The Hyundai Veloster N is MORE Fun than I Ever Imagined | First Impression Review

- In today's video, this Honda boy jumps behind the wheel of a Hyundai Veloster N! This car single handedly changed the way I view the new Hyundai N Models. So I bring you along for a first impression review of a subscribers Performance Pack Veloster N 6 Speed! Exhaust Pops and Smiles included.
Like many of you, I have a hard time looking past a "badge" on a car for me to take it seriously. Hyundai was never my tuner car brand of choice, and KDM doesn't have the ring that JDM does. With that said, Hyundai has made a fan out of me with the new Veloster, Kona, and Elantra "N" model cars. Tony offered to let me review his Veloster N and I HAD to see if these were as fun as people claimed them to be. Needless to say, this car may have been the most "out of the box" fun I've had in FWD turbo vehicle. Now I say that still not knowing what a FK8 Civic Type R feels like, but I imagine it's a close tier.
We start the video with my general predictions on the car and what I was somewhat expecting. From there, Tony gives us a walkaround of the car showing some of the odd features, subtle modifications, and interior. I will say, it looks better in person than on video and you really have to sit in it to appreciate it. It's a simple car with much of the emphasis on the driving experience, and I love that. After that, we take the Veloster N for a spirited backroad drive that unlocked my new found love for these cars.
Don't let people tell you these things aren't quick, because they are. For a stock car, this already feels like a well modified example of something from maybe 10 years ago. The sound is incredible, the pops, gurgles, induction sound, etc. will ALWAYS bring a smile to your face. The suspension felt planted and very confidence inspiring for anything with a turn. I loved it, and honestly didn't want to stop driving it. In Short: Embrace the badge, drive one, appreciate what Hyundai is doing.

When I drove a VN I went in with low expectations, I was blown away, super fun car. I liked it so much I went and bought one as a daily. Badge wasn't an issue for me, im just a normal guy in a Hyundai.

I bought my 20 VN back November after a settlement from an accident in my 13 VT. I will have to say, for the few months I've owned this car, this is by far the best car I ever owned and driven. The last actual fun car I owned was a 08 Dodge Caliber SRT4. Gave it an intake and a tune and it was a best. But the fact that I have different modes in the VN and can custom things, and it hugs the ground nicely makes this car so much fun to drive. Best purchase for me.
True story: i tried scheduling a test drive for one of these and i was so close until i had to enter my age and i was only 17 but i had my license...they refused😂

Try an EN DCT, the tech compared to a '19 Veloster is hugely upgraded, bigger turbo and powerband, the 8 spd dct is unbelievably good and the car feels more refined but retains all of the fun and willingness to hoon. I've owned both.

Agreed that the EN DCT is the one to have, but I personally think the VN DCT in Black is just so sexy. At least from the outside

I bought mine on June 23 2022. Only one within 250 miles in any direction of the dealership. Can confirm damn near impossible to find.
I've owned an N for a year now, and it's easily my favorite car. I cant imagine something better for the price. It makes me smile and laugh daily (farting on slower cars).

I owned a 1999 civic si stick vtech electro blue, it was a enthusiast car, then I got a 1997 civic stick and ended with this 2021 velostern dct . I love my Veloster N great car for the price .

Easy way to remember Hyundai like Sunday. Koreans will omit the "h" and just enunciate the y so it's more a long the lines of "yoon-day" . But whatever floats your boat

The license plate is pretty sick. I like what you said about the interior because you were being as honest as you could without sounding rude. The interior is basic but does the job, and the car already has decent “creature comfort” features. The interior gets the job done and doesn’t try to be anything more than it should.
I actually like the interior. Pretty minimalist. The seats and the steering wheel are good imo....so all the other stuff doesn't matter to me.

Get in a Elantra N if you can for testdrive
I own a base model Veloster, it ain’t fast in any way but that thing drives like it’s on rails, and some surprisingly stiff suspension to boot. Hoping to upgrade to a VN because of the impression that the base model left me. I’m a Honda guy and only got the Veloster for the price due to the financial situation I was in and was completely blown away by the handling and tech the car has as standard.
My brother just picked up a veloster, not an N tho. It’s just such a unique car I feel like
The N model is an entirely different beast. Sweet cars nonetheless!
We here in Europe have the i30 N which has a face-lift with DCT and shift paddles, but I wish we could get the Veloster N. (Personally I've got the 2011 Veloster)

It's good to try other car brands. I consider myself a Honda guy since 1987. Driven every Honda except for an S2000 and NSX. In my opinion I test drove a Veloster and Hyundai Genesis R Spec 10 years ago and the R Spec is a beast. I think it is an underrated car and you can get one used for under 13K.
Looking at videos to convince me to buy one and I come across this and it’s my old neighbor here in Tehachapi Ca 😂

@@ALLDAYANTHONY honestly, if you care about driver engagement, the Fiesta ST is legitimately more fun than a stock RS, assuming you look past the power difference. (Lighter weight almost always makes for a more fun driving experience)

If you're ever in SLC I'll let you try the DCT version of this car. Stock minus intake and wheels. Sometimes I wish I went manual but I really fell in love with the idea of having the same transmission technology as a much more expensive car.

I think you mean too flat a power curve..? As in the excitement in a linear the power build. That's what I like too. When the Focus St had been out a couple years, I test drove one, it was torquey as all hell but at least stock, felt like no fun to rev out. I went back to my 07 Si and thought, this car feels so much funner to drive. I still have it cuz it's perfect fun. I also have a 2018 Elantra Sport as a cruiser. dct, intake, DP, tune, it's surprisingly quick and I like it, but man I need the E.N. manual.

Are those true numbers? I have a Kona N and don't consider it fast. I'm going to tune it for that very reason to stage 2. I think the GTI seems to have a much better tuning platform from what I read as well. I like my Kona N but it had a short life, new gen Kona's went bigger oh well...
@@carloscervantes836 Those are the general 0-60 numbers for the Veloster N, yes. They obviously aren't going to be the fastest car out there, but they're definitely not slow either. No one really needs 400+ HP anyway to have fun lol

You gotta remember that 2019 tech is almost 5 year old tech!
I would implore you to try the elantra n dct if you can, that thing is actually really fast and the power is underrated, its more of a representation of modern car technology.
Now you gotta review a Stinger GT
He actually drove a Stinger GT2 on a test course when they were brand new at SEMA a few years ago, you could probably ask him how that went.
I don't believe you didn't like the GR Yaris better than the Veloster N.
Smaller, more agile better handling all-wheel drive come on.

Driven both. Veloster n has more character and is more fun as a street car. The GR Corolla is fun with its awd and customizability. But the veloster n is just a hoot, it doesn’t drive at all how it looks. It’s very juvenile in the way it drives, you just gotta get behind the wheel of one to understand.
Try the Elantra N DCT. Quite a bit faster !

I always hated the look of hatchbacks. The Veloster wasn't even on my radar when looking at cars. I came across a 21 DCT with 11k miles on it and said gross. The dealer asked me if I wanted to take it for a test drive and I laughed and declined. I looked on the inside and thought it looked pretty good in there. Sat in it and thought it was pretty comfortable despite my 6'4" 240lb frame. After 5 minutes I said "yeah...let's take a little drive". Within 2 minutes of taking it out, I actually kinda liked it. Then I put it in N mode and I have never had this much fun in a car. I went and drove 9 other cars that week and it still seemed like the Veloster was the most enjoyable. I took it home last week.
