What is funny, and 100% accurate in this video, is the way the "student" keeps looking at the instructor when radio calls are being made. I passed my PPL in Dec 2020 and I must have looked at my instructor 1000 time for some kind of acknowledgement, approval or just help me please. I still say and think that radio communication/radiotelephony is the hardest thing when learning to fly at the start, then one day it just all falls into place. you're both doing amazing.
👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 me too! I’m training in Nairobi, Kenya for my CPL, and before I got my PPL, I would always look at my instructor wondering WTF? What’s going on here on the radios? I am now way better with the comms! Practice makes perfect and a good pilot is always learning! 😉
I totally agree that radio calls are the hardest when starting out. It is also the item that can really screw one up if they get a call wrong. Experience talking here. Once made a REALLY bad call before take-off and was a total mess in the air with things I knew how to do afterwards.
I can’t wait to see her solo, she seems to glow with joy and happiness. She will solo in no time. She is very smart and has a great personality. She seemed pretty comfortable and seems to enjoyed learning. I can tell you have already worked on communications with her. You are a great couple. She will go as far in aviation as she wants to. Great date night.
LIFE Mastery. That is the only reason why I'm here learning from this channel. With flying skills applied to life you will get where your going alot faster with less traffic etc Key take aways: know where your at in life. Know where your going Place your order Make it clear Write key points down and so much more in this video..... Thank you
Jason: "Don't worry about it, everyone makes mistakes". Magda: "Ocala ground 23MZ". Ground: "23MZ Ocala towe uhhh Ocala ground". Did you slip him a $20? That was right on cue.
At a lot of smaller airport towers, its the same controller running both ground and tower. They'll forget which one their on often. Happens from time to time at my home airport (about an hr south of him).
I am a 67 year old GA pilot and aircraft owner. I own an O-1 Birddog and I must admit your videos are great learning tools. I watch them all the time as I do other aviation training videos as well. I only have about 500 hrs but now that restoration on my plane is almost complete I plan to increase those number greatly. I believe a good pilot is always learning or at least should be. Thank you for posting the videos and keep up the good work and best of luck to you with your company.
I've just decided to get my private license and found your channel. I LOOOOOVE your positive style of training and the vibe you give when you're training as well. By far, this is my favorite aviation related channel!!
Hey Jason and Magdna (hope I spelled that right). You two are an inspiration to me. I am currently a private pilot (53 yrs of age) who has not been flying for about 6 years. But I am preparing to get back in the air. I miss it too much. My end goal is to be a CFI. I am currently an instructor in the aviation industry, but not for pilots. I am also an A&P. Thank you both for being amazing, inspirational, and motivating people. I will be joining the online ground school very shortly for my instrument training. Goal is by the end of Sept. thanks again so much for being you. Also on a personal note, I love to hear your faith coming shining through when you are teaching in your videos. You and your family have a blessed and amazing day.
Our controllers during a tower tour said “takeoff” is their term so pilots need to say “departure” on initial tower contact. Then when they say “cleared for takeoff” read back can include the term “takeoff.” Makes sense.
That is a good point! Standard phraseology is critical for safety. A great case study to look at where non-standard phraseology led to disaster is the KLM accident Tenerife.
Absolutely! The same applies in Kenya. We as pilots always say “ready for departure” as we hold short of the active runway. Only when we have line up the runway and are given clearance to take off, do we read back the clearance... “Cleared for take off runway **, right/left turn off, “call sign”!”
I haven't even started or selected a ground school yet, but Jason is extraordinary; both in knowledge AND articulating what is needed at a given time. I'm just wowed. You make it look so easy, but it isn't exactly easy. But your encouragement of your beautiful lady and also patience and teaching is so good! Thank you both, SO much.
Jason your partner is so humble and you are lucky one to have her. Wish you both happy life. The radio communication was awesome and I have learned more about it today than before. Keep up the good work of uploading these kind of learning videos.
@@nathanaller2835 Several years ago Jason and his former partner decided to take separate paths, and both have restarted their personal lives with wonderful people, independent from each other. Thank you for your support, respect, and love for aviation.
