- Please accept my apologies for some reason this video will not upload in HD.
Hello and welcome to a new Piccadilly line video.
As always a huge THANK YOU to all my channel members for their ongoing support.
Toady's video starts at Hounslow West on the west heading around the Heathrow T4 loop before heading east to Cockfosters.
If you have not already done so please subscribe, hit that bell ironlike share and comment.
Thank you for watching and enjoy this video
Hi Dale. The book "London's Underground", by John Glover, explains the reason why the loop is long. Originally, the line to T2&3 was so positioned, because where T5 is, was where LUL thought T4 was going to be. So, it came as a surprise when T4 was announced on the south perimeter instead. That's one reason why the loop is so long, and straight. The other thing is, when building the loop, and T4 station, no materials or equipment, was allowed to be above a certain level, or be near the airport, in order to avoid interference with air traffic control radar. The line was built in such a way, to allow it to go away from the airport for a bit, where equipment for building the line could be, subsequently, removed safely, and securely.
Hope this does not sound loony lol, but I am two years post Cancer Surgery and still having a bit of a rough time. Your videos are something I look forward too every week and enjoy. Thank you for making the videos Dale. If you want to give me a shout out ( deathpod ) then that would be really cool lol. All the best and thanks again for the fantastic content.
I am so sorry to hear that.i wish you all the best. Of cause I can give you a shout out. It will be a couple of weeks or so. Take care
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Thanks Dale, I am all cured, just in recovery. Watching tube drivers is def a aid to recovery lol.
Whenever Dale mentions Knightsbridge, I think of my late mother who worked at Harrod’s.
Lets all have a mint every time Dale says "You lot"
Are you trying to bankrupt me 🤣🤣
Excellent presentation. Thank you. I am amazed that the management allows filming due to security. But I,m not in the British transport sector. But we are grateful for your wonderful insights ❤
Hello Dale. Happy to join you today. Thanks for the new video 😊
I was bothered that I didn't get it to play in HD-resolutions. Only after restarting YT, I read your message about it not uploading 😅. Anyway happy with a new video, thanks again! Take care.
Not sure what the issue with it is. Hopefully it is a one off. Tomorrows video is in HD
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Don't worry, it's a non-issue 😉 looking forward!
@@dalecharmantravels8057 did the video render in HD? (After editing)
I've had nothing but good experiences with Eva Air flying to Thailand on several occasions. 👍
I’ve not tried EVA air yet but want too
Some nice easy Sunday morning viewing to wake up to.
Thanks dale keep the vids coming 👍
Many thanks for the shout out! I’m platform staff for a TOC👍🏻
Another great video Dale and thank you for the shout out. You’re always very informative and full of information about the underground and the operation of it.
Friday here in Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 I'm loving your videos, Dale.
I'm a bit of an av geek too as i was on the first flight ✈️ with Qantas in 1975 after the Vietnam war on Operation Babylift
You can't retire Dale. Your being at work provides entertainment for people like myself who beat you to it!
The bank manager says I can’t retire either. Not sure it’s for the same reason though 🤣
Thats the rest of the day sorted. Thanks Dale
You are most welcome. Enjoy. I have a video for Sunday which I will release for members tomorrow or Friday so plenty to keep you occupied
Just a brilliant video great to watch. Keep them coming
I also like to say I enjoy your train videos along. Takes me back to being in London. We'll done.
Lovely dale! Just got off a picadilly line at hounslow east lol
Before I forget, belated best wishes to Sarah for her birthday last week! 🥳
Dale, might the 'parrots' near Hounslow Central have been parakeets? There were quite a number of them near to where I lived in London - they are very colourful, but noisy little beggars!
Oh, and yes, you're spot on in that the 'T' boards denoting the end of a speed restriction do indeed stand for its "Termination".
Anyway, thanks for another enjoyable video with your inimitable commentary and amusing quips. I think this one goes to show how the service can recover from delays when conditions permit, though I know it's not always straightforward.
To be fair I’m not sure what type of birds that are. I just know they are very colourful 🤣
Great upload just love watching these
The T board is something London Underground got from mainline railways. A sign of a good driver is one who anticipates signals and drives at a speed to keep the train moving. Passengers may comment to themselves if a train is slow but as long as it keeps moving between stations they don’t complain.
Great video as always, Dale. I'd love to see more of you starting/ending your shift, picking up your train or stabling at the different sidings and of course, if you get the chance to, some more unusual moves.
Almost every train I pick up at the start of my shift is on the platform at Cockfosters. The same when I end they are almost always in the depot at Cockfosters. Should any thing interesting happen I will try and film it. I think with the new timetable that starts at the end of the month we have a couple more trains that I would bring in to service from the depot.
Thanks Dale! Why don't TFL simply rename Heathrow T2&3 back to its original name of Heathrow Central? Without a T1 anymore, the current name sounds odd!
great seeing you Dale as ever...
As always love you videos mate I’m always interested in trains so I always love those videos. Thank you.
Thank you
Another awesome video dale, love it.
I knew it’d come! And it’d come in style. Amazing video.
No no no! You can't retire, we need you here.
