- Order "Live At Knebworth '76": mercury-studios.lnk.to/Lynyrd...
On August 21, 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd took the stage at Knebworth as part of a daylong festival which also included Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, 10cc and The Rolling Stones. The show has gone down in Lynyrd Skynyrd history as one of the band’s greatest performances. The 1976 Knebworth show features Ronnie Van Zant’s iconic vocals and their famed triple guitar attack of Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Steve Gaines in front of a crowd estimated between 150,000 and 200,000. Their entire performance from that day is here for you to witness the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd in all its glory with cleaned up visuals and remixed audio, available on DVD+CD, Blu-ray+CD and DVD+2LP.
absolutely mind blowing performance, that plane crash robbed us of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
Hello Andrew how are you doing today
Bruh, it wasn’t bad luck, they and the pilots were drunk/hooking up wit groupies and went into a storm. Those dudes were simply to wild for this concrete jungle.
@@pooboi8600 In his 2003 book Lynyrd Skynyrd: Remembering the Free Birds of Southern Rock, Gene Odom, a bodyguard for Van Zant[19] who was on board the plane and survived the crash, reports that co-pilot Gray had been observed using cocaine the previous evening and was potentially impaired;[20] however, toxicology reports from both pilots' autopsies found no traces of alcohol or other drugs.[1] "Crew inattention to fuel supply" was ultimately determined to be responsible for the crash.
@@pooboi8600 they didn’t fly into a storm , their plane ran out of gas , pilots had no drugs or alcohol in their system per toxicology reports…pilots error and negligence was the cause of the crash …do some research
@Jay Landau Well it was an end to Lynyrd Skynyrd sadly.
Ronnie's presence on stage spoke a million shades of cool and he never did anything more than stand there. RESPECT!
Sir, you are absolutely correct. 😊
You got that right!
and barefooted. Ronnie never wore shoes when performing. He said he liked the heat on his feet from the stage.
Definitely. Dude just had this cool vibe about him like he just didn't give a fuck and he just wanted to perform his music.
I was surprised when I read that Ronnie Van Zant wrote most of they're songs. A genius
Likely the most "honest" band ever. Songs about real life, hard work, no glamour bs.
The most important band in history. Yeah 3:35
Yes, accessible.
so short together as a great band
Amen brother
Go to a wedding ask the band to play this in seconds the dance floor is packed. It don't get no better than this
Ronnie was cool as hell, he always stepped back and let the guitar guys go up front and jam for the folks. 🎸
Yes, it's true but Ronnie was also scrutinizing every bandmates performance in every possible way and detail. if they failed in the slightest...that bandmate would get an earful from Ronnie after the show...FO SHOW! Ronnie was a perfectionist and even insisted they bow to the audience at the end of their performance. The politeness and extreme respect to the audience was not only a very old school homage but also a tribute to their parents' Southern upbringing. There was no just walking off the stage with a little wave at the end of the show...No Suh! They understood exactly what their fame brought to their lives and didn't take their fans or audience members for granted. Another reason, of many, to just love this band from my hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.
@@maryreilly5092 cool to know!
@@maryreilly5092 love the backstory! I was in college when that sad news came a year later of their plane crash.

Allen Collins just tearing up the guitar makes me smile every time. Rest easy.
There it is ladies and gentlemen "the greatest American Rock Band ever" nothing less.
Hello Paul how are you doing today
@WALK IN MY SHADOW that’s great hope all is well with you
@WALK IN MY SHADOW where are you from
Got that right
Greatest American band in rock history. Skynyrd was staggeringly good.
Most groups were lucky to have one great guitarist. These guys had 3. They had so much more to give the world. What a shame they got on that damn plane with those pilots.
Best Southern Band ever.
Don't forget Leon Wilkeson on Bass ❗👍🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I never knew what caused the crash until now. What a crying shame.

Don't forget the guys that were maintaining and leasing the aircraft ‼️😡
They were at the top of their game at that concert. I'm so grateful for the video. I am now in the process of introducing Lynyrd Skynyrd to my grandchildren.
Right on there brother they are a machine and they know it
Yes I am also I introduced them to my kids and now my 3 Granddaughters jam to them! 😎 By the way they are my Homeboys. May they R.I.P.
Your grandkids are blessed to have you in their lives. Live long, friend.
THANK YOU!! Feel sorry for kids today they are clueless.
They were good, although I saw them live with Ed King, and I'd argue that was the best era. But Gaines is damn good too, and did add a different shade to the band.
They don’t make ‘em like this anymore....
Yoyo you know me from scotland 😉
NEVER AGAIN !!
They do make em it just don’t sell like it used too 😂
Your absolutely right Mr. Charles!
Hello Charles how are you doing today
Skynyrd ain't Skynyrd without Ronnie 😢
Damn right! And the absolute shit show that they became. Nothing but a tribute band... It took 12 musicians, not counting the "Honkettes" to recreate what the original band did.
THEY DID PRETTY DAM GOOD AS REPLACING ORIGINAL LEONARD!
Good ole southern rock. No spandex. No glitter. Just talent
Right. And they didn't have all the effects back then. What they actually played was what you actually heard. You had to possess talent. And the lyrics were just real-life experiences they had. They were just so far ahead of the times with their sound.
@@toddbeck7352 Forsure, they sound amazing live, definitely indicative of true talent
Yes!!!
But 7 forgot the pot ,blow, and lsd ,,thus laid back and great entertainment
Love this because they tell a good little story and kick ass with the music.
5 decades later and still some of the best and most recognizable guitar work in the history of rock.
There will never be another decade as great for rock music as the 1970s.
You got that right on
That's most definitely 💯 truth of the matter! 👏
Agree 100%. Basically all I listen to now in 2023. Glad I grew up in the '60s and '70s.
As much as I agree that the 70's were one of the best decades for rock music I have to say the 60's are equally important and amazing. Remember, LYNYRD SKYNYRD started in 1964. Different name but same musicians. They were already Skynyrd in their hearts and souls. Same talent, same awesome music. The 60's were the bands that essentially created the bands of the 70's.
LONG LIVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amen to that …
The amount of raw talent on that stage is unreal. Gone way too soon!
Lynyrd Skynyrd is Heaven's house band
Skynyrd's music still carrying on the torch today
Hello Doug how are you doing today
The Stones were on the receiving end of every bands worst nightmare. Being upstaged by the opening act. Skynyrd not only upstaged them, but pissed them (mostly Mick) off so bad they delayed their set for like two hours or more. What I would give to go back in time and enjoy these guys at their best. Absolute legends.
America 2 England 0, The panic must have been overwhelming, The Monkeys, Peater Paul and Merry??? LOL, the stones got their nuts handed to them. It only made them stronger.

