The 1980's singers brought it, sorry for being an old man whose seen his better days. But , I was lucky to be born and experienced the greatest decade of music.
I mean...I was never the biggest Cheap Trick fan around....but this is BADASS!

First time I saw this I was blown away .
Incredible. Totally rocks. That's what's great about covers. Doesn't have to sound like the original. I would say this was the best performance of any artist that night.

Cheap Trick are one of the great rock bands stil sounding great. Robin Zander has one of the great rock voices! Aerosmith Joe Perry's fav band! Robin has a side band "The Robin Zander Band" and they do all kinds of cover stuff from ACDC to The Who. Awesome tribute to Skynyrd!
Tom Petersson perhaps has the most effect on this excellent rendition of "Gimme Back my Bullets", with haunting effects with his bass line and a seriously haunting tone, as Robin Zander turns the funky blues laden original into a real rocker of a song. The purpose of performing in a tribute concert (which is what this cut comes from - "One More for the Fans" live at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, site of "One More from the Road" - is to make a classic song of the honoree your own, which Cheap Trick does with relish here.

I heard an interview with Ronnie VanZant that Skynyrd had to quit performing this song in concert because so many people would start throwing bullets on the stage.

Cheap Trick should do more covers of other bands material besides the Beatles. They actually make me want to hear some stripped down Skynyrd and like it. R. Zander almost totally resurrects Ronnie Van Zant's vocals. Great!
Robin is such a great vocalist! He has a side band "The Robin Zander Band" or RZB. They play Zep, Who, ACDC, great stuff. They have dates when Robin isn't touring with Cheap Trick. There are some YT of them! Check it out!

Amazing respect for Robin, at his age to still be so rock solid is incredible. I hear vocalists like Ian Anderson these days and they can barely utter a sound in their elder stages but Robin is still powerful and on point.

I get why some skynyrd fans are hesitant about their version. This is their band and no one can do it just right. There are many Cheap Trick fans that feel the same way when a band tries to cover them, it'll never match up. The band loves Cheap Trick. Both bands are big fans of each other and for those that really don't know about Cheap Trick, they have a side to their music that unfortunately most people don't know about . Here is an example

it's pro-shot and released on DVD called 'one more for the fans' very good show with different bands playing different skynyrd songs before skynyrd come on and play a few songs to end the night.
I don't know if I'd say they're the greatest when I look back at Joe Satriani Eddie Van Halen Santana there's a lot of great bands out there back then don't get me wrong cheap check was great my favorite all time I have to go with Van Halen Lynyrd Skynyrd

AndreaMana, if it wasn't a song you regularly performed - and it was a cover of another band's song, WHY NOT make sure the lyrics are correct? Robin Zander, being the professional he IS, made sure it was done right. Good for him and Cheap Trick. They did an OUTSTANDING job with this song. Can't wait to hear the entire CD.

Jim you're right. Rush is good and is still kicking butt. But nobody gets the body moving and the libido blood running like Cheap Trick does. Rush is more of a "thinking man's" band and they're still good at what they do. Cheap Trick brings on the party mode at a high pitch like a good rock & roll band should.

This one and Blacberry Smoke's version on MCA were about the best and of course Jason Isbell doin I know a little. 'Skynyrd' was lame and had the weakest performance that night. No wonder.
Skynyrd wasn't great but they were still a hell of a lot better than Peter Frampton doing The Breeze. By far the worst performance of the show. All the others ranged from okay to excellent. Blackberry Smoke, Jamey Johnson, and Warren Haynes being in the excellent category.
I love the trick but I'm just not feeling this. Love Skynyrd's live version much better.

This cover was a trainwreck for me, a big slap in the face to Skynyrd, us fans, and the event. they were ill prepared, big hickup at the beginning, Nielson didn't bother to learn any of the songs signature licks. Very disrespectful to a band, Skynyrd, who prided themselves on excellence no matter where they played. Shameful guys. If you don't want to put in the work, don't put your name on the bill. Out.
