G'day. I stumbled on the Bald Explorer by accident. Been watching for a month now and catching up with Richards Vlogs. He is a brilliant presenter of the South Downs of the UK.
After watching 107/171, i cant think why i keep thinking of 'Richard and Hyacinth' Bucket.. LOL watch the bridge Rrrichard.. Yes dear i'm watching the bridge.. Look over there Richard.. watch the road dear... Maybe it's just my sense of humour, but i do see it at times. Glad to see you cruising so easy and relaxed.
Nice to see the farmer has left a gap in the crop for the footpath...many just ploughing them up and leave no way apart from having to walk around the edge.....

It's funny how there is so much crossover on UA-cam. I found Richard Vobes when I was investigating the Shrewsbury & Newport canal. From that I started watching his other videos. An old friend in Tonbridge mentioned that the Medway had canal boats on it. So a quick check of UA-cam and it turns out Richard had done a video exploring Tonbridge too. What was a real coincidence was that same school friend walked into frame as he was filming Tonbridge castle. It really is a small world.

Yes I was looking at a hybrid too. I sail and couldn't stand the noise of a full time desil. They put the generator up the front don't they? Can you save much fuel by fitting solar panels to the roof?

Hi Tony. Thank you for your comment. You are certainly allowed to fish in the canal, but you do need a licence. Fishing is purely for sport though as the canal water us not clean enough to eat any fish. Glad you enjoy ed the video.

What...y'all aren't going to do what Foxes Afloat did in chronicling their boat build - just kidding. About Foxes Afloat, did y'all see their 'boat building' announcement? The 'project' appears to be a BIG do filled with the latest greatest technology, etc. It'll interesting to compare what 'they' come up with in comparison to my design; about which, I can't execute until this 'dang' pandemic gets resolved. Anyhoo and all that, I followed Mr. Vobes narrowboat adventure, if I recall correctly, on the K&A canal - great fun it was. Will y'all be able to cross over the Wales border to the end of the Llangollen - sure hope so. Looking forward to the first 'boat build' video update. Good luck for sure! As a former systems analyst, before I started to even think about any narrowboat design, I watched [still do] about every narrowboater vlog on YT to observe as much as I could. I have extensive boating experience - both sail and engine. I have a marine engineer friend who keeps abreast of the latest greatest technologies for both navigation and propulsion. I know with the right 'components' a narrowboat - widebeam included - can be made to handle with both fun and, above all, SAFETY in mind in any situation with the least amount of environmental impact. However, budget dictates. There're times when I've thought Amazon Prime has more money then brains - it'll be interesting to see what design emerges. GLAD to read y'all will get to cross both aqueduct's in Wales. From what I've watched, the Llangollen is in my top five canal(s) list. Take care - be well - many blessings.

Great how all these vlogs I watch all hook up. I feel a little out of things out here in the US, although I’m living in a beautiful area in Tahoe area of the Sierras. Guess I’m getting increasingly nostalgic, this last year or so, and currently can’t even travel back to visit family currently. Thanks for all you share. It’s keeping me sane and fulfilling my need for all I grew up around back in the UK.
I ended up in Western Australia, originally from Hertfordshire. I was describing public footpaths and canals to an Australian during the week. They can't grasp what I am on about. Makes me even more homesick!

I think now you know you want to cruise long term it had to be done. I saw that the Foxes are doing a new build video and seem to be including cutting edge tech and engineering but to be honest I’m more about simplicity. My perfect boat would be portholes, log burners with back boilers and even oil lamps! Obviously I would need the Internet, that does without saying 😁. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.

What...y'all aren't going to do what Foxes Afloat did in chronicling their boat build - just kidding. About Foxes Afloat, did y'all see their 'boat building' announcement? The 'project' appears to be a BIG do filled with the latest greatest technology, etc. It'll interesting to compare what 'they' come up with in comparison to my design; about which, I can't execute until this 'dang' pandemic gets resolved. Anyhoo and all that, I followed Mr. Vobes narrowboat adventure, if I recall correctly, on the K&A canal - great fun it was. Will y'all be able to cross over the Wales border to the end of the Llangollen - sure hope so. Looking forward to the first 'boat build' video update. Good luck for sure! Hi Ross. I think it simple down to earth boat will be the complete opposite to the Foxes project boat, it will be interesting too watch. We hope to cross over into Wales very shortly.
@@FloatingOurBoat AGREED. I also think budget will dictate a lot - there was no mention of budget in the announcement. As a former systems analyst, before I started to even think about any narrowboat design, I watched [still do] about every narrowboater vlog on YT to observe as much as I could. I have extensive boating experience - both sail and engine. I have a marine engineer friend who keeps abreast of the latest greatest technologies for both navigation and propulsion. I know with the right 'components' a narrowboat - widebeam included - can be made to handle with both fun and, above all, SAFETY in mind in any situation with the least amount of environmental impact. However, budget dictates. There're times when I've thought Amazon Prime has more money then brains - it'll be interesting to see what design emerges. GLAD to read y'all will get to cross both aqueduct's in Wales. From what I've watched, the Llangollen is in my top five canal(s) list. Take care - be well - many blessings.

Great how all these vlogs I watch all hook up. I feel a little out of things out here in the US, although I’m living in a beautiful area in Tahoe area of the Sierras. Guess I’m getting increasingly nostalgic, this last year or so, and currently can’t even travel back to visit family currently. Thanks for all you share. It’s keeping me sane and fulfilling my need for all I grew up around back in the UK.

Wow, that video was packed full of interesting content. I loved Fran’s yellow top, very summery. Looking forward to hearing more about the new boat. I think now you know you want to cruise long term it had to be done. I saw that the Foxes are doing a new build video and seem to be including cutting edge tech and engineering but to be honest I’m more about simplicity. My perfect boat would be portholes, log burners with back boilers and even oil lamps! Obviously I would need the Internet, that does without saying 😁. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.
Hi Sylvia. You're right, our boat and the Fixes project are going to be complete opposites I think. We care definitely going simple and straightforward. The less we have to rely on technology the less there is to go wrong. It will be interesting to be watch

You can get black pudding in USA its called Blood Sausage its expensive $5 for a sausage about the size of an English Banger.
Good black pudding is also quite expensive here and the vegan version even more expensive!
Im scottish decent, so black pudding, is delish, but white pudding(irish version) tastes even better ,if you havent tried it,you should, though not sure what its made of .Anyway look forward to your vlogs, intresting,entertaining and a great couple to boot
