I was an aviation weather forecaster for the US Air Force for 8 years. Can confirm that this is an absolutely excellent explanation. Wish I'd had this years ago. 😅
As a PPL student, I've watched a ton of weather videos, but this one takes the cake! It's hands down the best video I've come across for the PPL level, and it's really helped me out. In just 30 minutes, it condensed the five x two-hour metrology classes we had into one concise and easy-to-understand 30-minute video. It is a total game-changer!
Gee, in less than 30 minutes you summarized my entire course in meteorology. Brilliant! I had a few gaps of knowledge, for example the occluded front vs stationary front, that weren't well covered before. It is simpler than I imagined, I was just missing a few fundamentals. It's too bad weather news has degenerated into people reading the weather report with no idea what it means.
I am currently in my CFI training and honestly never liked weather through all my training. This is by far the best explanation that breaks it down so easily that I find it fun to watch. Now I’m motivated to even learn a lot more where weather is concerned. Thank you for taking the time out to Give this great easy to understand explanation.
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you got value out of this video. It’s funny, I’m kinda dumb so I have to make things as simple as possible in order to teach them and I have found that I still learn a lot in the process of making these videos. Thank you so much for watching! I’ll see you in the next one!
Meteorologist here. A great basic weather tutorial. I always have great conversations about METARs, and other weather phenomena (like Coriolis, Hadley Cell, orographic lifting, types of clouds, microbursts, etc) when I come across pilots, marine people, etc. Remember: in high pressure situations, the air is sinking so because it is moving to higher pressure near the surface, it generally heats up. Imagine going from a room with a few people to full of people (high pressure-->lots of molecules)--it will feel warmer. In low pressure situations, warmer air at the surface rises and cools--and droplets form. The cool thing about #weather is that you can simulate this in normal everyday situations. For example: Put a warm coke can in the fridge and after a few minutes, you'll see the water vapor on the outside (#condensation ). Condensation is a heating process for the environment-->in the case of the coke, the heat from the warm coke is moving to the outside environment creating the droplets on the outside (heating the air around it). To the contrary, #evaporation is a cooling process for the environment--like when you get out of the shower and you feel cold (#evaporativeCooling ) Enjoy the lessons!
lol. Ball Earth Theory. Your subtle and well-placed humor is very funny. When I catch it, I have to rewind and listen to it, and then re-rewind to listen to the lesson. Thanks for adding time to my studies.
Thanks so much for this page. Because of this page, I passed my checkride today! I went though the Kings course and it really didn’t help me with alot of the complicated stuff. These videos are much more helpful than any of the reading or other videos I watched. I always instantly looked for videos from this page when I needed help with a topic and they were here! Keep up the good work buddy. It’s really rewarding to see other pilots in here taking advantage of this page and succeeding too. I definitely plan to use this as a additional resource someday for students I may have
I have been following this channel for a couple of years, and I have watched this weather video while preparing for the Private written test, preparing for stage checks, and now preparing for the Private Checkride. I HIGHLY recommend the content that the USAF officer is making available to the aviation community.
I'm not a pilot. I did take 16 lessons , ran out of money. I just watched this video. Now I understand what the coriolis force meant. It make sense in my ground school book. You are a teacher. Thanks a lot
I have been searching high and low (no pun intended) trying to get a good explanation of weather. THIS IS IT! Your explanation of weather is clear, concise and comprehensible. And you are even fun to listen to to boot! Thank you!!!
I watch this video before every stage check and checkride and it's such a great overview refresher. About to finish my comm, and back here again. absolutely baller
I am not a pilot but have an interest meteorology and weather forecasting. This was a great video explaining the main points of our weather! Thank you for uploading!
Can’t express how much this helped me. This section of ground schools was tough to connect all the information and you made it extremely easy to understand! Thank you
I was losing my mind over Meteorology in Glider Pilot Ground School. Thank you so much for this! I feel like I have a solid foundation for the science now!
This was one of the best weather related videos I’ve seen. As I study]ied for my exam I realized I didn’t understand the weather concepts as well as I liked, and this helped immensely
This is a great refresher. Especially since I got my license in Southern California where the weather isn't very dynamic. I didn't have much experience or a very good understanding of convective weather or fronts early on in my flying career. Great video.
You are like a modern John and Martha King. You articulate better than any other teachers I have watched, and there are a lot of good ones out there. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
LEGENDARY! When I was learning thermodynamics, youtube blessed me with Ron Hugo. When I was learning statistics, youtube blessed me with statquest. And now when I'm in flight school, I find you. Thank you for these great vids!
Bravo. Iv'e leanred htis topic so many times (Both in the Airforce and civil), and your video is by far is the best way to review it. Summerized a full meteroligy in 30 min. Bravo dude..
I'm about to be a Flight Instructor and your video helped me a lot. I just want to say thank you so much and your presentation SHOULD be presented to all student pilots.
With all due respect to Sporty’s, this is a superior presentation than what is found in their ground school on aviation weather for private or instrument. Thank you for putting this together!
First, thank you for this UA-cam series. I've been quite impressed, but THIS is amazing! I almost feel this should be incorporated into every high school science curriculum.
I love all the analogies you give in this video. Hearing and seeing the analogies makes it much easier to comprehend and apply the concepts. Thank you!
weather is the hardest part of PPL training for me. thanks this was great. I had to rewatch sections multiple times to get it relatively down. But wrote down a lot of notes to review .
Im studying for my CFI ride coming up and watching your videos easily break down all these topics that I'll having to be teaching so hearing you explain it so simply really helps me out! Thank you and ill be recomending all my students to your channel!
Thanks so much for all the work you do with your videos. They are awesome! You do such a great job explaining along with all of your visual aids. You are much appreciated!
I wish I saw this before my written. All the answers I missed were atmospheric conditions. It was something I could grasp during ground school. This helped tremendously!
The best explanation I've ever seen. So much information and presented so visual which makes it so easy to understand. Thank you for creating and sharing this fantastic video.
Great presentation and wonderfully explained with a narrative as good as the slides that accompany it. I recommended this clip to my son to help him grasp an otherwise, often confusing, but necessary subject matter for flying safely and efficiently.
I just started my PPL training, i had to pause the video every 10mins or so, it is so dense and packed with information, thank you so much for taking the time to create this masterpiece. I have a ton more questions now but i know where to look up the answers. Thank you!
@@FreePilotTraining yes they do, i basically just continued watching and taking notes, and after that will just need to fill some of the gaps. Thank you again!

Amazing video ever!! It is really simple and easy to understand. I had a hard time to understand and memorize all the weather and fronts part. Watching this video, I totally understand what it means now! I really appreciate it! I will come back to watch it again😊

This was the BEST video on WX I’ve ever seen, it’s a 2 hour presentation in 20 minutes! I’ll watch this before every checkride, thank you!
Thanks Chris! I appreciate that!
I second this.
Agreed. This was more informative and digestible than my entire weather lecture in ground school!
Same here
This is a fantastic presentation, thank you!
I was an aviation weather forecaster for the US Air Force for 8 years. Can confirm that this is an absolutely excellent explanation. Wish I'd had this years ago. 😅
Thanks man! That means a lot!
Ah yess if only they’d have helpful videos like this at the wx school house at Keesler.
thank you for your service 🙏 @jeffreystewart9809
I was also a weather forecaster in the Airforce for 6 years, and I 100% agree. I wish this video was available when I was in tech school in 2010.