So honestly one of the things that has helped me the most is entertaining UA-cam ATC videos. After hundreds of them my brain just picked it up and with actual training, figured out what were good and bad behaviors. It’s one of my favorite parts of flying lol. Feel like a kid with a walkie talkie.
Oh! The love of your life!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’m watching this now and have been following MZeroA for a bit. I like that you mention that making mistakes is part of the science of learning! She did such a wonderful job on the comms! Well done to her!😉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Jason, you're great. Your books helped me through my PvT and Ira, but as a CFI... I have to call you out on advising a student to accept A2. Then switching to A1 while leaving that deviation clearance out of the video. LOL I still think you do a great job. Keep it up, brother.
I am starting my flight school in about a month and was told to watch your videos, that I would learn a lot and boy were they right, I love the way you explain things, and make it fun and easy to understand! I’ve loved aviation since I was 3, air races, air shows, anything to do with planes I loved! Growing up I just thought something like flying a plane was out of my reach, but with some good friends encouragement im taking the leap and going for it! Thank you for all you do for the aviation community and these great videos that I’ve already learned so much from! 👊🏻
Love seeing you guys flying together and seeing her taking the comms she is doing such a great job and picking it up so well. Please keep up the great videos
What a relief it was to find this video and channel. I'm taking my first solo in a few days and I know radio communications is my weak point. I was practicing along with this video making the calls to help me out. Great video.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I stopped training for my PPL about 4 years ago. Watching this video I realized that mastering flight is the final step in taking control of my life. I need to do an online ground school refresher and then get back into training. I've got about 20 hours to go unless I have to start over. My last flight involved 5 touch and go's at Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania. The radio communications had me rattled. I think if that I watch and perfect the radio communication I can finish my hours and pass my exam.
Loved the idea the student "only" doing calls without the stress of flying, to. The role playing and note taking before transmitting are good ideas. Her calls were good and got better as was mentioned. BTW--I noticed that Magda had a pretty good scan going, too.
I watched this video while my wife was in the room (she's not a pilot nor interested in becoming one BTW) while she was working on something for work. I caught her looking up, watching, taking the lesson in, and actually getting some take-a-ways! She said she would absolutely have to write the calls down like Magda did and was so impressed with your calm, reassuring teaching style. I'll be watching more with her so maybe someday I can get her to fly with me. And, we both think Magda did a fantastic job on the radios!!
Got my CFI in 1992... 1500+ hours and several years later, Got away from aviation. Back now and relearning all from PPL through CFII. Just wanted to drop a comment and express appreciation for you and your channel. Over the last couple years I have definitely found a difference between what I would call professional flight instructors, and those with slightly less dedication, although I suppose that has always been the same. Keep up the good work my friend!
Thanks for watching, George! Best of luck in your transition back to the skies! Please reach out to us at support@mzeroa.com if we can help you in anyway with your journey. Fly safe!
Excellent video. It took me over an hour to go through it as I was practicing and writing down everything, going back to review and listen again. I was so stressed out. She did lot better then I did. Your videos are so real life flying. "Runway heading"! I would freaked out on a solo if I hear that. Thank you so much for your effort to bring aviation closer and safer to so many of us.
Really appropriate given the recent tragedy at Watsonville. Thanks for demonstrating and teaching the proper, courteous, and safe way to approach and land at an un-towered field.
Looked for this video because you (Jason) referenced in a current video. Loved it. Appreciate the clarity of instructions, the reasons, your patience with Magda, and your encouragement over all. Watching your videos helps to ignite the joy of flying instead of just completing tasks. Thank you!
Great job Magda! Much better than my second time on the radios. Jason love your patience and calm demeanor as you teach. Never rushing or pressuring which really lowers anxiety for the student. Great job both of you!
This was amazing...Magda’s confidence grew in front of us all...you both are on to something here....especially the non-sanctioned responses to tower!! Great job.
Really cute video. Fun to watch Magda honestly struggle and grow. Thank you for that authenticity. You guys have great chemistry and years of fun flying together ahead.
Jason, I really enjoy watching your videos, and I've learned so much from you. Just want to tell you that you have the gift of teaching. Glad you and Magda found each other. Many clear skies ahead for you both!
