forgave him not because it was the right thing to do, but because of what they would get in return: content.

The easier option in that situation would be to lay low or just play into the lie of "oh I got better"
this isn't like with most twitter/youtube drama, noone was outting him as a terrible person, he chose of his own volition to admit wrongdoing and apologize
What goes on inside these people's head?
i feel like it's done for attention a lot of the time - when someone dies, they get talked about, praised, and missed so much in the aftermath. it makes sense how some people would want to witness that if given the opportunity
In this case it almost certainly wasn’t done for attention. But everything about the plan was so half-baked and stupid that it got attention. He should have just turned off comments on all his socials and left, like how his channel is now.
I mean many people were not affected by it but still think it's a shitty thing to do, he had donations from people who really cared about him, something doesn't need to affect you to know how low you need to be to actually do what he did

I mean doing it general is bad, but he made it way worse than it had to be.

when you have friends with an illness that stops them from playing with you, you start to have a deep understanding why these kind of manipulations really suck
He also stated that he did the whole faked death because he wanted to make it really hard to start playing and uploading again, burning the bridge so to speak.
it takes alot of guts to own up to something like this. especially when it was such a HUGE mistake. i dont know how to feel about it really
I can only assume that his channel is still doing fine because it werent created based on his personality, but rather his skill. If you watch someone for their personality, you slowly begin to get to know them and from there see them as a friend (Even if they arent). So, if someone you watch for their personality lies about shit like this, it feels like much more of a betrayal.

💯
I mean, Muselk did become money hungry.
Wouldn't be surprised. Especially since mentioning these issues in the first place would get you effectively mobbed. There's a fairly high chance that he did this because he didn't see another way out.

(And as he said he had a mental health problem and felt like games were ruining his life and tried to make it as hard as possible to return to gaming)
I'll let you decide for yourself if he deserve returning or not but it is what it is
It's not just the fact he faked his death, it's the fact he played and toyed with the emotions of his community, which to me is unforgivable.
