I am one of those people that would have done the whole room at once. When I start doing something, I have to finish. Lol, I blame my mother. Lol
Yeah, me too. I just wanted to show a way to declutter that isn’t overwhelming to some people. ❤️
me too!
Yes! Just thinking about leaving it unfinished stresses me out. There's no way I could've done that in 15 min increments. If I stop once I get started I probably won't get back to it 😊
This is about progress, not perfection, it's not about doing all in one go or nothing at all but about understanding that something is better than nothing. Perfectionism is not a good thing.
Sometimes all you have is 15 minutes. She is showing that you can still accomplish big tasks in small bites. I say bravo!
Such a rewarding shot of all the things leaving your house! I always feel so much lighter after a declutter.
Thank you! I definitely feel a lot lighter!
Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Simply amazing.
My life has improved so much ever since putting perfectionism (and the accompanying procrastination) aside to tackle big projects like this in manageable chunks. To the people saying they could never leave the task in the incomplete state after 15 minutes, they don't understand the freedom that comes with your method. My spare room was a mess for so long back when I had that 'all or nothing' mindset. When I finally gave myself permission to start in just 1 corner, I could handle it without experiencing pain or decision fatigue. It probably got finished a lot sooner than if I thought I couldn't do it any other way than all at once. It doesn't necessarily have to be done on separate days either. You can do 2 or more sessions in a day but it's definitely beneficial to take breaks to recharge both mentally and physically. Some people just have such busy lives that carving out 15 minutes in a day is the only option.
Yes! I love it! Thank you for your comments. It’s so true!
Alo, you do such a great job of decluttering, explaining your process but not spending too much time on it and excellent editing! You deserve a LOT more subscribers!!
Aww, thank you! You made my day. ❤️
I agree, I've thought that for a long time
@@paulineward2068 Thank you! ❤️
Yes you do! Thank you for not cutting to annoying music every couple minutes!😊
@@DH-wq3mo Thank you! ❤
Decluttering in bite size chuncks is how I've been tackling my house.
It works great, doesn’t it?
I would put a board over the tub if you're not going to use it. Then you could put some shelves above it to store whatever is going in the room. My son has a guest room that had years of stuff cluttering it. He took all the books and put them in the library, boxing up almost a dozen boxes to be donated. Now he's able to finish the room. What can be done when you put your mind to it.
Smart! That is a really good idea! Thanks!
Hi Ali. Just wanted to say that your donations are someone’s blessing. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you! ❤️
I love the finished look…just space. 😊 You did an amazing job! 💜
Thank you!
You are an inspiration! I love you 15 minute declutters!
Thank you! ❤️
Fantastic job!!!🎉🎉 It's always such a great feeling to let go of useless and unused things!
Yes! Thank you!
Your community members in your local Buy Nothing Facebook group would really appreciate the donations over just dropping things off at goodwill! Guarantee someone would be incredibly grateful for the wonky vacuum!
Yes that is true and I considered it. Sometimes I just need it gone immediately and that is how I was feeling. I actually don’t donate to goodwill. It’s a place our church owns. They donate a LOT of stuff to people in need. And they hire people who may have a hard time getting jobs otherwise.
I set a timer also, so I don't get overwhelmed! Looks great!
Thanks! ❤️
So inspiring as usual. I would love to see what the room looks like now. Thank you for sharing your thought process as you declutter x
Oh my gosh! I totally forgot to edit that in. I realized I forgot to edit another thing in too. Oops!
⏳️ I did it today while I watched your vid.
Yay! 👏🏻
Wow that was really impressive. So much accomplished in such a short amount of time.
You are very good at letting go of things. That’s the key. Well done 🎉
Thank you!
I try this 15 Min. Method 👍🥰 thanks for sharing Jasmin 🌺🌷
You’re welcome!
Wow Ali! You are a rock star doing all that work in basically 45 minutes! I know it’s tough getting rid of some things that you paid for, never used and then donated! I have had to do the same thing. I hope you have a great day!
Thank you! ❤️
the frames are so cute! please use it!
Thanks! If I were better at decorating and actually putting decor up, I totally would!
I am a new subscriber. I am going to watch every video you put up in the past I missed, I love how you declutter. I will be doing the same thank you. You make sense out of how you declutter. I followed many others, but you to me by far is the best for me! Have a lovely rest of the week !
Yay! Thank you! You made my day. ❤️
Definitely donate the pieces for the carpet cleaner. Great idea for the 15 timer for each day
Thanks!
Your a great inspiration to me to work on my closet which is very hard because everything seems to be sentimental. Not that I use it or need it don’t know what to do with it.
Sentimental clutter is hard. I wish you luck! ❤️
Great video. I like doing anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes maintenance on areas, as I'm pretty organized to begin with. I've been there when you take your items off to be donated, and you're second guessing your decisions, but in the end you know if feels good and a big weight has been lifted.
Thank you!
You did a pretty great job! Manageable and no stress. I'm in the process of practicing Swedish Death Cleaning. I think you're too young for that. I encourage you to continue. You seem to still be stuck on "I may do something with this someday." Let it all go. If you need something like it later, buy it. Your tastes will have probably changed. You will be at a different place in your life. Great job!!!
It’s true! I do get stuck on that. 😬
Whenever I have something that is broken in some form, I list it for free on the local classifieds online and there are always people who want those things. That way, it doesn’t just get thrown out if you donate it and they see it’s broken and assume it doesn’t work anymore.