This is just awesome, I'm working on my PPL and sometimes I was frustrated by radio communication. But I improved a lot recently practicing on the App. And listening to Jason. Jason Sir! Your knowledge enthusiasm is second to none. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you for this. I am nearing at the end of my training in helicopters, those radio calls are nerve racking. This helped calm the anxiety and is helpful in the situation. I will implement the strategy of letting the instructor fly while I make the calls. Just to get comfortable, and yes, it is different in the rotorcraft as far as no free hands but i again thank you
Magda was amazing on the comms! I have to give credit to Jason for getting me confident with my radio calls. I fly out of KBKV and learning about “make it like ordering pizza” really made it easy to comprehend! And I preordered my copy of aviation mastery as well. Cannot wait for it!
Great video! It is even better with the student co-pilot because she adds student perspective and makes it more realistic than with just the Pilot (because he is already an expert and you can tell it is already very easy for him).
This is absolute genius! Everything about this is perfect. The content, and editing, the delivery. Everything about this is perfect. Thank you so much!
Jason love your positive attitude and your attention to science of learning and your spirit of gratitude! Awesome video! Your wife is great proof of your effective methods!
I can see my self in Magda , I just go my Private Certificate but I’m not proficient with my radio calls in tower airports . Magda you did great , keep it up . This video really helped me a lot. Please don’t stop making this type of videos . Have a Great day ! A good Pilot is always learning 😄
what a fantastic instructor and overall person! i teach firearms safety and basic/advance marksmanship. i have always strived to be a good teacher. no egos and no show boating. he makes it fun! i enjoy making the experience fun and safe!
A few years ago I decided to get back into flying. I started at an uncontrolled field and finished at a tower field. After 20+ years I didn't have radio comm together at all. It didn't take long and I still make mistakes but I don't get nervous about it. Magda did great!
Jason rocks as an instructor. Magda did great. She has a super sweet voice. Thanks for sharing. I always learn something. Gonna fly tomorrow and practice my bad radio skills to improve them.
My man you are awesome you never have a bad personality and you know so well how to deal with people around you. Keep up the great vids n happy Valentine's day
I really appreciate all you do for us. I watch all your videos that I can find. You are so down to earth and a real person. I feel like your my friend even though I have never met you. Waiting on the book to come out.
Fantastic video!! I love it! I am a Spanish passengers balloon pilot and now im studding to ICAO 5 examen and you have help me a lot! Because I have seen how is communicate with the ATC. The flying instructor is magic and also de copilot of this pretty Cesnna! Thanks again!
This was so easy to follow, great that you covered different scenarios in this video. Really helped me with unicom, Thanks. All the best from Devon, UK
This is an excellent demonstration of Proper Radio Communications with ATC. This is one of my biggest challenges as a new private pilot currently in training here in Sarasota. Thanks tor the helpful video instruction.
I took a discovery flight last June in an LSA. My instructor let me handle the radios at KRAC, but he wanted to handle the communications when we went through the Milwaukee Class Charlie airspace since it was my first time flying in a real plane. However, after I told him how familiar I am with using the radio through Flight Simulator sites like VATSIM and PilotEdge, he said I could handle the communications with Approach and Tower next year!
@Magda, as a student pilot struggling with radio calls, I thank you for such a sincere and earnest effort to your learning. After watching you and Jason work through your calls my confidence is up and I'm going to nail my calls on my next lesson and really impress my CFI!...@Jason, just finished watching your landing at Oshkosh video. Nice rock brotha!😁🛩
Excellent, very comprehensive and maps to the student, just what they need to know. I had fun on this take-along. Learning this was is a fulfilling experience.
Your catchphrase here is, “A good pilot is always learning,” but in my opinion, another one could be, “ A good pilot learns something new every time they watch or re-watch an MZeroA video!”
Brother I just came across your page. I know this is a old video but you and the young lady are a good team. Your positiveness on instruction is great. I am going to use your videos for my youth flight simulation. Keep up the good work.Oh yes I just subscribed.
