  • In this video I give a full in depth review and tour on a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

    had a 1996, most comfortable car ever. tech in the car was way ahead of its time. 4.0 Aurora V8 would haul ass and the exhaust note is insane.

      Oldsmobiles definitely focused a lot on the user experience. Their thing was being classy, yet affordable. Unfortunately, they just kind of lost their way as the markets changed, and failed to find a brand identity that could survive.

    • @BrokebackBob
      @BrokebackBob 9 років тому +4

      You think that is a big car? Hardly. This was GMs attempt to match the unmatchable Chrysler LHS that came out in 1993. The Aurora was a terrific car once you got the head gasket replaced with a real one instead of squeeze on gel. A big car is the 1959 Cadillac. Stuff that into the UA-cam search box and brace yourself.

    • @DrVink86
      @DrVink86 6 років тому +5

      They don't have RTV gaskets from the factory, the headgasket problem is actually not the gaskets but the bolts. They used too fine of a thread for the aluminum and they end up tearing out of the block causing gasket failure. Repair it with coarse threaded studs. I've owned two Auroras (one was totaled by some jerkoff) over ten years I've never had one overheat. You just have to keep the coolant clean and the cooling system in order and you're fine.

    When i saw this car for the first time, it was on a magazine. I was 9 and I was living in Sao Paulo. Since that, Im still in love with this car, but only the first gen. Now im 32, Its incredible but las week I saw this car on the street for the first time in my life, here in Paraguay, Asuncion. I felt bad, because the car was in a bad shape, but for me still a beautiful car. My co driver doesn’t thought the same. Sorry for the bad English.

      I first saw a first gen Olds Aurora for the first time a few weeks ago at Giant Eagle! It was nice! Same color as the one in this video.

Ever since I learned how to drive I've wanted one! Great car, I'll never sell it! Maybe if I have the time/room/money someday, I'll buy myself a second generation as well.

    Absolutely stunning in every detail. The 32V V-8 was actually a tweaked Northstar which was a fantastic engine. GM hit it on every cylinder with this car. God I wish I could find a really nice one like this. The styling and ergonomics on the inside put the cars today to shame. It looks like it would drive like a dream and it does.

    One vehicle where GM completely nailed it out of the ballpark. Unfortunately GM knew Olds was on life support when they intro. the Aurora in 1995. Nowhere did the name, "Oldsmobile" appear on the exterior nor the rocket logo. New jewelry-esq Aurora emblem instead. One vehicle where I think the first generation was actually better than the second generation. I know the model lineup for Olds was headed in the right direction with Aurora, Intrigue and Alero. Bravada not so much being cookie cutter GMT360 for the most part. But the Oldsmobile brand was so tarnished at this point....shame. Miss Pontiac as well.

    I bought my Mom one a few years ago that looks identical. Really a great car. Smooth riding and driving, had good power, had every option you could want, and it looks really fantastic. Certainly as nice as any Cadillac. I especially loved how this dash was driver oriented, with a cockpit look and feel. And believe it or not, it got decent highway MPG(low to mid 20's). I think it still looks just as good today as it did then, probably more so. Probably one of GM's best offerings ever.

    This was the car I wanted when I was learning to drive. These cars we pretty well used at that point and were becoming very affordable. They were loaded with features, had a strong engine and pretty good looks too! Unfortunately the only ones being sold near me were in terrible condition. I ended up getting a Cadillac Seville. The big brother of the Aurora.

    We loved our1998 Aurora. However, there was a problem with the paint primer with some of them and ours was one of the Auroras with bad paint; it began coming off in big pieces. Taking the paint down to bare metal for the repaint was going to result in a $7500 paint job. We passed but, other than the paint, it was an awesome car.

    If you ask me, the Oldsmobile Aurora is destined to become a classic. Every classic car has a story behind it and the Olds Aurora definitely has that. When it was being tested, it’s unibody construction is so strong that it actually broke GM’s testing machine. It’s 4.0 litre V8 was also pretty dominant in the Indy Racing League. Even though I’m a Ford guy, I still have a soft spot for Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. The Oldsmobile Aurora also had a design that was pretty radical for the time. The Oldsmobile Aurora in my opinion is one of the best sedans of the 90’s. Oh and the 2001-2003 Auroras had a limited production run due to the Oldsmobile brand being phased out. It’s pretty sad, isn’t it?

    Many GM cars did ride on a specific structure (like the w-body, b-body, f-body), but the Aurora was different than many other GMs. It actually tried to be different. GM has now learned their lesson and give their brands individualized styling and they dont compete with each other anymore.

    I had one 1998, and 3 1999s. All with the sunroof and Autobahn package. These are FANTASITC cars. I also had a 1996 DeVille and a 2001 Eldorado ETC. The DeVille had over 250,000 miles on it when I sold it. NONE of these cars had a problem with the engine block threads for the head bolts pulling out. Why? Well I THINK it is because I did not run DexCool anti-freeze and I changed the Anit-Freeze every 50K miles. However, I will not tempt fate and ever buy a Northstar engine again. I figure my lucky streak is just about up on Northstar engines..

      +Scott Domi JUST BOUGHT A 1997 V8, 4 LITER. REAL GOOD POWER AND QUIET COMFORTABLE CAR. JUST WISH IT WOULD BE FOR REGULAR GAS. I HAVE TO FILL WITH PREMIUM GAS. ABOUT A 40 TO 60 CENT PER GALLON MORE THAN 87 OCTANE.

    If possible, could you find a 2nd gen Aurora to review? Would be great to have a video on both gens of this amazing car.

    Wow, My '00 Deville made it to 315k before it started having electrical issues. The engine was perfect, but there were too many electrical issues.