Hi Dale great vid, was in London on the 11th Sept took the wife she wanted to go to Harrods so caught them pic line from Russell Square forgot how “Clanky” the 73 stock are😂 neither journey did we get the “Step. Free access” announcement so I knew it wasn’t you driving, took a video at Knightsbridge of the tube entering the station for posterity❤😊
I’m sorry you was not in my train. It must have ruined your trip 🤣🤣🤣
Listen, I was in the train behind trying to get you your coffee but for some reason the signals kept stopping us from catching up with you! 😉
Don’t worry about red signals. Coffee is far more important 🤣🤣
@@dalecharmantravels8057 i said that to the line controller but she just sighed and hung up on me
Great video dale
Another great video❤
@dalecharmantravels8057 Can't wait to watch it. When can I ride in the cab with you? Hopefully, next year, when I visit London from Toronto
great video man, thanks so much.
Cheers for the shout out dale 😀😀😀
Happy belated birthday Sarah!!
Thanks for the ride 😊😊
The river crossing just before Boston Manor is the River Brent.
Brilliant again mate
Speaking of coffee...are you allowed to have a drink of some sort in the cab with you? Or would there be a danger of spilling it over the controls?.Very enjoyable as always. Thanks Dale...all the best.
Good to see you dale
A other brilliant video as usual. Regardless if it not in HD so stop worrying
Indeed - "Pitch black in the tunnels .... in crystal clear HD quality - lol" _We love you, Dale_
Another great Video Dale, hope all is well for you mate
I am good thank you. I hope your week is going well
Yes all good, all the better for seeing your videos mate
Do you know what Dale, there isn't anyone who has a bad word to say about you mate m, you are one of the worlds top people
Evening sorted! Looking forward to watching later! Do you know if the video is stuck processing? I can only seem to watch in 360p.
For some reason it’s not showing in HD. I’m at work so will have a look at it tomorrow. I may have to delete it and re upload it. Sorry about this
Another day with DC. The closest thing we have to a similar service to tube trains is our Metro ( Aussie here ). Its always unqiue and interesting how other systems work around the world.
Piccadilly Line 1973 Tube Stock
1973, so what do the replace? or is the same since 1973?. thanks.
The 1973 stock has been in service since around 1975
To me, I feel like the T on the T boards would probably mean “Train speed” allowing you to go up to the maximum allowed speed for your train.
Parakeets are the small green ones.
I never got the congrats shout out for when I became a uncle
Good Job Dale
Another great video, pitty it's only 360P
There is also a Transport museum in Covent Garden too that's worth visiting
The one at Acton Town is better if you like old railway stuff from signs to tubes. They also have some great old London busses
Agreed!
@@dalecharmantravels8057
Acton Town is the depot belonging to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, they’re the same organisation. I’d love to go to a depot open day sometime.
@@mouselovinlady makes sense! I thought it was owned by them, thanks 😊
Might be worth a re-up? I'm too spoilt for 360p!
I have tried but it wasn’t having any of it. It seems to be a one off glitch some where. The next video is in HD as normal
Hi Dale another great video. 2 Qs for you if you don’t mind. 1. Are you licensed to drive any other lines? 2. Will you be taking us with you for the training on the new trains. All the best.
I am only licences for the pic line and the 73 stock trains. Sadly I won’t be able to film the training on the new trains.
Haha I'm in Howick in KwaZulu-Natal, south Africa
Sarah has the same birthday as me
Hi Dale great video as usual, I would love a shout out if possible I used to be a bus driver in South Yorkshire. Years ago I was a paddy train driver down Bentley Colliery near Doncaster, a long time ago 1977. Duncan the bus driver (now retired)
Not a problem. It may be a couple of weeks or so
OK dale eney chance you can film in 4k.this one is 360p.bad picture. Great when it's clear thanks
I normally film in HD. For some reason this video would not upload in HD. All the other videos have uploaded in both SD and HD. Apologise for the quality
Any reason for the drop in picture resolution from the usual 1080p down to 360p Vaseline vision, looks horrendous on a large tv screen, maybe you needed to save memory card space on this one, please can we go back to 1080p, spoils an otherwise good video. Thanks Dale.
I did film in HD as normal however for hat ever reason it wouldn’t upload to UA-cam in HD. Tomorrows video is in HD so hopefully it’s just a one off issue
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Thanks Dale, i just belatedly noticed your comment at the top explaining this, think i need to go to Specsavers !
Dale, why are the bends at St Paul’s on the central line, and why are some signals square, not round?
I am not familiar with the central line. It could be like the pic it followed the road above or to avoid some thing like foundations. As for the signals I know even less about them
have u ever driven the black piccadilly line train with the night tube livery. If so,do you happen to know why there's no more livery trains?
Hi Dale, love your videos, would it be possible to have a shout out in your next video please.
Keep up the good work
Cheers simon harbertson
Of cause. It may be a couple of weeks or so
Are the old station platforms walled up to prevent trespass, or other operational reasons?
No I’m not going to moan about ads, maybe it’s my settings or just UA-cam playing up, but if you get the choice/chance dale, choose longer ads, as ads every second station spoils it. DON’T apologise Great videos. Reminds me of my London visits.
