- Today we're starting our 3rd round of decluttering in my mom's home. Because we put in so much work into the previous rounds, this declutter will be quicker and easier.To start our declutter, we're going to quickly sort through her small closet and see what she's willing to let go of so that she lightens her load and so that we can calm the chaos of this closet once again. It is great to see you go through a space for the 2nd or 3rd time because it shows how the decluttering muscles gets stronger. It´s a nice reminder that it´s OK not to get everything perfect right in the beginning and takes of some pressure. Merry Christmas! 🎄🌟

Watching this, I decluttered my night table, gathered documents for tax prep, and registered two appliances... And got papers I need to keep sorted to their actual home. Feels GOOD to make some progress and have some cleared, peaceful space.

I have that shawl! My mother made it for me and I have it in my hope chest. It didn't mean as much to me when I put it in there as it does now. My mother passed unexpectedly last year and all of the crocheted things I have are precious to me now. Maybe one day I will have a granddaughter that I can pass it on to for her to play dress up, but until then, it is staying. Let's bring handmade shawls back =)
Lovely to revisit with Mama-April and focus in a little - I always think of all the projects your Mum will do in the time she's given herself by having less stuff to caretake - more time for doing which is where Mama-April's heart is at - that's her passion. It took me multiple passes of decluttering before I was happy with the outcome. In hindsight, I wouldn't buy back any of the clothes and linens I got rid of.
That’s always a good feeling when you front have any regrets. I think that’s what slower, multiple pass decluttering is really helpful for…making confident decisions in your own time.

You aren't old enough to know him, but maybe your mom is, but seeing you empty the closet reminded me of Kaptain Kangaroo emptying his pockets. He had everything in there and what was in there never seemed to end. 😄 Love how you broke this down into sections!

Don’t hang crochet items. They aren’t made to do that.
Clear plastic shoe bins come to mind. They would help your mother see what she has.
They would be great for preventing dust too!

storing things in the plastic from the dry cleaner can damage and degrade the fabric as the chemicals from dry cleaning off-gas and have nowhere to go. Better to store them in breathable coverings.
Thanks for sharing the re-tweak. Tell your mom if she will spray the inside of her leather shoes with alcohol then wear them, they will stretch a bit and become more comfortable. Happy Holidays🎄

My two-year-old grandpup is also a Schnauzer. They are sneaky little devils but so lovable! Winston had me laughing at the constant shoe theft in this video and the others.

From one retired nurse to your retired nurse mom. Try Vionic shoes. I have terrible feet and ended up having a surgery on each foot that left a plate and multiple screws. Vionic shoes fit and they are so comfortable. Also Brooks tennis shoes (faithfully wore these in the OR). You will only need to buy Vionics once you discover how great they are. Hope you are enjoying your retirement. Your declutter videos with your daughter are great. The progress you have made is incredible and I know it feels great. It’s a life changer. I’m surprised that you didn’t color, coordinate your clothes hangers, do you have lots to choose from
I think its the most welcoming of a guest-bedroom ( especially in a big house with a lot of space for the house-owners ) to have an empty closet and empty hangers prepared for you, in which you can hang your clothing and even put your suitcase. That makes it for me a real mastered guest room-as the whole space is open for the guests

I'm actually going back soon and this is one of our BIG projects I want to get done. We've been putting it off. I will keep you posted on the system we use!
Looks to me like she just moved stuff around from one place to another half the stuff went into the wash. It’s gotta get put away somewhere.
