They are coming back to the US in August as part of their 10th Anniversary tour. Not only are they amazing live they also take a couple of breaks during the show where they just interact with the audience. They are hilarious on stage and have a lot of fun with the crowd. It's something that just has to be seen, you can't really explain it but it's a lot of fun. They are the best live band today and their musicianship is on par with the legends of rock and metal.

At -2:36 MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 3:26 MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond - skills! AT 4:04 Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 5:07 A brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond. 🤘🤘 PS Kanami is the poster girl for PRS and they give her lots of guitars. Miku has the same deal with Zemaitis and they even sell a signature model of hers called the Flappy Pigeon. Akane has a deal with Tama drums and MISA with some other company. I think even Saiki has a deal with Sennhauser or some mic company. Very wise companies to do this! Kanami, lead guitar, is the main songwriter, though everyone suggests and adjusts for their own bass, drums or rhythm. Miku the rhythm guitarist and band founder writes most of their lyrics - and they're more full of meaning than most. Loving your dive into Japan's treasure chest of jewels.

As I just wrote under your Hanabie video, the fun just doesn't stop or get less. :) And Band-Maid leads that journey for me personally. Not only were they the first band, but for me, they are the most consistent and interesting band of all I've discovered since. Music has always been perhaps the most important companion in my life, but thanks to them that feeling has multiplied. I love their sound and creativity and admire them for their human side. As you said, they are an inspiration, even for me as a non-musician. I owe more to these ladies and their music than I could ever express or repay. 🙏🏻✨

I've always found that Saiki's tone coming off of the breakdown in "Domination" is super seductive. Like, you've just landed after falling off a cliff and yet her voice is drawing you back to your feet and into the palm of her hand. The woman's a siren and may in fact be the death of me.

Kanami (lead guitarist) writes their music. Miku (rhythm guitarist, back-up vocalist) writes the lyrics. Akane on drums, Misa on bass. Saiki is the vocalist. In Boston, I was 2 feet away from Misa! In Detroit i was in front of Kanami. I even got a Kanami concert pick! I have never had more fun at a concert. I actually cried from happiness! The lyrics for this song are written by Miku.
So, Saiki's performance is an interpretation. She takes Miku's words and makes the song her own. And she does a brilliant job. As she does with many other Band Maid songs. (Watch "Puzzle " acoustic or "Anemone").
I have so much admiration for Miku.
She created the band, then, fired herself from the position of lead singer....and found Saiki.
She then learned to play guitar... and now is the only member of the band to play and sing during live shows. Also, she doesn't take a break when they perform live.
    She is extraordinary.

I know this is going to sound unlikely, but as much as you appear to already like this band, that feeling will just keep increasing exponentially the longer they are part of your life. They will become a daily necessity. You'll find yourself wanting to travel great distances to see them play. You'll feel yourself becoming more and more of our maidiac community. They quite literally make your whole life better. Hyperbole, you say? Just. You. Wait.

Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed.
And as I have said many times, Band-Maid music makes my ears happy.
Interesting history, when the band started Miku could NOT play guitar. The record company thought they needed at least one other person to have a guitar to round out the "Look". Saiki said "NOPE!, I'm just a singer" so Miku took up the guitar, and went out and bought a Rickenbacker 620, because it was "Black and White" to match their outfits. FOr about 4 months, that is ALL Miku did was HOLD/WEAR the guitar as a decoration, until Akane said "IF you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it" So Miku said, OK, and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. However, their sound NEEDED to have that second guitar, but Miku's skill wasn't there, so MISA was asked to fill in the sound with her bass. And that was the beginning of what many of us call the "Band-Maid Sound" with MISA's intricate playing, oftentimes playing a lead line, while Miku many times takes up where the bass guitar would normally be, tied in to the drums. It has given Band-Maid such a unique sound that it has become easily identifiable. ONLY Band-Maid sounds like that, a few other bands come close, like Gacharic Spin, but no others really come too close to the Band-Maid Wall of Sound.

As for the Rickenbacker 620, while it matches their outfit, I suspect that Miku may have listened to "Marunouchi Sadistic" (whose lyrics mention it) by Ringo Sheena, whom Miku admires, or seen it in Sheena's music video for "Gips" (2000) (very impressive MV, still gives me goosebumps), or seen it at her live show. Sheena's 620 is even the same color. I think it's an unusual color.
      "Gips" - ua-cam.com/video/zldBTSx9JpE/v-deo.html
I even suspect that Miku's love at first sight for Zemaitis which she said was one of the reasons she took guitar playing so seriously, (or/and maybe the pick scrape that Miku occasionally plays) has something to do with Tokyo Incidents' "Gunjō Biyori" [Ideal Days for Ultramarine] MV (2004). Sheena played a silver-colored Duesenberg V there. Miku even said that BAND-MAID would not have existed if she had not met "Gunjō Biyori". She added that it would have been something like "Enka-Maid" (which if you ask me, haha.)

