- Today we're starting our 3rd round of decluttering in my mom's home. Because we put in so much work into the previous rounds, this declutter will be quicker and easier.To start our declutter, we're going to quickly sort through her small closet and see what she's willing to let go of so that she lightens her load and so that we can calm the chaos of this closet once again. I love your mom. My dad’s family is from Houston and I grew up in Lubbock; these episodes always feel like home.
haha I forget that not everyone speaks Texan. :) I remember when I first moved up to the PNW after high school and friends would constantly stop me as I spoke to ask me what I was saying... "What does 'dil mean?"
Home Free is an a cappella group founded in Minnesota, but their bass and one of the tenors are from the South. The Bass Tim Foust is from Lubbock, Texas had to translate when their tenor Austin Brown spoke. The Minnesotans had a hard time with his Georgia accent.
I am so grateful that I have pretty much reached the place that I donate almost everything, as opposed to trying to sell when it is time to let loose. If something is worth more than $30 or so, I will balance the effort vs return.
I completely agree! My mom and I have a favorite consignment store that we love to go to that's local, so it's pretty easy to take them all to that place and just drop them off. But I'm with you. There is a lot of work involved with selling clothes.
Oh, my goodness. I love your mom. She is just the greatest. Of course, the find of the century goes to the Kindle. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my tablet. Having my daughter's bunny here over the holidays gave new meaning to the term cord control. We had chicken wire, pillows, blankets, anything we could find to block him from chewing through cords. Pets are the best and the worst all at the same time!

I love your declutter videos with my Mom. After a year a grieving I have decided to declutter and use the thing I put up for good for years. Keep the things that bring me joy and are useful right now. I'm thinking of what my kids will have to deal with if I die unexpectedly. I dont want them to be overwhelmed will mine and their fathers things.
It's great to start, but only when you're ready. And I hope all those special items that you're keeping and now using will make 2024 a good one😜

He was shocked and excited! There was a slight hint of "of course it was in a pile of your papers"🤣 but mostly just happy to have it back. He immediately got up to charge it.

I live in San Angelo - what is the name of the consignment store?
It's called "A Second Look Consignment." It's downtown, close to the Cactus Hotel. It's amazing. The owner intentionally keeps prices low so that it remains affordable to everyone.

my mother is a hoarder. she has been doing work and i've been proud of her but there is a long way to go. i wish we worked together as well as you teo do. she always puts me in charge of washing things which is so disgusting and makes me pause to even start helping.
a note for the pant hanger, if you alternate the levels from front to back it'll take up less space in the closet - alternate each scarf up the ladder (hope you understand that).

April, I’ve notice you encountered her to hang onto items she was willing to part. Declutter is all about letting it go, even if you can’t sell it.
In those moments it’s because I know from other comments that she isn’t confident in letting ago. I think it’s more important to declutter with confidence than it is to declutter for a “number.”
For her situation, there wasn’t any harm in keeping it a little longer until she feels stronger about her choice and has more time to think about it rather than making a quick decision with the pressure of the camera.
Overall I find that being more patient in decluttering will lead to stronger, confident declutter muscles (rather than regret).
