I could always be found on a night coach pre pandemic. I used to get the night coach from Newcastle Upon Tyne down to London, see my family that live there and then take a train from London for my yearly 10 night break away on the Isle of wight 😂. I didn't mind it and if I'm honest I used to only do it as I enjoyed getting off the coach in the morning and rolling into McDonald's at Victoria to get me egg and sausage muffin. Also the savings I made using the coach from North to South gave me extra to spend when I was on the Isle of wight. Ah I miss those days.
Steve, there is nothing wrong with a fail. Everybody has different levels of pain they can go through ! At least you can now appreciate more what Alicja went through. Keep up the travelling.
I did an overnight bus journey 39 years ago. The trauma of the journey has not yet gone away. Well done for giving it a go but take the train next time. It’s worth the extra expense!
I feel you mate. I did London to Hamburg on Eurolines once. It was very, very painful. I couldn't really afford to fly back then, so it seemed like the only option. Oh Steve! You are a brave man. In case anyone from our part of the world is put off visiting lovely Dorset by this, there is in fact a flight between Edinburgh and Bournemouth. It might be pricier during the school holidays, but I use it regularly throughout the year to visit my mum and I’ve never paid more than £70 return including a bag and seat selection.

From that bridge on the Thames you were actually looking down river. When I was living in thatLondon I did the overnight journey to Glasgow and back many times - it was never a good experience but it was all I could afford back then. It's the train for me nowadays. Great to share your experiences albeit vicariously. Keep it up.
What you do for bringing us these terrific videos about places, I will never be able to visit, Steve! The editing was so perfect, that although "just" travelling, it was interesting and never had a dull moment. Your commentary contributes to that. You are a genius Sir! BTW, my longest bus trip was Sydney to Adelaide, 24h if I remember it right, but with two longer stops in the evening and for breakfast, so it doesn't really count. Great experience, but I was 20 years younger then.....
I backpacked as a 41yr old (Aussie) in 2019 throughout Europe and used Flixbus to get around. Over 4 months it cost a total of $300 AUD (£150 approx) to get around. Some trips were. I absolutely loved it even though some of the overnight trips were painful especially with problematic passengers. But wow it was an amazing way to see Europe on a budget! 😀
Steve, You should have bailed at Edinburgh and jumped on First Class in the LNER 1028 service for £29 and had some cool orange juice, piping hot tea or coffee and a delicous Bacon butty, plus also the disabled loo, to change any clothes. We know you Scotsmen like looking after their money but sometimes you just have to spend it. :)
Hi Steve Great video completely agree 12 hours without a break is not good for passengers, drivers and the engine of the vehicle. They are asking too much. The Poole video was excellent also. Regards Crawford
I did a coach from Victoria to Durham once in the late 80s, never again. You could still smoke on the coach in the back rows but we managed to get the front seats with a great view of the road, only to find the driver puffed on his pipe for a good bit of the journey! Also did the cross channel megabus thing, the fact it went from Place Stalingrad says it all.
A very cool vlog Steve! I did Southampton to Edinburgh via London on National Express and that was 13 hours (including the connection), As you saw on our post we did that Flixbus service from London to Amsterdam... You did very well on this overnight treck!
Fab video and I love your voice as always being a fellow Scot. I have only taken the bus twice in my teens from Edinburgh to London. I thought never again. . The Eastern Scottish coaches though were quite nice with big plush seats , decent legroom and a toilet. That was back in the 70’s
I am from the USA, spending 15 days in northern England (flew to Manchester) and your Scotland, 12 of them by rental car, Last night (Saturday), I stayed in your hometown of Montrose as accommodations south on Saturday night were beyond dear. What a nice town, I can understand why you and Alica live there. I stayed in a guest house on King Street. You have the necessities, including a beach, a port for ships, even a nearby lighthouse, a mainline train station (which I looked at) and an interesting church steeple. My going to Scotland including the highlands and the NE coast of was inspired by your travel videos, although I have been in parts 2 times (1986 & 1993). What an epic Steve. Really enjoyed that. I often took the coach (Euro lines) from Avignon in Der Provence, all the way to Oberhausen in Germany. 17+ hours. Well done Steve, you made it, even if it was a challange for you! I did a 24 hour train journey from Haparanda ( border town Sweden/Finland) to my hometown Malmö in the south. Changed trains three times though.
I have no comment really to add apart from the usual 'excellent video, well worth watching, Steve's great' etc. But every comment we make helps YT's algorithms push Steve's channel further up the viewing list for others to discover- and who are we to keep it all to ourselves? Just remember we all need to watch the adverts at the end and not just close the page when Steve does his 'outro'.
All night drivers will know about "white line fever" though it has many names. Its a form of trance state. I used to do newcastle to wolverhampton every night, it takes some getting used to but I loved it.
Great video, used to live and work in Poole/Bournemouth and also travel up to Montrose (to see the Hendersons) - I think I will stick to either driving or fly & drive as that coach journey would kill me nowadays! ;)
I think that is the first time I have seen the Basin full when you guy are in Montrose filming. Don't blame you for hopping off the long bus ride. You looked more relaxed on the train to Montrose.
Well done for the overnight coach trip. I did years ago from London/Edinburgh return and vowed to never ever do that again I'd rather walk . In those days it was the old SMT with one stop at Watford Gap services for 15 minutes, with the same problem as you, no knee space and cramped narrow seats. But it did occur to me that you could have used Cross country trains from Bournemouth to Birmingham and change for another XC to Aberdeen ( just a thought). Cheers
When you jumped into the front seat with no leg room I knew you were in difficulty. Rookie move Steve! Maybe in my younger years would I have attempted such a trek. Have a great rest of your weekend.
Great video Steve, you're a braver man than me taking on that long coach journey. Even with two seats my knees and back would not have survived me being sat down for so long. As I get older I'm sure my body is extracting pay back for what I put it through in my youth. 🤔😉👍.
Great great video as always. I hope you managed to get some proper "west and wewaxation at wast". All the sacrifice you do for us. It's amazing. You are a, or the, true legend. Looking very much forward to your next video.

Enjoy all of your travelling videos and this one was no different. The London walk and the countryside was amazing. Cheers from Canada!
I admire your adventurous spirit!
Didn't know that! I usually respond because good work deserves a good boy!
Thanks for sharing the journey.
All night drivers will know about "white line fever" though it has many names. Its a form of trance state. I used to do newcastle to wolverhampton every night, it takes some getting used to but I loved it.
Wonderful video of your travels. Great commentary.
Bet you slept well when home enjoyable content as always
I'm kind of glad Alicja maintains bragging rights. Me, I wouldn't have a hope...nope!
Great great video as always. I hope you managed to get some proper "west and wewaxation at wast". All the sacrifice you do for us. It's amazing. You are a, or the, true legend. Looking very much forward to your next video.
I’ve taken hundreds of overnight coach trips here in Turkey but no more I can’t take them anymore and she’ll out for a flight whenever I can Will be in Istanbul for back surgery on Oct 7th Your videos will be very useful during my recovery Cheers guys
Well done,hope you are recovered!
