More impressive than the flying is the level of respect in these comments. The way you're able to accept both praise and constructive criticism is admirable: Keep it up!
Hey man, great video! Nice editing and nice panel, btw! Just, wanted to share something with you; Don't under estimate the value of the "heads up" taxi. Loading GPS data, playing with CDIs, etc, are all good ways to get your first prop strike. God forbid of course, but people have hit other people, pets, cars, aircraft, hangars, cones, poles, etc, because they were taxing while doing everything but looking out the window. It's never a good habit, I promise. Not reprimanding you - I've been in this biz for two decades and have totally made my fair share of mistakes. Just looking out for you!
It doesn't matter how good a pilot you think you are. Even if you have a photographic memory, you should always back everything up with the checklist. It only takes 1 time to skip or miss something, especially as fast as you breeze through your flows. It only takes 1 time and you definitely don't want it to cost a life, including your own.
I do a flow and back it up by the checklists on my ForeFlight. I completed all checklists but I needed to edit things out so the video wasn’t 45 mins long.
Old school before we had the new electronic checklist, we had to learn to use them. USAF pilot training 1968. Later in life I owned a Bonanza with two other pilots. When flying with one of them, I always urged the use of a checklist. You are doing a good job. Very professional.

Hey man I am a pretty well versed ASEL/IFR pilot and a student of commercial aviation up at University of North Dakota. I have experience with thunderstorms, both in Florida and many places elsewhere. Flying underneath thunderstorms is a very ill advised idea, the FAA recommends at least 20NM from cells the size you were right next to. Hail, Microbursts, Wind-shear, and lightning are just a few deadlier hazards that can get you in that scenario, it’s just a matter of when. If I were you, don’t file IFR or fly even VFR anywhere near a thunderstorm like that; being below it doesn’t mean anything. It’s not worth your airframe and it’s not worth your life. Just remember airliners don’t even go that close to extreme precipitation and thunderstorms which means you definitely shouldn’t be. Tailwinds
I appreciate the comment and your advice. I’m aware the FAA recommends 20mm from a cell and 99% of the time I follow that recommendation. This time was a little different due to active military airspace but I felt confident becuse multiple other aircraft went through the same route. Regardless of that after looking back on the video multiple times if I had to do it again I probably wouldn’t have, but I did and I’m taking it as a learning experience.
Living in the U.K., I’ve always wanted to fly home to family in Ireland in an aircraft such as this, as it would make for a fun hop across the Irish Sea - there is a Catholic church in JFK dedicated to Our Lady of the Skies, the Patroness of all pilots
He conceded he had an "out" if things "got bad" which means he entertained the idea that they could. Given there was a chance he might have to execute his escape route the decision to go was problematic. I get it, though: he's 17, on fire with the passion of flight, and this is what 17-year olds do. The thing that really scares me are the people who expressed they are learning to fly or want to and thought this was a masterclass in flying.
It looks like you have a Stormscope, but it does not appear to be on. If you have one, they are great tools for keeping you away from thunderstorm activity. Not really useful for tactical maneuvering around or through them, but excellent for strategic avoidance.
impressive stuff! having done my cpl ME/IR at an integrated school, the way the flows and checklists are done in such a rush and while taxiing gave me slight anxiety :) Also, how does it work when you pick up an IFR clearance in the air? seems strange to me but ive seen it done quite a lot in videos from the US.
The restricted airspace and helicopter traffic with the usual traffic there makes a pilot pay a lot more attention than compared to others Class C places.

As others said, you were a total pro throughout, But I don't know I just feel like this flight might have been an unnecessary risk. I mean that with the greatest of respect buddy.
I appreciate the comment. I do know of Dan Gryders videos. The cells were only on the coast and it was clear skies inland (My FPL I filed for was inland avoiding the storms) but atc had a different idea. If I ever feel uncomfortable I knew I could always turn around. Calculated risk that I felt comfortable in that I could get out in a bad situation
hey get your turn cooradinator checked next annaul/periodic as its bearings are getting worn. its why it sounds like jet engine starting. Love the video!
Nice flight. Thanks for taking me along. Your procedures are good across the board. The video doesn't address this, and I didn't hear you say anything, but does selecting VFR approach on the Garmin provide you with any vertical guidance? Always good to have some backup vertical guidance like a glide slope or LVN GPS approach if there's something available on your landing runway. You most certainly had a PAPI or VASI on your VFR approach, and I'm not critical of you. It was a good flight. Perhaps RNWY 26 doesn't have any IFR approaches. Those kinds of runways still exist. But if there is an approach to back yourself up with, it's not a bad practice. Keep safe.
