Basic Pilot Radio Communications | Non-Towered Airport

- If you are new to flying, talking on the radio as a student pilot probably sounds intimidating. Come along with Cheyenne and I as she makes her first pilot radio calls in the local traffic pattern of a non-towered airport.
Here is my list of recommended things to purchase if you are just getting started flying. Regardless of where you learn to fly, it is good to have these on hand. The FAA manuals can be downloaded for free but I still prefer to have a printed copy. You can purchase from Amazon here:
AIRPLANE FLYING HANDBOOK amzn.to/3WmsIfi
PILOTS HANDBOOK OF AERONAUTICAL KNOWLEDGE amzn.to/37XxsE2
FAR/AIM amzn.to/3vkXsln
PILOT LOGBOOK I recommend if just getting started: amzn.to/3zOxfxi
and also download pdf versions for free from the FAA here:
www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...

Here’s a helpful Advisory Circular on communicating at a non-towered airport.

These videos are for informational and entertainment purposes. They are not intended to replace instruction from your certified flight instructor. FAA regulations and procedures change periodically so stay up to date on the current rules and regulations with your instructor.
Solid video, subscribed. Please make more videos like this for newbies 👍
Thanks for watching, I'll certainly be working on more to come.
Newbies like us tend to get task saturated and hard to remember the right phrases and it is much easier to just copy experienced pilot’s words for different occasions: like pattern work and airport approach. Please also add some a little bit more complicated dialogues:like request different options, holding pattern until base called. By the way, the closed caption in the video is great because voice quality is not solid over radio. Closed caption clears all the ambiguity!
Thank you very much we've been waiting for this
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
@@FreedomFlight1 my pleasure sir
Outstanding Cheyenne !
Thanks Dad, you’re next!
Awesome radio calls Cheyenne :)
Thanks for watching!
This is exactly the info I was looking for. Thank you. I Had a hard time remembering what to say while taxing before departure so this video really helped.
Glad it was helpful!
This is awesome, starting my flight training at heritage with Vaughn College
That’s great, congrats on taking your next step, you won’t regret it! Thanks for watching.
Yes great camera work, admire all these young women that are interested in aviation.
Thanks for watching!
thanks man!!! really helpful
Thanks for watching!
Great video! How did you get those amazing camera angles off the sides of the wings? Doesn't look like the camera is attached at all to the plane! Awesome!
Thx Ty. It’s an Insta360 One X2 camera on a FlightFlix.net pole. Creates some cool perspectives.
@@FreedomFlight1 It sure does! Love your videos so far - can't wait to see more! I'm just starting to get interested in general aviation and hope I can afford to go for my private pilot's license myself soon.
That was my question. Very neat view.
Great job. Love those camera angles.
Thanks for watching!
Good video and good job Cheyenne. Talking on the radio can be initially intimidating, recommend always talking with confidence. Also, when in controlled airspace, ATC folks are usually pretty helpful to inexperienced pilots. Fly safe…
Thanks for watching Jay.
She nailed it. I remember my training, not as smooth.,,,good best practice is to “role model” this one the GROUND. Not her, she nailed it, but I would like to talk this BEFORE we go up.
Thanks for watching floppy g!
Im from Australia and would really love someone like you to train me up.
Wish I could! Thanks for watching, more to come soon.
Hey dude super video have you got any tips for my first test flight I don’t know I just feel kind of anxious and panicky and claustrophobic I mean do you have any tips really love flying I really am a bit worried
Thanks for watching. Just let your flight instructor know that you are anxious (but yet excited). Ask to make your first flight a short one and very basic. I think when you get up in the air you're going to be surprised how calm and relaxing it is and soon all those fears will fade away. Flying in a small plane is an ultimate feeling of freedom. Let me know how it goes!
i find talking with ATC is easier than non towered Air Ports. All i have learned out of is Class Delta underneath Bravo space.
I can sometimes agree with that. Especially if you are familiar with towered airport and know what to anticipate. Thx for watching!
Was look in for the links to order the manuels but did not see them what would be the FA website to order the manuels from
Hey thanks for watching. Click on the down arrow at the bottom of the description and it should open up more text, the links are there. I just tried them to make sure they still work! Great books, a must have.
I have a question about saying Hidden Valley at the end. What was that apart of for the 4 Ws.
Hey good question, I just added another link in the video description for you to download. It’s an advisory circular from the FAA that gives us guidance on how to communicate at a non towered airport. Look at section 10.1.1.
@@FreedomFlight1 Great, thank you. I will take a look at it.
"Back Taxi" . . . In Canada we call it "Back Tracking" same difference!
Very true! I fly to Canada periodically with my airline job. “Back Track” actually makes more sense if you ask me. Thx for watching.
Its also called back track in Europe
Where are you guys located?
I am in the north Texas area, however, we are not a flight school. Thanks for watching!
@@FreedomFlight1 a little discovery flight doesn’t hurt nobody
Where is the school ?
We are in the north Texas area but are not a flight school. I am an independent instructor.