I am also having trouble with my radio calls so this is a great option to just focus on radio calls and have someone else fly the plane. As hand flying the plane and doing radio calls can be a lot going on. I think I will add this into my training schedule. Magda you did an amazing job and Jason you did ok LOL
Writing everything down helped me out so much as well! Eventually it'll be second nature! I also used PilotEdge and it helped IMMENSELY, great job though ! Jason as instructor and Magda as student. Fav aviation channel !!
I did a discovery flight in Raleigh last week, and my instructor let me handle the radios for the first portion (thanks to videos like this)! However, toward the end, he forgot to turn up the volume for my radio!
Greetings from Oregon! I'm just starting my pilot licensing adventure and I'm loving having you two along to help me! Thanks for the awesome videos, you two are great!
This is amazing, recently I started my flight training and I know how is challenging to talk to ATC. The first two-three flight was so difficult for me just to catch what the ATC was saying. Still, I'm facing difficulty with my radio communication, but I hope it will get better before my SOLO.
Hello! It takes a lot of practice but it really comes down to expecting what ATC is going to tell you next. Many radio calls are very routine and many follow the same format and include the same information. It just takes time and practice. You'll get it down soon!
A funny moment from my training... I made a not so great landing and called back-taxi. I forgot to take my finger off the push-to-talk button and referring to my landing said, "Man! That really sucked." Thankfully it was a quiet day at N68 and I don't think too many people heard me, but was embarrassing all the same, lol! Thanks for the great video! Looking forward to my PPL checkride, September 27...
Mate I have to say I've only just started watching your videos but I love how well explained everything is and how clear your explanations are when I start my flight training you channel is definitely going to be a major part of my learning thank you keep it up mate
Loved this video. Love watching her progression. I hope you keep making these type of videos through every phase of her training. Now that I think about it, I don’t think there has ever been a channel that followed a fresh student pilot. Maybe make a separate series like you did with the safer pilot challenge!
Hi Jason, I just wanted to say that watching this video I could really connect with it. I fly out of KWVL in Maine and I am used to being the only pilot on the field but now that I am spending more time in class C airspace like KBGR and KPWM actually talking to people is a bit more intimidating...lol anyway great job and I love your videos
Fantastic job Mrs. Schappert! Thank you for allowing us to watch and learn through you and "that other guy" who acts like he knows how to fly. LOL ;) Joking, of course. Thank you both for a great video and to all of you at M0A.
Your videos are extremely helpful. I feel as if i am getting individual instruction. Thank you again for your time. Exactly what i need getting back into flying.
Excellent video dude. You are a great instructor. One nit...usually when a controller releases you (from flight following) they like to hear back "squawk VFR, frequency change approved" so they know, you know you are off both their squawk and radio.
What is funny, and 100% accurate in this video, is the way the "student" keeps looking at the instructor when radio calls are being made. I passed my PPL in Dec 2020 and I must have looked at my instructor 1000 time for some kind of acknowledgement, approval or just help me please. what a fantastic instructor and overall person! i teach firearms safety and basic/advance marksmanship. i have always strived to be a good teacher. no egos and no show boating. he makes it fun! i enjoy making the experience fun and safe!
Thanks for watching!
A few years ago I decided to get back into flying. I started at an uncontrolled field and finished at a tower field. After 20+ years I didn't have radio comm together at all. It didn't take long and I still make mistakes but I don't get nervous about it. Magda did great!
Thanks for the kind words, Michael!
As a UK pilot coming across to do some flying in the states, this was very helpful.
Jason rocks as an instructor. Magda did great. She has a super sweet voice. Thanks for sharing. I always learn something. Gonna fly tomorrow and practice my bad radio skills to improve them.
Thanks for the kind words! Keep on practicing!
Perfect video for me, I'm doing my first cross country flight tomorrow and this is exactly what I need to get ready!
We are glad you found the video helpful! Best of luck with your cross country tomorrow :)
My man you are awesome you never have a bad personality and you know so well how to deal with people around you. Keep up the great vids n happy Valentine's day
Thanks for the kind words, Henry!
I really appreciate all you do for us. I watch all your videos that I can find. You are so down to earth and a real person. I feel like your my friend even though I have never met you. Waiting on the book to come out.
Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Jason Magda, you guys are awesome.
Great job Jason and Magda! Love the enthusiasm from both of you! A lot of good info! Thanks
Thanks for tuning in John!
