  • Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! UA-cam's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the 1989 Buick Riviera. The first year of the slant-back body styling. In absolutely immaculate shape. I was contacted by a private owner of this car and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. This 30k mile beauty came with the unique and quite advanced CRT touch screen interface. Basically controls all functions of the vehicle as you would in a modern vehicle equipped with touch screens! This one also came with the vinyl roof delete, which a lot of people prefer. WELCOME to the most in depth '89 riviera video on youtube :D During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of UA-cam!

The Riviera and the Reatta weren't the only cars with the CRT touchscreen. GM had a later version of this touchscreen technology in the Oldsmobile Toronado Troféo which was more colored. The system was known as the Graphic Control Center (or GCC), sometimes referred to as the Electronic Control Center (or ECC) in the Buicks while the system in the Olds was known as the Visual Information Center (or VIC).

This car blended sport and luxury together and made it a true driver's car! It was not conservative looking like the Century, LeSabre and Park Avenue in the 2000's that looked like something old people would drive in the right hand lane at about 25 miles per hourona Sunday afternoon!

I was looking for a good review of an 88-93 Buick Riviera, and when i saw that this was a Saabkyle04 video i knew i couldn't go wrong.
This is a really cool car! And still very futuristic! I love the touch screen controls! That is really cool! And 27 mpg highway? That's better than a new car! Great review!

These cars are and were amazing for their day. Today's cars are just now starting to get touch screen controls. The attention to detail on the older cars is just amazing. Those seats are far more plush and comfortable than any new car. I actually drove one of these cars on a test drive last year. It was so amazing and smooth and it had over 260,000-miles and all original according to the 1-owner seller. I just wish that a car could be as comfortable as and neat as this Buick, but with air bags

I want one of these, I mean they’re comfortable, cheap, good looking, sorta classic design, but kinda modern. . . Durable engine, and dat touch screen, way ahead of its time, probably why many of them broke, but I still want one, they’re just hard to find

  • @mlubiarz

This was truly a beautiful car! I like this version better than that cigar shaped 1995-99 Riviera. It was a classic and ahead of its time as far as technology with the touch screen. About 10 or 12 years ago I saw a 1989 Riviera in mint condition for sale for $5.000! If I had the money at that time, I would have bought it in a heart beat!

Beautiful car....I knew about the crt screen in these cars when I was a pre teen....For those who don't know, the Buick Riviera, Buick Reatta and 89' -92 ' Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo' had CRT or VIC (visual information center) screens in them....

Awesome video. Back in 1992, as a kid, my mom and dad purchased a brand new 1992 Buick Riviera, midnight-blue with baby blue pinstripe and sunroof for $32,000 (1992 Dollars). My Dad still has the car, it's one of his prized possessions (being the original owner), I may make a video on it. It looks just as mint and well taken care of as the car in your video. Anyhow, back then, with a brand new Riviera, my parents were on top of the world.

In august 2012 i bought a 1989 Riviera, probably the only one in my country (Denmark),
imported to DK in 2006 from South Carolina, no rust, original paint, but has some dents and other age signs, the Riv has over 350000 km on the clock, considering this, it's impressive quality, the ride is awesome; soft, smooth and quiet...
If anybody should get their hands on a car like this; Buy it!!
Wouldn't you rather have a Buick?

If a car company could build a car that is as smooth and comfortable as these older cars, but with all of today's safety things like ABS-which I know many cars of the 80's had, but with stability control, air-bags, back up assist, etc. I'd buy one. These older cars are so amazing and you have to love all the lights, trim, chrome, glass headlamps that never dull, simply easy to fix engines, easy to use controls, durable paint with clear coat that would last 20-years vs today's 6-years. Good video

This CRT was completely ripped the shreds by the likes of Car and Driver etc back in the 80's for being a huge distraction. But look at where we are today with touch screen navigation, audio, climate, phone, etc. with virtually zero knobs. Although at least we have guages visible in the instrument cluster vs the infotainment system. I'm a GM guy and use CUE but if you look across the board of GM's products, all the infotainment systems are laid out exactly as CUE is currently until Cadillac is doing a refresh mid 2017. I find CUE easy to use but in pre 2016 models it can be lagging when using an iPhone and going from song to song. Very easy to get used to however esp in 2107 with physical buttons for climate controls.

I had an 86 Riv, first year of that small bodystyle. It had a flat back instead of the slope. Never had a screen go out, thank goodness. The cool thing you could do with them is press and hold the off and warmer buttons in the climate screen and it would go into an engineering mode and let you see the raw data of the engine/trans sensors.
It came in handy when you wanted to know how fast you're going over 85, as the speedometer would just start flashing 85 at any speed 85 and over. Loved that car!

All these modern car companies boast about how they have huge 7" touch screens in their cars, well Buick beat them all to it back in the late 80's haha.
Thanks for the video, it's always really nice seeing what appears to be someone who cares for that car for what it is and is taking care of it.

Great car... '89-'93 Rivs are among my favorite cars. It's kinda weird though that the passenger seat has a power recline but the driver seat doesn't, you'd think it would be the other way around or both would have it... also, no power trunk pull down?? I thought these generation Rivs had it...?
