You can tell Uncle Roger likes the chef if he spends his time criticizing the clothes, environment, etc instead of the cooking. When Ikeda-Sensei got curious about a certain taste in kombu dashi and isolated glutamic acid as responsible, as I’ve mentioned before, it set into motion a chain of discoveries that is still ongoing but one of his students discovered another substance in bonito flakes that was found to enhance the flavor impact of glutamate. The quest for perfect umami was implicit in Japanese tastes long before it was scientifically studied.
Nice reaction from you, thanks a lot! Oh yes. After this reaction, Uncle Roger met Chef Wan, 🇲🇾 Malaysia's celebrity chef who is also popular in the world. And guess what? Chef Wan roasted Uncle Roger with funny quotes 🤣
FYI, Sambal Belacan is Malaysian Chili Paste which consist sugar, salt, onion, garlic, chili and shrimp paste (important ingredient). Without shrimp paste, it won't be Sambal Belacan. I love Sambal Belacan 👍👍👍 We called Shrimp Paste in Malaysia as Belacan
Malaysia was colonised by UK for close to 200 years, we technically speak British English, but as multicultural country, we tend to mix and match other languages into the English, which became Manglish Uncle Roger way of speaking is typical Chinese uncles and aunties in Malaysia, ala Manglish (Malaysian English) P/S: Roger, Robert, Albert, Raymond are typical English names of Malaysian Chinese Uncles during the 60's, so I guess he poke fun on this name Malaysian here btw, I can relate alot to his jokes, except those adults humor, haha!

You probably didn't get uncle Roger's drop the soap joke. Its a prison myth saying that if you drop your soap in the male shower a guy gonna come behind you and ..... you figure out the rest.
u felt Sherson accent sounds like British, its due to all us Malaysian english education is based on UK education (as Malaysia was British colony before independence), so yea, our pronunciation is UK version instead of US version. e.g. we pronounce "can" as "ken" and "can't" as "cunt", while US "can" --> "ken", "can't" --> "kent", colour, instead of color, flavour, instead of flavor, etc.. n so on.. while uncle roger act to talk like local uncle so less formal to match his role play, which let u feel local/Malaysia. 🙂
Peach you are so poised. You hold your head high and shoulders back and have cute Japanese mannerisms & smile in your eyes.
