  • This is part 2 of our extreme Seoul Makeover + Declutter featuring a 2 bedroom apartment in Seoul. If you missed the first part, watch here: • MAJOR Apartment Declut...
    2020 hit just as they moved into their apartment and you can imagine that life got pretty stressful pretty quickly. When that happened, they neglected unpacking fully and before they knew it, there was a literal mountain of shi* left. But we've all been there, it happens. And especially with 2020, I GET IT! Today I wanted to start their makeover by decluttering their apartment, going through everything piece by piece and seeing if it's something we can get rid of. If not, I want to put it back in the space it belongs within the apartment. The second part of this video will focus more on pulling the whole space together, but today we're focusing on decluttering their lounge, bedroom and "dark room." This def felt like a therapy session leaving us emotionally and physically exhausted, so we squeezed in as much as we could on the first day and I'll be back to tackle the rest of their apartment another day and complete their 2 bedroom Seoul Apartment Makeover!

    *EDIT* Please Don't be too critical of the people whose rooms I'm renovating. Please understand they are letting me renovate their spaces and also film videos in their personal spaces and that's a very vulnerable thing to do. To let all of the world (youtube) get a private view into your home even when it's messy and not perfectly set up. So let's be grateful that we can see into their lives and not assume that we know what's best for them or make assumptions about what goes on when the camera is off. This should be an uplifting channel now and going forward, where we all help each other improve ourselves and not cut each other down. If these people had perfect homes and everything was perfect then they wouldn't have asked my help or let me design their space, and none of us are perfect. So let's be encouraging instead of discouraging.
    I would love to have done more in Cayly's space, but the truth is, these things take time AND THAT'S OKAY. We did all that we could in 2 days and I'm so happy with how it came out. I love that she now has an area to relax peacefully in in the lounge, has an area to bake, and has a storage room that's not out of control. I hope you guys enjoyed this and we'll be back soon with more makeovers!

      Imo it was all great but that sofa and that coffee table needed to go tbh tbh.

  • @itsmytruth2934

    FYI: Have the client to unzip the sofa cushions. Reach inside and reposition the inserts, so that the piping is straight all around. This will totally change the overall look of the sofa. The result will be simply amazing when performed on the seat and back cushions. 👌

      Also if the cushion covers zip completely off, the covers can be put in the washing machine. The trick is to pick a dry, sunny, non-humid, day. Wash on the gentle to medium cycle. A small amount of detergent. You can run thru 2 gentle wash cycles if the gentle cycle didn't get it done the first time. You can also use a very little bit of fabric softener in the rinse cycle if you find it absolutely necessary. But DO NOT put the covers in the DRYER!!! Run it thru the SPIN cycle of the WASHING MACHINE TWICE to remove as much water as possible. Remove from washer immediately and IMMEDIATELY zip them WET back onto the cushions. YES, WET!! That will keep them from shrinking and not fitting back on. If you have a yard or balcony and it's dry &sunny, and even breezy, set them out there on clean lawn chairs or tables. Flip after an hour or so. And finish drying. You'll be surprised how quickly they dry. Unfortunately you need to plan ahead with the weather. It can be hot or cold, as long as it's sunny and NOT HUMID, you're good. If you really want be ambitious with your planning ahead, rent a carpet cleaner with a furniture attachment and clean the parts of your furniture that don't zip off, while your cushion covers are washing and drying. If not, just vacuum the rest REALLY WELL. Enlist the help of a friend or partner. The zipping back on is quite a workout. Especially if you have large cushions. It can be a little unwieldy.

    I am very happy that you considered what SHE wanted. All too often I see these makeover videos where they go through and make the place soul-less and don't consider what the person who lives there actually wants. Not everyone likes that minimalist style that's all too popular these days. And not everyone can just heartlessly get rid of stuff, it takes time.

    • @SpaceMakerMethod
      @SpaceMakerMethod  3 роки тому +2

      Absolutely! I understand we don’t all have the same style and while I absolutely love the minimalist look and feel... I know it’s not right for everyone. Some people still thought it was too cluttered in the end, but I think it suited her tastes and that’s all that matters! Clearer mind and a happy home.

    I think they will want the table back if they wish to eat comfortably.
    The coffee-table is unusable because of the stuff on top.
    The island is great for storage, but you can’t sit at it , because there is no legspace.
    The house is a lot nicer now, and they will have to live in it, to know if this is what they like.

I absolutely love the plant "overflow" in the lounge and the end table was honestly such a great idea! That being said, the kitchen was definitely my favorite room, and though I'm no baker at all it made me want to go right out and bake something. Just moving things into their appropriate rooms made a huge difference. Sometimes it does make sense to have things in weird places (I keep my socks in the living room bookcase because it’s next to the shoe cabinet and front door) but it seemed like this had gotten all mixed up because things didn’t fit in their right spaces and pushed other things into other spaces. Hopefully they feel more relaxed and comfortable in their space now. Makes me want to do a quick sweep of my space.

Remember most people can't keep things, 'displayed,' and it gets messy. Over all much better tho. If all those plants make Cayly happy then good for her, it's her home after all. For me, that would be FAR TOO MANY. All "I" see is too many plants causing too much clutter. This is why you shouldn’t rent an apartment without closet space. But if you do, you must buy or make closed storage units to contain all your stuff behind doors. Even if you have to make an entire wall of closed storage space in each room.
    It simply doesn’t work to buy a bunch of mismatched, inexpensive, skimpy open shelving units that are low to the ground and then display all your stuff in them as if it was worth displaying. It is not.
    When you have a tiny home with no closets, you do not buy 20 plants - you buy two or three wonderful plants that become beautiful focal points in your rooms.
    One bouquet per room is more than enough. But it had better be a wonderful bouquet in a wonderful vase and scaled to the proportions of the room.
    It is better to display one substantial quality piece of art than many small, inexpensive pieces of art.
    Don’t buy several postage-stamp-sized rugs. Buy one quality rug that takes up a good part the room and makes an impact. Most of the room’s furniture should sit on this rug.
    Magazines on a small coffee table should be displayed in a single stack, so as not to look crowded and busy. Coffee tables should have room for coffee.
    Display only what is worth displaying.

    • @SpaceMakerMethod
      @SpaceMakerMethod  3 роки тому +1

      These are all great points, but I think it’s also important to realize that everyone has different tastes. I like simple and minimal decor, but she happen to like busier and we used what she already had to create the spaces she wants. Over time she can change things out but she also will likely not be here much longer and it doesn’t make sense for her to just buy more expensive pieces for her place.
