I loved Hampton Court! I visited when staying with family in UK.. Very interesting video this one.. very pretty.. You poor boaties 🤗🤗 amazing mooring that one! 😍
Rich and Fran, I really enjoyed your latest adventure. It was great you made it through the lock that was closing! Fran looked so tired and I bet you were too Rich! Keep up the excellent videos.
That was so lucky, you did well to get through that lock before it closed. I was getting stressed just watching you cruising in the dark I would hate to do that myself and I’m so happy you both got moored safely. Thanks as always for sharing your journey especially when you clearly had other things on your mind!
Superb watch once again Rich and Fran, thnk u I chewed my nails down as u raced against the (c) lock, lol! Then laughed at poor Fran's ruddy complexion! Sorry! U two are so natural, its an absolute pleasure to journey with u, Huge Thnx, Davie xx
Jean & I really enjoy the progress you have both made and watching you both embrace canal life. Interesting how relaxed Rich you are now, from when it all began, and there will be the odd spill along the way to test you, but your both a true testament to leading your own journey towards a stress free, (well somewhat) life. all the best 🐳
Hi Fran and Rich. it's a pity that you were not filming after bolters as about a mile further on on the right was Ascot race track and on the other side of the river is a village called Eton Wick, and that's where I am from, I used to spend a lot of time on the river and the stream that joins there. We had a (boat) made of two aircraft drop tanks which someone had welded together with to short lengths of scaffolding pole. The tanks had holes which we could get into.ax capacity was four ,and we would go from the lock all the way to the stream further down that the college boys would practice on. And of course we didn't have " silly lifejackets" we didn't need them!!!!!! Sorry you got stressed, the river can get black at night. Anyway thanks for sharing and on to the next.
Well done both of you, can just imagine the moment when realisation sets in and you have to do a shed full of miles in one day....rather you than me! Hope your poor engine gets a nice rest after cranking it for 18 miles in one day! Lovely video again....great fun to watch.....🥤🥤
Sold everything to go sailing years ago -- so similar and yet so different from narrowboating.Make sure you use a metal filter in the engine compartment.
Well, who needs Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones or Ozark when we have you! We have binge watched you all day from episode 1, currently on episode 13. What a great couple you are, we love you guys. No house work done that was planned for today as we have both been watching you all day. Love the oil change Fran, although we did question your choice of shoes.. Hehe. Take care, we are looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. X
Hi Simon. Thanks for your wonderful comment. I can remember doing just that this time last year when we were waiting for the house to sell. Watching any canal related channel I could. Robbie Cummings being my fave. Thanks and keep watching. The housework can wait 😀 Rich.
Hi, we watched you all day Sunday too!! ;-) We are now up to date, we are both looking forward to all of your future vlogs. You really are a great couple. That was a very lucky escape with the bike, think I would be tempted to remove the traps!!!! Take care. Simon and Rachel
Hi Rich and Fran If you have time when on the Grand Union you may enjoy exploring the Wendover Arm to the winding hole, and then walk about a mile to see the restoration work in progress. Really enjoy your vlogs.
Hi Stephen - thanks for that. We've now decided that we will not be travelling any more than 3 - 5 miles per day and make sure we don't get 'stuck' again. This will give us the time to explore more places like the Wendover Arm and do the walking we so love. Thanks for watching - Rich
Hi Fran and Rich. Another great episode. Thank you. I’ve been to Windsor many times years ago but it looks so different from the water. Take care on the river.
Lovely video! It was so nice to see Windsor where I spent so much time in the 70s and 80s. Of course, I visited Hampton Court Palace on many occasions when I was in Windsor. Watching your beautiful video was like taking a trip down memory lane, it brought back so many sweet memories. Thank you so much!
I was getting all strung out with you :) I bet you loved your surprise in the morning.... All worth it. I remember looking out of those gates at the river when I last visited HCP.
Phewee !" tenser than a formula one race",found myself shouting at the screen,go on richie my son !" shame Fran did"nt catch one of those parrots then all that would be required is the wooden leg. Beautiful scenery, Autumn is short but sweet, enjoy. loved it"who needs Eastenders ?!.
followed your journey from the start, fantastic adventures, did the wey and Godalming canal back in the 90s on the Thames for a couple of days and moored up for the night right by the hampton court gates, brought back great memories . keep it up . cheers from the USA originally from Wales.
You didn't get roped in to a service then 😀 We visited Dornoch Cathedral when we were in Scotland and arrived just at the wrong time with a greeting of "large print or regular print hymn book?"! We ended up attending the full service! Of course there will be a video. 😀
sense of relief was very evident from the look on your faces, doesn't do any harm to raise the pulse rate occasionally but guess there are less stressful ways of doing it
Hi Martin, very relieved to say the least. Not that the Thames or K&A isn't worth staying on but we've got our hearts set on heading up north. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment - Rich
Im thinking of boxing our engine in to quiet it down a tad not sure how successful it will be but worth a try i think. Whats your plans for winter are you going to cc?