Thank you Jason for another great video. You keep these videos alive with enthusiasm. Always refreshing. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind feedback!
Thank you for posting this video! Radio communication is going to be the biggest hurdle in my PPL training & I found your instructions very helpful!
Excellent, very comprehensive and maps to the student, just what they need to know. I had fun on this take-along. Learning this was is a fulfilling experience.
We are glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the feedback.
Really appreciated us seeing her learn the radio calls bit by bit. I think Im getting it now. Just learning.
Glad we could help, Gene! Keep on practicing!
Jason, you're an awesome teacher...Great work.
I am also having trouble with my radio calls so this is a great option to just focus on radio calls and have someone else fly the plane. As hand flying the plane and doing radio calls can be a lot going on. I think I will add this into my training schedule. Magda you did an amazing job and Jason you did ok LOL
Hello! Magda did do a great job! hahaha Keep up the practice and keep building your confidence!
Great training exercise. Reviewing what you wrote down and role playing at home is a great idea. Magda did wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it!
She did amazing thanks for this video it helped me a lot
Glad it helped!
Writing everything down helped me out so much as well! Eventually it'll be second nature! I also used PilotEdge and it helped IMMENSELY, great job though ! Jason as instructor and Magda as student. Fav aviation channel !!
Thanks for the feedback John! We'll have to take a look at PilotEdge.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!
You both did great! Thanks Jason and Magda.
Thanks for watching!
This guy is so positive, this channel gives you a great vibe! Thanks for the content mate, pretty cool!
Mate I have to say I've only just started watching your videos but I love how well explained everything is and how clear your explanations are when I start my flight training you channel is definitely going to be a major part of my learning thank you keep it up mate
Glad you are enjoying our videos! Thanks for watching, Paul!
Loved this video. Love watching her progression. I hope you keep making these type of videos through every phase of her training. Now that I think about it, I don’t think there has ever been a channel that followed a fresh student pilot. Maybe make a separate series like you did with the safer pilot challenge!
Thank you very much Paulie ! ✈️🥰
Thanks for the positive feedback, Paulie!
The level-up is award winning.
Thanks for watching!

Awesome video! Great job Magda, and Jason.👍🏼
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Jason, thanks for tuning in! Glad you are getting some good Class C practice!
What a beautiful couple! Great video. Thanks for your help on the radio!
Fantastic job Mrs. Schappert! Thank you for allowing us to watch and learn through you and "that other guy" who acts like he knows how to fly. LOL ;) Joking, of course. Thank you both for a great video and to all of you at M0A.
Thanks for watching, Jason!
Enjoyed this immensely thank you for sharing. Student pilot.
Great lessons along with an awesome vibe folks, cheers
Nice energy inside that cockpit, u make it really easy for students, nice job.
Thanks a lot!
Really nice radio voice. Clear pronunciation and nice pacing.
Thanks for watching, Keith!
i like the teaching method, and even when she stumbles she gets a Good etc. awesome
Great video. Well done guys. Helps many people around the world with radio calls.
She did great and this is an awesome video ! Thank you!!
Thank you April! ✈️🥰
@@magdariutort6003 your welcome! 😃
Thanks for watching!
Your videos are extremely helpful. I feel as if i am getting individual instruction. Thank you again for your time. Exactly what i need getting back into flying.
Glad we could help, Ron!
Excellent video dude. You are a great instructor. One nit...usually when a controller releases you (from flight following) they like to hear back "squawk VFR, frequency change approved" so they know, you know you are off both their squawk and radio.
Thanks for the feedback! Fly safe!
Good timing with this video, I've been departing class deltas going out to uncontrolled airports recently so this helps.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for tuning in!
At our Class Delta airport, ATC also wants to know the altitude so "VFR West 3000"... What a great interaction with you and your sweet Magda.
Thanks for the positive feedback, Robert!
You guys are great, what a special team!
Thanks so much!
definitely one of the best radio comms lessons for student pilots i've seen. wish i found this sooner =))
LOVE THIS! Thank you for explaining this. You are both AMAZING!
You are a GREAT instructor! Hope I get an instructor like you.