I think they care coming back for another U.S. tour soon. The songwriting of Bandmaid is top notch. They keep the songs interesting by adding extra details. They usually make their second verse a little different than the first verse in most songs. Miku, the rhythm guitarist/sub vocalist, usually is the one who writes the lyrics. She is also the founder of the band. The music writing is a group effort but Konami, usually writes the majority of the music and the other members will contribute their input. Any song you listen to by them is gonna be good… so I don’t have any suggestions…maybe Puzzle live is one I would recommend.

Lyrics predominantly by Miku ( me koo) who sings second vocals and rhytm, with help from Saiki (sigh key) the lead vocalist 9:00 are always deeper than you think. Main composition of the songs are by Kanami (kah nah mee) who leaves room for Misa (me sah) and Akane (ah kah na) on drums to compose their parts. Another group you should definitely consider to check out is Scandal. I can give you some recommendations for the songs and links for their songs

Great reaction really enjoying your journey through the Japanese music world. I fell down the foxhole 7 years ago and then down so many others. Couple of things Miku the rhythm guitarist does most of the lyrics. Band Maid just always makes you smile. Also caught the comment at the start of the reaction mentioning Atarashi Gakko dancing. They are not metal but as a metal fan I love that group. Try Otona Blue on the 1st Take. They have exploded in Japan. Also time for Nemophila seriously. Do Revive live and stay away from Night Flight as it is not indicative of their sound, though a fun song.

Bandmaid has plenty of kickass instrumentals as well. Try "Onset" (live) and "From Now On" for a start.
Also, Miku (rhythm guitarist) is the one who usually writes the lyrics.

The lead guitarist (Kanami) writes most of the music. The rhythm guitarist / background singer (Miku) writes most of the lyrics. She started the band, came up with the maid theme, and originally was planning to be lead singer. Then realized they needed a better lead singer, and they added Saiki.

The very 2 videos that made me a maidiac! LOVE their performances in both of these and even though I've had both of these on constant repeat over the past few weeks, I'm still not even remotely sick of them! Oh and the 3rd song that became in instant favourite in those first few days of my addiction is the wonderful stark contrast of the stripped down to a trio, acoustic rendition of Sayonakidori showcasing Miku's beautiful voice: ua-cam.com/video/sGzAQigaL14/v-deo.html

Yeah, they are remarkable in so many aspects. And you’ve barely scratched the surface. They have all progressed considerably skill wise and compositionally since these songs were written and performed. You saw a bit of that with “No God” but there is so much more to hear. And, yet, their earlier, more straightforward, works are standing the test of time and still resonate to this day!
    Next? Some more classics:
    - “Blooming” - official MV
    - “Dice” - official MV
    - “Onset” - official live video
    - “Play” - official live video
    Then newer songs:
    - “Influencer” - official MV
    - “From Now On” - official MV
    - “Unleash!!!!!” - official MV
    - “Sayonkadori” - official live & official live acoustic
    - “Manners” - official MV
    - “Manners / Black Hole” - official live video
And recent performance of old classic
    - “Puzzle” - official live video
Take care and rock on! 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼😀✌🏼

FYI, Saiki (lead singer) does not write the lyrics. Miku, the rhythm guitarist, writes the

Saiki has in the past written lyrics, after recording for Unseen World, she started writing lyrics which is how we got Corrallium. She and Miku now will each write lyrics and the whole band will choose together whose lyrics get used on a song. Which gives us Hate?. They both worked together for the lyrics for Unleash!!!!! And while checking I found that Saiki also helped with the lyrics for Alone, Don't you tell ME, Daydreaming, Take me higher, Matchless Gum, Decided by myself, and Yuragu.

Saiki doesn't write. Miku, the backing vocalist and rhythm guitarist, is also the lyricist. The music is composed by lead guitarist, Kanami. The dummer's name is Akane, not Aneki. But don't worry. You'll get it eventually. It can take a while. But There's a series of White Room Tutorials on how to play their songs. There's 5 Videos per Song, one for each instrument, and one of them playing the song all together. It's a great way to learn them if you want to make a cover video.

You are correct. What I meant to say is Miku is the lyricist and writes the bulk of the lyrics. She does however take Saiki's advice on whether a lyric is cool enough or not. So she does have input on what she will be singing.
