  • My medicinal garden contains healing herbs that can be used for SO many ailments. When I counted up all the medicinal herbs we cultivate or that grow wild we can forage near us, at last count there are over 100 of these. This is WAY too many for one video, so I'm planning to do several garden tours over the next months of summer and fall. Please let me know if you enjoy these by commenting, liking, and subscribing, and I'll add more tours. In this first tour of my medicinal gardens I share information about 8 different medicinal herbs. Enjoy! #medicinalgarden #herbalist #herbalism #HeidiVillegas #healingharvesthomestead #healinggarden

    I love your channel. I am a retired RN but have always been drawn to the more natural medicinals. I have become more adept at growing my own vegetable and herbs. I am soaking up your all of the information you give on your videos. I live in Central Florida so I am restricted to Zone 9b plantings. I feel encouraged to step a little further into herbalism from your channel.

      I'm like you! We didn't have red clover growing in Las Vegas, but there was plenty of white clover, and I'd eat those too, as a child. Thanks, Heidi! I started my rosemary from seed and it's struggling a little. Hopefully, it thrives this summer so I can bring it in over the winter. I have a question about the spearmint, lemon balm, and feverfew remedy you mentioned for stress headaches. Is that best administered as a tea or tincture? I get headaches at work and would love to stop taking medicine for them if possible.

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому +3

      Hi, Rachel! For what you describe, a combination of willow bark tincture (I have a video on this), spearmint, and lemon balm can be very helpful. Feverfew can be a nice addition. For migraines, feverfew, lemon balm, and spearmint are an excellent combination. You can use either a tea or a tincture for these herbs.

      Hi, Christina!!! SO glad you're joining us for this round of Ditch the Drugstore! Yes, actually, mints can hybridize, although I've not had this happen. It's possible. I'm planning to distill some fresh yarrow just as soon as I can get out there to forage some! I'm not growing enough yet in my patch to have the amount I need to distill---it takes a LOT of plant matter. I will at some point, but for now, I'm protective of my cultivated yarrow. I found ONE red clover growing in the front yard today lol. We have spearmint, peppermint, catnip and lemon balm growing prolifically but pennyroyal has literally taken over the entire pasture. Do you have any suggestions for its use since it’s not generally recommended to take internally? My daughter and I went to Mountain Rose Herbs today and bought a pack of 18 medicinal herb seeds that I’m so excited to plant. I have a cupboard full of tinctures and teas from “weeds” I’ve foraged and grown on my own property but there’s so much more to learn! I will definitely check out your herbal training course!

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому +1

      It sounds like you live in a GREAT place to grow medicinal herbs! If you slightly disturb the soil, this fall, plant your cover seeds right at frost time so they overwinter. Then you'll get your red clover in the spring! :-) **Pennyroyal may be indicated for some women's conditions, gout, and fungal infections, but yes, this is one herb that most herbalists now shy away from and keep as a low dose herb. I don't use it myself. :-)

    • @HeidiVillegas

      Yes! I plan on distilling lemon balm as soon as my patch is large enough. We're still in a cold, wet time here...this spring has been so strange! So, I'm starting with the spearmint and catnip...then hopefully the lemon balm will be ready!

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 роки тому

      The seeds are viable in the plant about 15 days or so after flowering. I'd go ahead and dry the flowers, and then see if you can garble out the seeds. Then plant these. Alternatively, you can purchase red clover seeds very inexpensively, too.
