    Hi Both lovely vid, you will be surprised how a small bit of crap on your prop can effect your engine performance if the area around the blade is reduced then that will reduce the force behind it

    Hello you two. You always seem to be up to something interesting. That Thames trip is on our wish list. By the way, you can use any natural soap for shampoo, it's exactly the same thing. They might use a combination of oils which create less suds, as it will create more lather in your hair anyway. Back to vinyl ;) It's heavy stuff. Hope the holiday house is going well. Danny & Tasim xx (Soapboatsoap)

    • @FloatingOurBoat
      @FloatingOurBoat  6 років тому

      Hi Danny and Tasim. thanks for the comments. We loved the Thames but much prefer canal life. Your soap was wonderful. Are you saying I can just use normal natural bar soap as shampoo? Ill give it a go. The house is going well at the moment, lets hope it continues
      fran xx

    • @tasim1
      @tasim1 6 років тому

      Great house news ;)Yes any natural soap should work fine. If you take a look at the ingredients, they should be about the same. A combination of oils which have gone through a process which changes them to sodium or potassium salts. So olive oil becomes sodium olivate.

    Rich don,t forget that going downstream on the Thames[ or the Isis as it is known above Henley] that you will have a
    1/2 [half] knot current with you,also the width of the Isis gives a different impression of speed compared to the canal,ALSO a new prop is 300£, plus docking and vat etc .enjoy your SWEETIES.

    You guys are so much fun to watch! Keep on the sustainability game. No experience with narrowboats, but experience with sailboats and fishing boats: Sounds like your prop hasn't got the right pitch for your engine/gearbox combination. If the engine revs freely but you do not get appropriate speed you might want to increase the pitch. Keep on truckin'!

  • @vernhill5767
    @vernhill5767 6 років тому

    Hi Guys, Love following your exploits, keep up the good work. A bit of info about propping (or changing props). Changing prop by 2" in pitch (one size) up or down will alter rpm by 2-400. Thats a rule of thumb but after 25 years+ in the industry I haven't seen an exception. Usually a much cheaper alternative than a ratio change unless you need a big step, which you don't. Don't fall into the trap of trying to use prop or ratio to bring your rpm back to nothing. The ratio/pitch is also there to accelerate or stop and control the maximum torque loading. So not wanting to overload you with science, I suggest you talk to a prop specialist who will be able to help you but he may want to know your existing prop's pitch. Can't wait for the next installment!
    Cheers, Jayne & Vern N.Z.

    I spent years trying to photgraph kingfishers, with little success. and you spot one while cruising. I am really envious. Plus the hawk at the beginning. What kind was it? When I was last in the UK all one saw were kestrels and a sparrow hawk if you were lucky. Now "sort of Imteresting"has red kites circling him and goodness knows what lining the river/canal. Great shots:)

    • @FloatingOurBoat
      @FloatingOurBoat  6 років тому

      Hi Paul, it was a Red Kite, I love Kingfishers and we happened to be somewhere they were in abundance but difficult to capture. This one stayed still long enough but i cropped the footage in the editing to zoom in. Rich.

    Gotta have your sweets mate, did you find a proper shop with all the jars, God there's not many about now. I took my daughter in one of the last ones inthe boro about 30 yes back and she couldn't believe it lol I heard it finally closed a few years back, so sad. I think you need to get the gearbox and prop checked out to be honest

    Grease the ster gland check gearbox oil, or other alternative get a bigger pitch prop or a higher ratio gearbox.
    Note to self when using your Bluetooth speaker you may max out the volume on the speaker & think thats not good, while its playing music via a device mobile or iPad ect turn the volume up on that device but as well.

    We also found it hellishly slow turning off from the thames....its science that slows you down apparently...our boat is similar to your in struggling with speed we have a 35hp isuzu and a baby prm120 gearbox which means 3 mph tops!!! And cruise at 1200 rpm. Can go above that as the throttle drops bk on me.....perhaps a governer....god know. Great vid as ever rich and fran 👍 matt and jo

      Hi Matt an Jo, guess will have to live with the prop speed etc, by the way done Woolhampton bridge and lock - cranked it and flew in the lock, had to do real sharp reverse in lock, all in a fun days cruising.

    Natural bar soap is how shampoo used to come. Here in the states we have a large number of natural bar soap makers. Seems to be much better for my hair. The suds can make a shower a bit slick. Be aware. When done, set the bar so it will dry out good, so it will last longer. You can stock up and as the bars dry over time, they tend to last longer. You are less likely to have allergic reactions to natural products like goat's milk soaps.

    The scenery you managed to capture on the Thames was amazing. Another great video both of you. A question if I may - How much fuel have you spent since you have taken on the boat and also to get into perspective the amount of fuel used and cost what are your estimates for the mouth of the Kent and Avon to Bristol in monetary terms? Appreciate that if it is not being too nosy. Keep the videos going x

    Now the big question -- are the Sports mix the Maynards ones or the Lyons ones. If my memory serves me right the black ones are liquorice in the Lyons (far superior) but blackberry in the more common Maynards. Sorry if I have spelling wrong - this is from my memory of the 1970's when I lived in the UK. :)

    Hey Fran, why was Richie sitting behind you on the sofa, and he's been embalmed !!!!!!
    The table could double as a coracle for those fishing trips, could the boat sluggishness be due to your going uphill?
    There should be a difference now you've cleared the prop, do you check your gearbox oil levels