@@johnallan4826 it’s strange with ads. Some people see ads every few minutes and others hardly see any. My sister usually tells me how many ads show up when she watches my videos and it never seems too many. It’s a strange thing. I just leave it up to UA-cam to decide.
@@dalecharmantravels8057to be honest dale, I was just about to delete my comment, but you beat me to it, please accept my apologies. I have watched quite a few videos with limited ads, but this one I’ve left twice to clear my head. Will finish it today. As I said forget it. Won’t mention it again
I do understand the frustration. You tube does seem to be putting more and more ads on. I pay for premium because it annoyed me. So no need to apologise
I have a question would you fly with air lingus again 🤔. I flew with them from Manchester to Dublin to Chicago it was great
I would yes. I didn’t have any issues with them. I would like to try them on a long haul route
Curiosity question: I was watching a driver's view video of one of our Melbourne Australian trains going through our city loop, and noticed that we have fluorescent lights on the ceiling that allows the driver to see ahead of the tracks.
I was wondering if the lighting in your tunnels are sufficient for you to see any obstacles, or how you'd feel if your tunnels had better lighting like ours. Or do you think more lighting might hinder your job?
I prefer the dark. The signals are so much easier to see. When the lights are on in the tunnel it can give me a headache pretty quick with all those lights passing by
that is the main reason you can´t live stream, there would be riots at the stations, people running around with coffee. (also no internet). ... a follow up question. are the wi-fi in the new trains so good that you could theoretically live stream ?????? of course it had to be a delayed life stream in care of stuff.
Hello
Hi Dale. Still enjoying your videos. Question; re signal failures. If a signal goes green-red-green, as you mentioned, would you stop anyway just in case and call it in? Cheers, Neil.
If you are able to stop then yes. It all depends on the speed of the train and distance to the signal. I would still report it even if I was unable to stop
Hey Dale, what’s up with the video quality as it’s only showing at 360 dpi maximum?
I am sorry. I don’t know why it didn’t process up to HD. It just seems to be a one off technical issue
I'd like a mint thanks Dale, I can trade for continued waving at you from the platforms and reminders about Turham Green should the lights not be working. Let me know if you're interested :)
I think that’s a fair trade. See you there tonight
On my way boss!
did u get my shoutout on camera
You you first start driving, are you designated an area? Can you request an area?
Im under the impression that the District is ATO thru Earls court with coloured signals now inactive. Does this mean that Piccadilly trains have to be on separate tracks to the District at this point?
We run on separate tracks from the district any way. The only part we share with them now is Acton Town to Hanger Lane junction (between Ealing Common and North Ealing)
1:06:12 Sorry about your coffee, Dale. I was busy at Aldwych. I couldn’t find the coffee machine because the lights were out.
Any excuse. There must be a Starbucks near Aldwych 🤣🤣
On the last video, did you say the new 2024 stock train will arrive at the end of september and if you can, could you probably film it passing a station if you get lucky?
I won’t be in the uk when it arrives. At the moment it is due on the 30th. However I will try and film it if I ever see it out. Which may be a while as I think it’s only going to run out of normal traffic hours
Won't upload in HD? SD would be good enough, but the only option I'm getting is 360p...
It does say it’s uploaded in SD. I apologise and hope it’s just a one off technical glitch
How often do you have problems with a train? mechanical type things.
I have never had a major failure on a train. Even issues with doors, PA system ect is rare. I can’t recall the last time I had to remove a train from service
☕- Please pardon the delay
You are most kind. Just what I need to wake up
360p best resolution sadly
I am sorry. There was an issue when it uploaded. Hopefully it’s just a one off issue
sorry to ask. what happens if you get the squits?
You hope you can make it to the toilet. We can use a toilet at any station if we have too. We try not to and only use the toilets at the terminating stations as it can cause a delay
You didn't mention me I asked a few weeks ago
I am so sorry I will add you to the next shout out in a couple of weeks or so
he's been busy like.....
Can I have a shout out
how do they decide which trains end at Arnos Grove?
I guess maths comes in to it. Working out how many trains can terminate at Cockfosters at any one time so the others have to go to Arnos.
Free coffee? But I/we have t pay for mints???? 😱😂
Of cause. Do I like nice enough to give things away 🤣🤣
Dale - Thanks for the shout out. Proud to have Autism. Thanks for the mint! What's the white light at the start of the tunnel at Gloucester Road or below the monitors at South Kensington?
That’s a P Crid ( I think that’s what it’s called). It’s to indicate if the power is on or not
Love ur videos there really intresting can I get a shoutout is possible ? Dom from Durham
Of cause you can. Give me a couple of weeks or so
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thanks also are they extending the platforms for the new trains ?
No is the short answer. Apparently most platforms are long enough. Any that are not the train can stop further in the tunnel. With the front set of doors or last set not opening
@@dalecharmantravels8057 that’s fair enough we have that in Chester-le-Street for the trasnpennines, you will have to come and try the brand-new metros when they get put in service
@dalecharmantravels8057 I would love a shout-out on your next video. @Prit from Toronto, Canada 😬
Of cause. It will be2 or 3 weeks before I can edit the next video
