@@UAVfutures I’m actually talking with Toms Petersons about some work you’re doing with DIYFPV. They invited the shop I work for (ProgressiveRC) to join their project.
I’ve got a product I’m releasing myself called the O3 Armer (makes for an easy build with FPV RC Cars or fixed wing using the O3 Air unit). I’ve got some already going to AU and NZ. It seems FPv RC cars might finally catch on now that we can get insane range with them (plus the regulations on anything that flies).

Wow, I had no idea about any of this. It kind of helps to explain how FPV drones got to the state they are now, still being as comparatively open as they are when the trend for everything else is to become locked down and proprietary.
There's one thing I want to add, the very early days when people were basically first inventing quadcopters, they used helicopter gyros. I saw people posting pictures and reports of this on some RC forum back in the day.
Now you can get different kinds of fixed wing RC airplane autopilots and flight stabilizers, but back then the easiest way to get an rc ready gyro was to get one of the ones meant to stabilize the yaw axis of RC helicopters. Their whole design was to try to hold the yaw access steady. I don't remember exactly how they wired them up now, but they used pairs of them to stabilize the x and y axis of those early home built quadcopters.
I don't know if they even had a way to control yaw with those things. The reports I read were just about trying to make them stable.
I must have been well and truly out of the loop by the time people started using gyros from wiimotes.
I haven't done exhaustive research into this so I'm not certain about it, but what I am certain of is that the first mention of a quadcopter style aircraft that I encountered what's on that RC forum. As far as I've been able to tell hobbyist RC pilots invented the entire electric multirotor concept that has become so influential today. And I've got to say, given the way governments around the world are trying to push them out of the air through onerous drone regulations designed to favor big business, I don't think they get enough credit for that. If it wasn't for the same people they're trying to push out of the air the concept wouldn't exist and nobody would care about that extremely low altitude airspace.
We made that. Not Amazon, not zipline. It was only once those pioneering FPV pilots got the attention of the world that big business except their sights on it and the drone gold rush started.

And it's just because I've found new ways to engage myself in the hobby, along with meeting new fantastic people in the community. I'm trying not to restrict myself to "one thing". So the way I see it going to IRL and online races, joining discord and listening to people, and even just watching videos. They all lead to transferable skills which are heavily important in the hobby.

    The F1 didn't come out until 2012.
People were flying FPV around on my multispawning highly modded FPS gunship server all the way back starting in 2008 up until 2014 when GameSpy login servers went offline. They called it FPV because it started on an FPS game server... that's why it's not called RC... because it did not start in the RC community. RC plane and helicopter guys call their hobby RC. We were in a totally different future... a dysutopian 2142 future... an Oblivion (the movie) future.

It was inevitable people would strap weapons onto them, because they started out with bombs, rockets, guided missles, and guns on them. In fact, I was the first to add bombs to them, because the stock game had no bombs off the air transports... they had flares... which I switched up and gerryrigged into bombs instead by modding the code. Whole lot of bounce, they were a blast.
By 2015 when you got into it FPV quadcopters were already pretty well established, and drones certainly were. RC drones have been around since the 1950's... and NASA was strapping cameras on their payload rockets, lunar landers, and moon buggies back in the 1960's Apollo program.

I tried doing this, not even in FPV. I never got the damn thing to stop just flipping over.

Oh man, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane as I was along in the beginning! But man I gotta say I'm not on board with the editing style of the standing to bent over view and back..lol please no more of that.

great feed back, thanks. It just helps me have a bit more fun in the vid and sometimes break the scene up. youtube retention is something I am working on. I really want to get this channel pumping again and I guess its one of the tings that helps in this age of tic tok brain.

@@UAVfutures I don't blame you, I just really don't like it myself. Probably part of why I don't use TikTok lol. Either way I'd love to see you humming along again!
