To be honest, as much as we might understand and respect your need for change and for things to be in their right place, we're here for the incredible interviews and conversations, and not what's in the background. You could conduct your content anywhere in the world and we'll still be here to watch and enjoy. Thank you Rick!

I love how he obsesses over this. It makes sense too. His videos always have a particular and curiously inviting warmth from the lighting and how the atmosphere is part of the conversation or the message. I do look around when watching his videos while absorbing what is being said. The space, the room, is part of the lens.
It has always been clear to me that you have a team behind you making your content. I’m proud of you for finally pulling back the curtain and revealing the people that make your channel work.
There are far too many channels with creator/wankers that refuse to acknowledge that they are just the front facing jabber with a knowledgeable team behind them making it all work.

My wife is an Interior Designer and was sitting next to me while I watched this video. Every time you spoke about “balance”, “negative space”, and “flow”, she kept affirming everything you said. You’re absolutely on point Rick! 👍

This was the coolest tour of someone's mind that I've ever taken. It all makes perfect sense.
So much of this video reminds me of my brother and his studio. Rick needs to hang out with Mario C in LA, two music producers who could nerd out on making their work space beautiful and functional.
For what it's worth Rick, the quality of your videos has increased dramatically over the years.
I occasionally kinda miss the old white board theory lessons to be honest. It’s nice I can always go back and get my fix when necessary.

It’s been clear since I first started watching this channel that Rick pays attention to details. He can’t tune out the details, so controlling the flow of the space eliminates distracting details. It makes perfect sense.
Your channel is great Rick. Please bring back "What makes this song great". Your interviews are terrific and so revealing. Changes are good for the soul, keep up the great videos!

When the OCD rubs up against the rest of Rick’s neurosis, it can make for a tough day. It’s why some people drink or eat benzodiazepines like chiclets. But those are just short term fixes that bring their own long term pain. Just letting it go and roll with it is usually the best option.

Hey Rick. Great vid. Totally with you, here. I've been a lighting camera op for 30 years and EVERYTHING you say here makes sense. With composition, the devil is in the tiniest detail.

You're already so far ahead of the pack by having AN ACTUAL STUDIO to shoot in instead of green screen like most other youtubers. The fact that it's an absolutely beautiful studio is just icing on the cake!
I hate to admit it but on watching his earlier videos I'd thought the background just looked way too good to be real, so much so I thought it was green screen! :D
He would be driven up the wall by a typical home studio like Steve Perry's. He did a zoom shout out to his fans a few years ago and the dangling clusters of wires, beanie babies, Christmas lights, and tots under foot made it clear why his output has been small in recent years.
What John had to say about the similarities of practice between different pursuits absolutely blew my mind!! Thank you for that!

Rick, if you ever need some space to store some of that equipment, I may be a little far away (Canada) but... me casa, su casa. 🙂 I'll even make sure it all gets tested regularly to ensure all is in working order when you need it!
Rick, I do all of this everyday as Creative Director at a marketing agency. You've got the right idea! We deal with print, digital, and video. Composition and storytelling is everything.
I somehow find this video simultaneously inspiring and comforting. And I have no idea why!

Maybe I'm alone in this, but good heavens, I always thought the amp wall and all the other details that you get all worked up about looked like a intimate musician's paradise; a man cave that makes any musician feel at home immediately. And man, the interviews show just that, don't they? I tink if a genuine Sicilian saw this video, he'd reply: "Fa lache." Something like: "Let it be." You're doing a fantastic job and it has everything to do with you yourself and the love for music you bring to the table. You make the ambiance and that's why people love you. Alora, fa lache!

By editing, and arriving at the beautiful color , scale, and harmony =balance in this space, you substantially amplified its positive vibrations, acceleratedI the frequency and ultimately "kaboomed" the productive energy in your room--a joy to be there, which emanates and connects to us...why we keep returning to you and your channel!

Whew. What a relief. I thought you were gonna tell us you took a job at Rolling Stone. That rag. Balancing your set/studio? Have at it to your heart's content! Achieveing balance in all areas of life is pretty damm essential.
I like your changes. Relieved that you were talking about fixing things that annoy you, making your studio fit your needs as they evolve, and not about content changes! From my perspective, the background in your shots is a minor but noticeable part of the videos. Your studio always looks like a fine music store with a homey touch, a place I would love to at least visit a lot if I couldn't live there.

Yes as a quilter and retired photographer that has OCD, balance is a calming need. I understand everything you are saying. Perfect and you’re never crazy.
I suspect any number of music-loving studio designers would compete for the chance to set Rick up. Rick: keep your talent on the tunes and analysis and give someone the gift of helping you make your videos look fabulous!!
Tempo is another important aspect of audio and video. I really like the almost "punk rock" energy in this video. Also MORE RECORDINGS!!!!!!! I'm excited.

I liked hearing about what goes into set design. It explores what makes your show visibly appealing to the audience but also what makes you comfortable and effective in that space which comes through to us as you perform your art in your appealing style.Taking these principles to the live performance space and stage would probably help many bands in similar ways. This episode is just another example of the many facets of music production and performance that we need to know. Thanks, Rick.

"....creative constructs across different disciplines...." says it all. Imo the warm lighting in your "set" is a Beato signature look. You guys do a very nice job keeping fairly busy backgrounds from looking that way through, lighting, aperture, and subject placement. There is an art to shooting video and kudos to you for being aware of it's importance. Great stuff Rick!

Something I have been missing in all of your great an long interviews. Is a table with a bottle of water, a cup of coffee or maybe a cold beer. On behalf of your great guests, I have been so dry in my mouth hearing them speak away about great times and good music.
