- I am testing some reloads for 8X57 Mauser with the PPU 124 grain FMJ bullets. This is the results using IMR 4064 as the powder. I had to piece together load data from discontinued bullets and older load data. I am using a German K98k Mauser for the testing. Hopefully, this will be the start of many more 8X57 reloading videos. Thanks for Watching.

For the past year I have taken a break from collecting and target shooting. After seeing you reload and shoot I am needing some much needed trigger therapy. Thank you for the awesome video!
Thank you. I really appreciate your comments. I am glad that you are getting back into it. 👍👍
KFW. Good video. Looks like you are pretty much set with you load. Nice shooting. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thanks. It was an easy shooting load with minimal recoil. Take care.
Not bad for such a light bullet and cold bore first shot. 🇺🇸
Thanks. Yeah, through out the first shot and the other four were pretty close. It's easier on the shoulder with those light bullets.
Good stuff
150's are lightest. I like 170rn and 175 Sierras best
Now I have a 240g Cast bullet to try too!
Thanks. I am just getting started and playing around with different stuff. I will have to get some 175gr Sierras and give them a spin.
Nice looking Mauser. My oldest son bought a Mauser that I think has been rechambered for .308. I need to do a chamber casting to see. That group is minute of deer all day long.
Thanks. I really enjoy shooting the older guns and that Mauser is a good shooter. There were some re-chambered to 7.62 Nato and it is usually marked on the receiver or barrel shank. Good luck with it. 👍
Great video KFW
Thank you. I appreciate it.
50g of 4064 is a 'Never Exceed' load for a 125g bullet according to Lee loading data
I used to load the old Hornady 125 grainers back in the 90s in reduced loads with IMR-4198. Fun for light recoil plinking, but would have to raise the rear sight up to 300m.
Those 124gr are really light shooting. Too bad Hornady quiet making the 125's. It saves the wear and tear on my shoulder. Thanks for the comment.
looks like will work just fine 😎🇺🇸
Yes sir. 👍👍
I just found your channel and appreciate your testing. I use an M48 for CMP Vintage matches. I have scored well with the PPU 139gr soft point and a modest load of 45gr of 4064 at 200 yards. I just loaded some of the PPU 124s and found that in my chamber I had to seat well above the top groove (grooves were below case neck) to keep from jamming into the lands. Have you experienced this in your rifle? Thanks.
I haven't had any problems. I trim to brass to speck with a Lee trimmer and it always fits in my Lyman case gauge fine. Some Yugo's have tighter chambers. I like the 139 and 124 grain, because they are very soft shooting. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.
I feel that the 8mm Mauser never got a fair shake in America. It has harvested every known animal in Northern Europe without a hitch, American made factory ammo is down loaded (I see why because many country's made copy's of the 98 in wartime with questionable quality) and that is reasonable, however, there are makes that have outstanding quality and I feel once those are checked out by a gunsmith, there isn't a reason why not to unleash the potential of the 8mm as a High power cartridge such as the 30-06. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos on the 8mm with heavier projectiles. Peace bro,, - Dave
Thanks brother. It is a versatile cartridge and you are right about getting a fair shake here. Hopefully, I can continue with this and make several more vids before the ADD kicks in.👍👍
Buy a lee reloading manual, 2023 revised edition. Full of mauser load data and many other lesser used cartridges
Thanks. I have a Lee but it’s several years old.
@kyfirearms the updated one has 6.5, 7.57, 8x57 (7.92x57) k31 7.5x55 and many many others still surplus wise
