Another professional team video with added value in the quality and quantity of commentary, script and added cut aways from the cab/line focus of most other ‘Driver’s eye view’ format. Excellent work, again!
What a superb upload, as others have said a good mix of cab and other views with just the right comments to keep the viewers alert. I''m too old now to do much traveling so this was a great experience, keep up the good work. Liked and subsribed, thank you.
I traveled on this route back in 1990 when BritRail still existed on a sleeper train to Fort William. I actually had a 2 week 1st class BritRail pass & went all over UK. There was even a train to Tilbury Dockside where I got on a cruise ship (Royal Princess, the one christened by Princess Diana). Cheers from Vancouver. BTW the BritRail timetable was over 500 pages.
Am only here just to make sure I get the free tsw5 pack and wait for JT wcml route. Watching this and seeing the tsw main route wcml (s) 100% makes my mind up.
Anybody in the track department thought to look at telephoto views of the track. At the end of the video we see the track that way. You can see every lump and bump! Who needs a 7 M Euro rail inspection car to do this? Great video!
The statement at 2:46 suggesting HS2 will commence at OOC and not Euston is incorrect. The Euston tunnel has never been formally cancelled, only delayed pending confirmation of financing. It is now reported that government will fund this section and formal announcement will be made in the Budget on 30th October, with construction commencing next year. The two boring machines are already in place and all set to go.
Very good and nicely edited i like the fly by shots better then video 125 and i know this route very well traveling since i was a kid on the intercity class 87s going to Liverpool lime street in the late 80s early 90s and its also good now coz some of the route is on TSW 5 as far as milton keynes 👍
Before the wires went up for electrification Atherstone had a signal box centrally suspended above the lines. My grandfather worked it for a time after WWII. There was a junction with the Baddesley Colliery line, locally known as "The Paddy Line".
Accidentally hoped on this train last week and eneded up in Milton Keynes mild you I like near Wembley. It took me 2 hours to get a direct train back. They kept delaying then cancelling trains
Always a relaxing and interesting watch. With 2A at MK I believe the plan was to have the trains on the Marston Vale line running into it. I wonder if any EW rail trains will run into MK, you would think it would encourage passengers travelling from Oxford or Bedford (especially Oxford as the roads between the cities are poor)
At Hemel Hempstead, the town centre is still a mile from the station and it was also called Boxmoor station because Hemel Hempstead station was on the Nickey line (No L in the name) near the town centre. At Cheddington the branch was on the left of the down fast so would be going West to Aylesbury not East.
Euston is being rescoped out of the responsibility of HS2 Ltd, but is very much still destined as the ultimate terminus of HS2. The project has not been cancelled - just paused until a development company is appointed to deliver the new scope.
Cheddington branch to Aylesbury is to the west off the platform we pass on the down line not east. The Great Train Robbery stock was placed in that platform after the event on a curved platform next to the one we just passed through.
Very interesting programme Paul. The only improvement would be to remix the sound bringing the voice level up and making the transitions from voice back to effects less jarring.
Did the driver have his window open? Sounds extremely noisy compared with many other cab rides. Otherwise really interesting video as I live on this route 👍
I always thought the Trent Valley had been 4-tracked all the way, but I see quite a chunk of it is still 3-track. Also, I'm surprised a 110mph train can be routed Euston to Rugby on the fast lines all the way. I'd have thought it'd be in the way of the 125mph stuff.
Primrose Hill tunnel is a disgrace, it is part of ours and railways heritage, a thing of beauty which should be treated as such, surely it wouldn't take much to clean it up?.
Well said. One of the regrettable aspects of the romanticization of the Great Train Robbery is that the violence of the crime and the death of the driver are ignored .
I don't understand why two sets of tracks running parallel with each other can have two different line speeds. Why have fast and slow lines when both sets of tracks are going to the same places? - until one veers off in a different direction.
There is a need for 2 different speed lines because freight trains only do maximum 75mph plus also the slow lines are used for stopping services whereas this video shows an intercity service that can do 110mph. You wouldn't want freight trains holding up passenger ones would you 🤷
Nice job with your cuts from the cab view to an outside view of a train passing the location. Also your narration is very informative. Excellent job.
I was the driver on this. At armitage i hit a pigeon at 110mph and it burst, smearing the window and paul had to edit that bit out lol.
would like to see that blooper on a separate clip, just wonder if the loud bang drivers talk about is true in such a situation.
Poor pigeon
@@mattbicazette502yes, I once witnessed a bus going over a pigeon and it popped loudly lol
@@willcchiwill8836 yeah... cool laughing over a animal being killed. NOT! wetwipe
I saw that pigeon come across and thought that was extremely close. Thought you just missed it. 🙂
It is a pity there are not more rail channels with commentaries as good as your own. This was excellent. “Nice one, son”. 🇦🇺

Another superb, professionally produced video with informative commentary 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏾
Very interesting. Excellent commentary and captions. Thanks.
So enjoyable and I did spot the unfortunate pigeon flying across!!! Thanks for another great journey.
The wobbly camera mount makes it feel even faster!

Better than video 125 and a damn site cheaper. Thank you
ever since your dc watford line vide I wanted to see more of the west coast main line and finally you delivered! thanks a lot and keep 'em coming!
Your work has improved exponentially over the years. A great documentary and a well made video. Thank you.
Enjoyable ride - good commentary and periodic lineside shots add to the journey. Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video Paul. With this being my favourite mainline, the high quality production and commentary made it all the more special!
I really do like your videos and narration. I view them from Colorado Springs, South of Denver, in the USA.
Superb thank you all for once again a great presentation

Great video as always Paul. Hope you are doing well ;)

Narration as well as video both of high quality and very interesting Paul. Please keep up the great video's, thank you very much👍
Thanks Paul and team. More great work. Always enjoy a ride up the WCML
An enjoyable and informative journey.Paul . The narration is certainly a big bonus . Well done .
Enjoyed your new video, as a ex steam Fireman/Driver we never thought of the speed that would be attained in the future.🚂🚂🚂
Excellent in all respects. I particularly like your commentary.
I looked up the 1952 crash, thanks for the info!
A very good piece of work. Thank you!
Nice to see again one of my old driving routes.Well done.

Hi Paul . Could you do London Euston to Glasgow Central via Birmingham new Street and London Euston to Edinburgh via Birmingham new Street please
Great !

The last time i seen a train on platform 2A was in 2016 when a southern train was just sitting there
Cheddington branch to Aylesbury is to the west off the platform we pass on the down line not east. The Great Train Robbery stock was placed in that platform after the event on a curved platform next to the one we just passed through.
I'm surprised at the lack of freight trains opposite. It could be the time of day or the lack of space on a very overcrowded WCML.
As far as is possible, freight travels during the night.
Very interesting programme Paul. The only improvement would be to remix the sound bringing the voice level up and making the transitions from voice back to effects less jarring.
Down fast near Armitage looks like it requires a relay. Wet beds everywhere

you missed out the railcrash at hixon when a train hit a lowloader carrying a very large transformer
My old patch, are they planning speed increases (covered up speed signs)?
OMG

You forgot to mention that Jack Mills never worked again and died of his injuries.

Can't believe the dumb devs at Dovetail Games effed up this route for their simulator game only going as far as Milton Keynes lol
the cut-aways at stations are fine, but I find those panning shots and exterior views during the actual journey a little distracting and intrusive