That’s smart! Next time for sure.
Good job! Bisous de France 😘
Thank you! ❤️
If you’re going to use the vacuum, keep it. If not, donate it. You can use a small bungee cord to keep it upright. Your decluttering exercise was a success!
Thanks for the tip! I did donate it. 😬
Is there a vacuum shop near you? Ours takes old vacuums for parts, and carpet cleaners, as well.
I just found your channel recently. I love your 15 minute declutters! Thanks for doing this series!
That would have been smart!
Ahhh…I love decluttering! So satisfying. Unfortunately my husband and son have hoarding tendencies so I have to be sneaky about it and can’t get rid of everything that I would heave. Sigh
I’m sorry! That has to be hard. ❤️
@5:15 use the lids as a decorative 'tray' to make use in case you do ever change it up and want the lids for the containers
Good idea!
With the carpet cleaner, I'd post it in my local buy nothing group or on Facebook marketplace (for free). I've gotten rid of so much stuff that way 😅
I set it outside, someone comes by and I don't have to see or talk to anyone lol
Good idea! I’ve done that several times before.
@erinstine
Great job! Unrelated: I love that V neck blue/green shirt on you! Where did u get it?
Sams club! It was around $10, too!
I’d donate the carpet cleaner - it still works and someone else can make good use of it. I had a similar problem with a carpet cleaner that I lent to a friend and when I got it back, it never stood up again!
Oh no!
I did donate it! Thanks!
We're in a 2BR apartment near Chicago. I toss, recycle, or give away at least 20 items each day. I do lots of crafts, my husband and daughter are disabled.
They have their own stacks of books, tchotchkes, and hobby materials. They hand me items to donate. Tina, Al's wife
Hi Tina! It sounds like you have a good system going. Nice work!
Use the wooden lids as chopping boards or platters for cheese and fruit
I never thought of that. Thanks!
I am a suckered for containers, and I would have hung onto those storage bins and clear containers since you're still working on decluttering and organizing. As you rearrange areas, you might like some of them. But they can pile up.
Hang up your family photos. They were nice.
I would never throw away something that worked except for one part. Donate it, and explain why.
I kept most of the containers! I keep current family photos up in our living room already. The ones I decluttered are old. Thanks for watching!
I just realized I forgot to edit in the final result (thanks Pauline for reminding me)! So sorry! I’ll post it on my community page. This link should take you to my community page: ua-cam.com/channels/P5MdDPkn5rv7ZsNx5hi6Xg.htmlcommunity
What is your community page
@@katiecauffman1902 This link should take you there. But you can also do it another way (for future reference). If you click on my channel name under my video, it will pull up my channel page. From there, there is a tab that says community. ua-cam.com/channels/P5MdDPkn5rv7ZsNx5hi6Xg.htmlcommunity
The 15 minute rule doesn’t quite work for The Doom Room (as I call mine) because the stuff has to be pulled out to be sorted and then gets in the way until the next time I can declutter.
I get that. Have you tried Dana K White’s method?
Do you have a vacuum repair shop near you?
Possibly, but I already donated it! I probably should have thought about that first.
Ask the donate store. Put a sign on it that says it works but doesn’t stay upright.
Good idea!
You got rid of so much stuff, you should be proud.
Thank you!
Would you ever turn it into a functional bathroom? even if just a toilet
Not likely! We already have toilet downstairs and don’t need another. 😬
Not likely! We already have toilet downstairs and don’t need another. 😬
Some guy may know how to fix the carpet cleaner..pin a note on it to explain it needs a new part to hold it upright.
Good idea. Thanks!
Love= underwear for Christmas 🙂
You know it! Haha. Gotta fill up those stockings with cheap stuff! 😆
I would donate the carpet cleaner but put a note on it that the only thing that is wrong with it is that it won't stand up by itself
Good idea! Thanks!
I’d put the wet vac on fb marketplace for free or a local buy nothing group, someone will want it
Thanks for the suggestion!
For the cleaner , I would still donate with a taped note that the only broken thing is it's ability to stand.
Good idea! Thanks.
Not sure if my comment went through , thx
This one did. 😬
To answer you question: Yes. My entire house 😬
Well, that’s why you’re here, right?! You can do it.
Donate the floor cleaner
I did! Thanks.
Contact the company of the carpet cleaner for a spare part
That would have been a good idea, but the part was attached to the entire vacuum. You'd have to replace the main portion of the vacuum.
I totally wouldn’t be able to shut my brain off without completing it. 😢
I used to be like that too. It’s taken some practice!
Put the tree in the basement
This is in my basement. 😬
I'd put the carpet cleaner on the classifieds for free.
I considered that. 🤔
Ali, not Alo!
Toss it
I did! 👏🏻
Why can’t the bathroom get finished? You just don’t need it?
Yes, we don’t need it. We have 1 bathroom down there already next to the 2 bedrooms. This bathroom is next to my husbands office and it just isn’t necessary. And I don’t have to clean another bathroom!
@@reallifewithali that’s great!! What will you use it for now that it’s cleaned out?
Just storage. I’m hoping to maybe put in some shelves to maximize the space. Now I have more room to hide Christmas presents. 😬 But if it stays the way it is now, I would be totally happy!
Liked that uou showed going to the donation centre but you didn’t show any before and after pictures. Disappointing
I did show the before, but I know I totally forgot to show the after! I was so mad at myself. www.youtube.com/@reallifewithali/community If you scroll down a little ways on this, I posted a before and after!