You won't find too many guitarists who show as much joy and passion for playing as Allen did. It's obvious that he was doing what he was born to do and loved every minute.
poor Allen. he got a shitty deal all around. lost his wife then his legs. died at 37.
My guitar god
Don’t think us British folks appreciated this band at the time but so glad we got footage like this to remind us how superb they were 🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸
They sold out whenever they played the UK and when they first toured supporting Golden Earring they got a headline show at London's Rainbow Theatre because they blew them off the stage and people were walking out after Skynyrd finished their set so maybe it was just you...
Hello dean how are you doing today
Dude, they sold out even in Japan, still in the 70s with Ronnie!
I was a bit too young then lol...Fully appreciated now though.
Don't kid yourself there were a lot who did. I had seen them on OGWT the previous year, and they were the main attraction here as far as I was concerned, not 10CC or the Stones, although I'm glad to have seen them.
In 100 years people will still be listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I cant stop watching these videos of Knebworth August 21st 1976. I was there, I lived in Stevenage, i was there with my mates who i cant find. Are any of them still alive, i dont know, i have tried tracing them, but to no avail. i miss them, i would love to find them. Those were the days. Yes i took drugs, we all did, we had a drink, we all did. I miss it all, but hey, im 67 now, not long to go i guess. Would love to see at least one of my old pals before i depart this world. Lynyrd skynyrd, awsome, they brought the day alive, they awakened the crowd, we all thought at the time, yes, come on ,lets go. Shame some of the band were to depart this life a year later.

Just another day at the office for Skynyrd. They were always ready when the lights came on. Go watch the 10cc and Stones footage from this day. Skynyrd seriously makes both of them look like absolute amateurs.
The energy from this concert is just insane

In my humble opinion Gary was the heart and soul of the band. Just like the album title he was Nuthin' Fancy to watch on stage - he just played. But boy, howdy, did he play! As they say he was as smooooooth as buttermilk! Rest well gentlemen, you'll never be forgotten.
I always kept a Skynyrd tape in the car cassette player, and when out driving with my family my 2 daughters would, age 8 and 6, would shout for”3 Steps”, and when the opening riff for Sweet Home Alabama started, right on cue they would shout “TURN IT UP”.
35 years on, they are still Skynyrd fans and I’m still playing their riffs on my Telecaster! A life well spent.
Allen collins is the most underrated shredder of the 70s
He is absolutely wasted whaling on that poor guitar.
Right. He wasn't really appreciated til years later when there was actually something to compare him to. He's probably in the top 5 of all time. If not , then he's the best. In my opinion
There was no "shredding" in the 70s. I am so grateful for that.

It was a great gig , the weather was great and Lynyrd Skynyrd were smoking , absolutely on it . This is how I remember them . 👍🇬🇧
Man the intro is so good. Allen's foot stomping on beat, then him opening the song with that classic badass riff. Doesn't get any better or cooler than that. ✍️🤘
It was cool as hell him stomping his foot to the beat. But I don't think he was the one who played the opening riff that was Gary Rossington. @@darellgullion4888Allen Collins opening riff. You can see him briefly just as Ronnie points to Gary to come in with his sick fat tone for the lead. Ronnie was a great front man. One great thing about him was is that he shared the stage with the entire band. It went all about him.
Fun fact: allen collins is playing one of the rarest guitars in the world here, a 1958 gibson explorer. Only 19 were made and all surviving ones are valued at around $1,000,000 each
That the one and only Eric Clapton gave him... what I would do to get my hands on one
Actually, records were lost of how many were made but Gibson figures it was close to 50 not 19

Ronnie was the conductor, maestro and band leader all in one! Steve Gaines took Skynyrd to a whole new level of tightness, and feel like never before. Ronnie knew he had all the pieces now to go forward for years to come. Shame a tragedy stopped a massive surge of energy and epicness we will only dream about. Steve Gaines likely would have made like 4-6 more albums with LS, but he would have branched off into blues jazz writing, and Jazz guitar/Classical as well. Steve would have had a solo career after Skynyrd, with many projects he already had on the table when he died. Honkettes were the best blues/Gospel-rock singers around period, for this type of music... They brought it in spades. They all did... God Bless these few video concert treasures we have to listen to and watch. I was just too young at the time to go see them live. Always will love their music till I die!