@@FloatingOurBoat were moored on the Cov 2 miles from the basin. Its a lovely little wharf. Mags and i both work so were kind of tied to a perm mporing with the occasional trip out.
HI you can recover lost data from cameras, just search for Camera data recovery software, there are free one's but I expect they come with adverts, thanks for another great video.
I'm sorry you had to dash down the Thames as that was my old stamping ground back t=in the late 90s. I moored in the same exact spot at Windsor, I bent my prop on a large lump of concrete that created a horrible shudder. Managed to fix by lifting the stern out with a forklift and hammer the dent out. It's rumoured that a tourist to Windsor asked why they built the castle on a flight path!!!!!!! WE often did night cruises up or down the Thames having to get back to Wraysbury after a festival or Dunkirk reunion and ready for work the next morning. Once we did Limehouse to Wraysbury no lock keepers and in those days you had to wind the hydraulics to operate the locks. It didn't help that I left my jacket at a one and didn't discover it until we had gone through two more. Had to got back through one and then run the tow path to retrieve it. Like you my brother and I were knackered when we finally moored up. I would have really enjoyed a much slower trip down and I know you would have, but understand you needed to get off before closure. I'm sup prised you paid so much for moorings have all the free 24hr ones gone? but then I knew all the free spots or moored on friends places. Look forward to seeing more slower pace Vlogs, thanks
Hi again GMV - unfortunately the guide books show moorings but not whether they free or not. We wanted to be in places like Windsor and so had to pay up not knowing if there were alternatives. Thanks again for watching -Rich
I have been really enjoying following your adventure! I've reached my mid-fifties and I've been thinking of taking this route for a while, mortgage nearly paid and want to escape the rat race. Are you able to cover your life style via airbnb holiday letting?
Hi Rob. We have had the property on Airbnb since July and so far has just about broken even. Things have slowed down now but expect it'll get busy in spring. Thanks for watching.
A good run like that will do the engine wonders, seeing that is your first "hard"run in her now is a good time to give it a thorough going over, checking all the fluids, grease, inspection filters, bolts and electrical connections etc, basically anything that can vibrate loose and the prolonged run will have burnt off any condensation in the systems and the heating up of the grease will have got it flowing pushing out air bubbles and getting in to more crevices etc. Since you both appear to suffer from "Passion Fingers "Syndrome l always found on the boat making up wrist Lanyards for gear you don't want to keep donating to Davy Jones Locker was the best bet,we do a lot of cooking on the outside BBQ on our boats and l even have them on my kitchen knives etc . You are heading into the cold and we have just had our first taste of the Wet Season /Monsoon with Temp's over 40 C and 70+ humidity for 3 days which is really early for that type of temps.I just spent 2 days in my plane helping the coppers search for a silly bugger missing in the outback, turned out heatstroke killed him while he was trying to do a offroad exploration/treck on his motorbike in our remote area and was hopelessly unprepared and ignored conditions like he was still back in his cushy city.So l am now way behind on jobs around the farm,l want to get done before the Wet Season hits so will be flat out for a while. We take our dogs most places in our boats for over 20 years now and with the threat of crocodiles we have to at times keep the dogs below decking when going through sketchy parts ,when we did the South Pacific sail the yacht had a really poorly sound insulated engine room and my old Blue Heeler would not settle when it was on, l fixed it by just buying extra sheets of sound insulation and making him a extra padded bed which helped cut the vibration and hull noise down for him,he was happy as Larry from then on a settled properly,l even chuck the bed in for him in our smaller Dive/fishing boats for extended trips,l really believe the vibration is most of the problem triggering their fight or flight mode when they are trying to sleep . Happy Cruis'n and give the dogs a pat from us.
Hi Daryl. Wow thanks for the tips we've given everything a good check over now. No crocs in the canal thank god. We were in the Hunter Valley couple of years ago in temps pushing 40 - can't imagine having to work in it though. Anyway thanks again for watching and your lovely comments. Fran xx
Curious what the small building may be at approximately minute 15.10. It looks like Monticello style designed by Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, VA. Great video as always. Sorry trip was stressful for.
£30 on Moorings? Must be Mooring in the wrong place. Henley and Windsor or always charged. Other places you can moor on EA mooring for 24 hours free. Even at Runnymede just past that park you were on about is free for 24 hours. Great video as always, just a shame the Thames was so rushed
Thanks Colin. When you have only a short window to be on the river and want to be in places like Cookham and Windsor then there does'n't seem to be any alternative but to pay. Thanks again for watching - Rich
